Vasil
GTAIV has 10x bigger map and over 250 000 more models ingame. You do know the game doesn't render it all at once, right? Actually it does, but in low poly mode and to hide it they blur it out and use fog. Which is highly eliminated in the PC version due to higher memory. I work as a game developer and have high knowledge about this engine ...
Rickzu
Actually it does, but in low poly mode and to hide it they blur it out and use fog. Which is highly eliminated in the PC version due to higher memory. I work as a game developer and have high knowledge about this engine I highly doubt your knowledge of the subject at hand. The engine renders a small area around the player (couple of blocks i think?), buffers it a bit more, but it most certainly does not render the entire map at once. Even the buffered area is usually nothing except the basic map mesh with LOD textures. It would be incredibly stupid to make the game render an area the player cannot even see. Also, unless you work for Rockstar, you won't have high knowledge of a closed-source engine.
GTAMonkey2012
Just got a login to finally post here. I have AMD X2 6000+ 3 GHZ, 2 GIG ram, GTX260 OC (216) 896MB, 800FSB mobo, Xfi Extreme Gamer Soundcard, 19" Widsescreen 1440x900 native. After reading a lot of posts, this review, running the online tests it seems that I will be able to run everything on high at 1280x1024 .. somewhere between the medium and high spec on this list, high is based on a res much higher than I run games anyway, only 1280x1024 is what I stick too. Also remember when taking things literally with these reviews that basically you can squeeze more out by lesser AA lowering draw distance and also don't forget any patches that may come, running as -DX9 under vista, using Rivatuner to overclock etc. So for me im happy that I will rung it posher than console (and that looked pretty impressive to me coming from San Andreas lets face it). The main things are AA, draw distance, and traffic density ... if your anal and are a material "must have" person than complain away, but I bet once this arrives and the dust settles after a month or so, and modders get into the configs (we haven't even begun to open the lid on it in the configs .. the main reason PC rules!!) things wont "seem" as awful as some try to paint here. Get the game, get it running the best you can, tweak your card, update drivers, OC if you can, hang in for more details on the configs to tweak, I bet theres more flags and config tweaks that can be done within just the stock sliders in-game. I would have thought gamers might have learned by now, or they are bored waiting and posting for hell of it (not all posters) to stop shooting at the hip so soon, every damn game that comes out has this wobbly period before it irons itself out. Some people have this game down as some nasty moster ready to burn you alive as soon as you install it. I cant wait for the barrage of complaint posts and 80 percebnt will be non configred PC's and older kit ... the usual crap that comes on game release. ROFL2008
Remember that the Magazine became NOT the final version of the game. It was an beta version and they tested it 1 or 2 months ago! Edited November 26, 2008 by ROFL2008
CharmingCharlie
WTF? You can post scans if you want. What you have to do is thumbnail them or resize so they don't page stretch. Just a litle FYI posting scans on this forum is heavily discouraged for the forums protection. Whilst we all love GTA and GTAforums none of the staff on these boards wants to end up in court fighting a copy protection lawsuit. The posting of scans leaves the board open to being sued for copyright infringement hence the reason why all scans and links to scans are removed the minute a moderator or ledby see's them. It has NOTHING to do with them stretching the page and everything to do with not wanting to have our arse sued. Now with that in mind please stop asking the TC for scans, he is happy to answer any questions you may have about the review but he is abiding by the rules and not posting scans on this board. Its stated that they didn't play the final build and maybe the delay is because they are further optimizing the engine (I hope so anyway) 2. Your a troll (and WTF is a quaddick, you obviously have a major freaky photoshoped porn fetish) 3. Yes, Rockstar utterly screwed the last PC release the did (Bully - Major Bugs and still no Patch, unplayable on roughly 1 in 4 PC's that meet the specs, mainly due to Audio Code) - However we still haven't seen the final build. P.S. Call of Duty - World at War has the same audio bug as Bully in XP and haven't patched it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same bug is in GTA4. I'm starting to think the bug is in the September DirectX SDK.

The word with the "quad" in front probably meant Quadcore... He's not a troll and yes, Bully is buggy...

Its now 1 week to release the game. If they keep bugs/crashes, they delay it again. These days comes only bugged games Im surprised.
texan1985
Maybe they wanted 2 weeks to make a quick patch, to release when the game releases.
looloolooigotsomeapples
Would it crash on a 2.5 ghz Pentium Dual-Core with Wolfdale? Because as far as I am concerned, those are completely different than a Pentium D, and faster as well.
ROFL2008
Yes the magazine said that it crashed on a Pentium D
looloolooigotsomeapples
Yes the magazine said that it crashed on a Pentium D That's not what I was asking. The Pentium D and the Pentium Dual-Core are different. The Pentium Dual Core (the model I have) is newer, and will most likely play GTA 4 if they fix all the problems. I heard that you can overclock mine to 4 ghz.
ROFL2008
Oh sorry yes it will maybe run because the architecture is like a core 2 duo e4000 but a little bit slower they just have not so much cache
Devils Dog
Hi, I hope it runs on a Pentium Dual Core as I have the E2220 2.4ghz. My understand is the Pentium Dual Core is just a cheaper C2D as they came out around the same time as C2D.

looloolooigotsomeapples
yes its like a celeron for the core 2 duo series! Thanks, I was getting worried. Pentium D's might get some playability because they tested a different version than the final, which will be more optimized, unless they just release a sh*tload of patches. ROFL2008
Yes i think the final version is better optimized for older hardware If not then rockstar loses much costumers... And remember that you can play it on older pcs too. But then the game looks more bad then the console versions! But Dualcore Processors are really required! According to those screenshot comparisons from that magazine it will look exactly like the console versions on low settings, close anyway.
ROFL2008
Yes but the console versions are running the game at 1280x1024 with 2x Anti Aliasing but on PC you can run it on 640x480,1024x786 or 800x600 too! And you change the shader qualitys and those things! This why im saying that it runs on older pcs who are slower than the consoles too! ROFL2008
No its because of Euphoria the bad thing is that you cannot change the physics to low or high.

ROFL2008
I dont think it will run because the Euphoria Physics Engine need very much CPU Power for all those realistic ragdoll animations and for those realistic car crashes
