GTA Online - 6 months later

It's been almost six months since GTA4 came out and I still remember layin back on the leather executive with a scotch and coke a big tv and hours of gta online..

In the last few weeks I've bought from EB games, Dead space, mid night club LA, Mirrors edge and NFS undercover, out of these the only real one I have played mostly is NFS undercover, it's the first game since GTA that I have actually felt the want to play. However even though GTA became boring about 2 months ago, you still can't beat that mad chill of GTA online.

I want to know what GTA4 Online means to you people now? Do you play to get your kill fix? Do you play to get your race win buzz? do you play to relax on FM? or are you abit simple minded and want to get your rank up?

Whatever it means to you now, I wanna know.

I got it in late July, never really tried online, then in August I broke my ankle, so was more housebound.

Cue all day free mode sessions, new friends, arguments, coming here.

Now I'm up and about, I miss playing the game as much and try to make time to do so. When you are so into a game like this and start exploring every nook and cranny and glitch, or start mastering gameplaying tactics, you need something new. So my interest is waning, but with DLC inevitable, I'm sure I'll pick up.

Thank god for online.

I got tired of single player halfway through the game. Only so many "drive to spot, chase dudes, kill person" missions you can play.

I'd never played online before so the entire experience has been wild, especially playing against people who've been playing shooters for years.

I went through an intense ranking up period, followed by the discovery that AA had not really done me right as a shooter, so I started over again playing mainly AA off games and have had a blast. I love TDM and have yet to even really delve into the Alderny and Dukes/Broker maps. Lots to explore, lots of ways to kill people and at least once a day I'll do something or see somebody else do something that makes me think "wow, that's new/cool!"

Then I noticed people were starting to drive me over during games or blow me up with the rocket launcher. I read here that they were called "griefers" and puzzled over why that could be entertaining to somebody. So I created my troll account and have found yet another way to absolutely keep this game fresh and amusing.

I'm waiting on the day I get home and just don't care to play GTA 4 but this has yet to happen.

Haven't played single player in so long I wonder how easy it would be now that I've had to battle real people.

I don't play online too long, mainly singleplayer.

But superjdude, to answer your question on how hard it is on sp after mp, well even on aa off, quite easy, and I am not even the best at aa off.

i still haven't finished single player, and i got the game in april. lol

as soon as roman gave me that phone, i went to multiplayer and never looked back. sometimes i feel like i've seen everything and done everything. now it's almost turned into a chat room. i just go online to talk to my friends and occasionally shoot people.

i bought gears of war 2 and left for dead, so i had a nice break from GTA for a bit, but i kinda feel like finishing off the GTA singleplayer, however i know as soon as i drive all the way to the mission and fail, i'll get pissed and go online instead.

got the game day 1, by 6 hours into day 1 i was in free mode..... was in free mode for about 2 weeks on and off. then had a huge break not playing at all, came back and played it none stop for about 3 months, now i just play it very casually again

but its definately an addicting multiplayer, freemode has so many different characters, plots and roles.... if you have an imagination any gta multiplayer is the game for you

I bought GTA IV the day that it came out and I bought it mainly for the fact that you could play others online. Like SuperJude, I had never played any game online before and was not expecting to be able to really compete. Because of that I only played SP for the first week.

When I finally went online, I discovered a wonderful thing...my loss of reflexes (as I am old...lol) turned out NOT to be much of a factor like it had been playing games like Halo with my teenage son and his friends (I ALWAYS lost!). In fact, after about 3 or 4 days online I realized that not only could I compete, at that time, there was NO ONE that could compete with me; not even the 2 or 3 high rank 8 or 9 players.

I achieved my Rank 9 strictly in DM and so my skills got good pretty fast (AA on).

After a few months I started playing AA off games more often and my skills increased even more...and this is what I have been concentrating on, for the most part, until recently.

I also tried some new games since then (Mirror's Edge, MCLA, SRII, etc.) but NONE of them have kept my attention or have the online play that is comparable to GTA IV.

I also created a griefer account and am having lots of fun ruining others fun...which, if you were to go back 4 months and read my posts here, would seem like a cotradiction (I used to bitch constantly about griefers).

Overall, I don't see any games coming out that I would want to play online more than GTA. The CODs & GOW type shooters are just beyond my reach, skillwise. Until they release some open-ended (my favorite type of VG) games for online, such as Oblivion or Fall Out, which I don't see happening anytime soon, I will be playing GTA IV.

GTA IV has the potential for more variety than ANY other game online. While I might get bored with DM after a while, there is still TDM for me to explore, glitches I still haven't found (I still can't get a frikkin chopper into the Empire building!...damnit!) coops to learn (played a turf war the other night...might be cool!), stunt ramps and spots yet to discover, road blocks to build, n00bs to help/hunt, the rumor of DLC coming (want to play pool online), and I haven't even started exploring the big island on the left of the map (am terrible remembering names), etc. etc. etc. ..you get the idea.

