Dunpeal
Well my fiance is going to a dinner tomorrow night and said she will be having one drink. The lady who is hosting the dinne is also pregnant and told her it is ok to drink occasionaly. We were both under the impression that drinking while prgnant is a bad idea, until the host told her its ok. But after googling it i found both good and bad things about it? Some saying just not to do it at all. Some saying that the very occasional drink can help mellow out your child later on. I know after this dinner she wont have another one until he is born. But still im a little worried. What does GTAF, in its infinite wisdom, have to say on the matter?
kerouac.
I don't really see the point in having one drink if you were both that previously concerned. I'm sure a lot of of parents have done it with no real apparent consequences, but I would just go with your instincts on this.
Dunpeal
It's not that we were concerned. We were just undr the impression you don't until this lady told my fiance otherwise.
Picolini
While one drink is most likely not going to hurt, I wouldn't take the chance. Unless your fiance is a raging alcoholic who can't go with out a drink, I don't see why it's that necessary. It's crazy how insane women get over their knowledge of pregnancy. I've worked with 3 women who've had kids and they get so uptight about their views on what's right and what's wrong. From what it sounds like, the lady at the dinner party would probably get offended and throw a big bitch-fit and try to explain how it's ok if your wife declined the drink. I f*cking hate people that are so pushy with their beliefs, it's ridiculous.
Iminicus
Having a glass of red wine actually benefits both mother and child. Red wine is full of anti oxidants which the mother passes onto the fetus. Most doctors say having a glass is okay. The problem is when you are drinking a bottle while pregnant. When my sister was pregnant with both my niece and nephew, she would have the occasionally glass of wine. Moderation is key here.

Lochie_old
Oh god you guys, I'm back. Hayden
I just consulted my parents (mother of three and a general practitioner) and they both advise that your fiancé doesn't drink. Did California elect it's first gay african jew cripple Governor yet? I definitely think that women are crazy uptight about pregnancy in these modern times, I mean the sh*t pretty much happened by itself for how many millenniums? Apparently doctors get paid more if they perform a C-Section rather than deliver the baby naturally, which is probably why it's almost standard these days. Stefan.
I just consulted my parents (mother of three and a general practitioner) and they both advise that your wife doesn't drink. Your mother's a doctor? That's f*cking awesome. My parents said it's best not to drink unless you absolutely have to, or want to. If your fiancee is so desperate for a drink, then I don't think having one glass would be too harmful. As long as she doesn't end up getting pissed, she should be OK. And as has been mentioned, red wine has a lot of anti-oxidants and sh*t, and is good for blood pressure, which can be increased in pregnancy. Dunpeal
Yea... She got told it would cost $1200-1400AU to stay in hospital for the 4 days to give our son his shots and immunisations (sp?), and about $900-$1200AU for the actual birth. My mother mentioned out of experience that drinking whilst pregnant was not pleasant.
Stefan.
Hayden: Yeah, I know what you mean, my parents discouraged it as well (mum's a gynaecologist). Dunpeal: Have you got Medicare health insurance? You should definitely get it before the baby is born, because then when it comes to immunisations they can partly cover for your expenses. Despite the unfair taxes, the ridiculous nepotism and the fact that Canada is run like a welfare state half the time I can't imagine a world without free health care. Guybrush Threepwood
Bah. Traffic in Enoggera is bad enough as it is. No more people, please. Start removing traffic signs and people will solve it themselves. The first six months it'll be a little busier, what with all the crashes, but after that it's all smooth sailing. Drag_Drift
I think a glass of wine wouldn't hurt. But a glass of Tanduay or Absinthe may have adverse effects.
Jack_Knife
Do you really need to ask the internet if your pregnant wife should take drugs? Moonshield is 100% correct and he is also the expert according to his post. Not to mention that Psychiatry has a prooven claim that alcohol during pregancy seems to be the only causal factor in the developement of Borderline Personality Disorder identified at this time. (effecting the fetus or child as it were for the rest of their life) & BPD is really f*ckered up! Not to mention all the other things that take place....low birth weight, deformity....ect.