I will ALWAYS be a GTAer! devil.gif

Cool topic-there's nothing like hitting up that bong and firing up the PS3 for some good ol GTA deathmatch.

I remember playing San Andreas for the first time and having so much fun w/ the gang wars and thinking how cool it would be to have a city to roam around and kill other people playing online. Have yet to beat the game as well because multiplayer is where it's at. Guess I'm being a bit greedy here but I would love RS to occasionally infuse mp with new maps-to me that would keep things fresh. Back to San Andreas, I would really want a demolition derby mode in a future update

I'm working on the new Call of Duty right now but every once in a while I'll takea stab again at IV multiplayer because I want my rank 10 but sometimes I get bored and lose interest after a few games but you can never completely deny that awesome IV feel of seamlessly getting run over by cars and flinging people across cities with helicopters. I'll still be playing and even more when DLC comes

If you're creative, there is a limitless amount of fun to be had.

In TDM, I'm still working on being as deadly with the headshots as the top players I've gamed with as well as figuring out infallable strategies for certain levels and areas.

FM is more like an every couple weeks thing and since I have yet to get the exploration bug, I pretty much end up glitching and griefing, though I have found FM makes for a great practice area for TDM as deaths don't count against you.

Of course the main thing I've been focusing on has been becoming the greatest TDM griefer ever. Sure anybody can drive over their teammates or blow them up but there are so many subtle ways to grief and different goals.

Do you want to annoy a particular person or the entire team?

Do you want your team to lose or just get pissed off?

I've griefed people who didn't even realize they got griefed.

Guy on the corner peaking around that I pushed into the line of fire? Never noticed.

Guy running from the rocket launcher from the other team that I nailed, ending with him dying? Never noticed.

Or I'll intentionally run over people, but only once, then beep beep beep for them to get in. Take them to the area where fighting is going on like a good trooper and somehow manage to run them over again when they get out.

Let alone the griefing I won't post here because I don't want to give away all my secrets!

The amount of disconnections I have had recently are annoying me. I am close to jacking it in.

Am online far less these days, need to get back to fitness for football. And, y'know, go oot sometimes!

Agreed with SJ.

There are so many different ways to grief, this game will take a long time to get old.

At least for me.

I was on $2447 with this noob driving down the hill toward me.

I locked on.

I played a lot of SP at first, then went online and the only times I have not played online GTA are when I had internet issues or something like that. I'm not sure if I'm even 1/3 of the way through SP. I agree with one previous poster, you can only do so much chase dudes, kill dudes, etc. Plus there is so much in SP that I miss from previous games, like the tank and other military vehicles, flying ALL of the airplanes, not just the freakin' choppers they have now....what happened to the rockets on the Annihilator??!! Also cool/fun cheats like the bike hopping, and flying cars....WTF happened to all the damnass cheats? F'n Rockstar left off a lot of stuff that might have kept me playing SP all the way through, IMO.

So I wasn't too much of an online person at first. I wasn't really interested in anything but racing, as that's always been my type of game. A good friend of mine finally got the game and was not a racer, so I decided to try the other modes with him. I play more Turf War than anything, followed by racing and DM.

After a while it got a little old, but I was still having a good time. There are nights where play gets frustrating. Since I bought GTA earlier this spring I have bought Battlefield Bad Company and MCLA. I have played MCLA for a total of maybe 3 or 4 hours since it came out, and I bought it about a week after it's release. I spent a lot of time on Bad Company's Demo MP for a while, but after buying the game when the price went down I opened it and set it by my other games and haven't even put it in the PS3 yet. Mainly because I'm playing GTA, partly because a friend of mine who is a fan of the game has yet to buy it...once he does I'll probably be playing B: BC more often. I'm not sure when I'll play MCLA again. I like the game, but my attracting to racing games is kind of going away.

I didn't know what a griefer was until my friend told me after I complained to him about getting nailed several times and knocked out of first in races. I didn't think about trying it until one guy kept bumping me trying to get the lead, so after he spun me out I turned around and targeted him. It was then that I found out just how much fun griefing was and understood the reason behind it. Now I would say about 1/3 of my online play is consumed with griefing.

All of GTA, online and single player, has always ment freedom to me. I havn't played another well put together game that gives you the same type of freedom as GTA. Even in SR2 you can't choose wich Multiplayer game your playing.

In IV you can pick which game you want, and play it however you want, thats why im still playing it now and none of my other games.

You can pick which game mode you want, but you can't pick which game you want to play in.....you just gotta hop around until you find one, which is a bunch of bullsh*t.

Aye, they need a better lobby system that allows you to preview games before you jump in.

Number of times I've spawned into a crap free mode where there's one other person, who shoots you while you are checking the game options on the fone/trying to move on.

its boring most of the time now, nothing to do

Theres fighting, stunts and racing.

It does get boring but theres also exploring and climbing which i really never seen anyone do.

I usually go into free mode with FF off and find unusual thing to climb (without using a heli).

Its very fun when i do access some place youll never see someone at.
