archey
Okay, so I've decided to get a new computer soon. I want it to be a gaming computer, i want to buy, wireless modem with it and a wireless USB adapter, and a Logitech 8 button mouse. but what I'm not sure of is, how much GB's of Ram I'll need, a graphics card fit for gaming, and the processor. Can you guys help me out with how much GB's of Ram I'll need, a graphics card fit for gaming, and the processor.i want to be able to run call of Duty: world at War, GTA IV, and obviously other GTA's if GTA IV will run. So tell me what a good gaming video card is, a good processor for gaming, and how much RAM i will need(i suspect 2-4 GB)

IrishCommander
you'd probably be looking for something along the lines of a core i7 with 3gb ddr2 ram and an nvidia geforce gtx280. that would be your best bet.

Intel i7 Quad: Here. EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280: Here. They're both pretty expensive, but you say you're not on any kind of budget, so you should really consider these. Also, I found the cheapest of each type anyway, since other models were over the top. If you're going for 3GB, why not 4GB of dual channel RAM? 4GB isn't necessary, but it's always good to think ahead to when you might really need it. Here. archey
well, my budget is kinda like 2k, so would a 8800 GT GeForce NVIDIA, and intel dual core processor do for gaming?
TheSamurai Hobo
2000 is more than enough (assuming you're using CDN, based on your flag) I built mine with a little over 1000 but to answer your question, Yes.
Jim
well, my budget is kinda like 2k, so would a 8800 GT GeForce NVIDIA, and intel dual core processor do for gaming? Yeah, but with the money you have, and if you plan to put it completely toward this PC, I would highly recommend doing better than a dual core or a 8800GT. Drag_Drift
If the i7 can't fit, you can always try the Q6600 quad. Perfect for gaming. As for a GPU, I suggest the 8800 or a 9500+ GeForce. So far they have never been dethroned as the best budget gaming cards.
XMike
If you have $2000 to spend, might as well splurge and get yourself an i7, gtx 280, and 4 gigs. Along with a kick ass monitor, speakers, and other peripherals.
Agent_Orange
The nVidia GTX280+ is a faster (overclocked cpu core) cooler running card (55nm die shrink [ plus faster shaders ]) than the nonplus GTX 280.
SmellyJelly
From what I've heard, the HD4870X2 is the best performing card available right now, though the benchmarks seem to favor the GTX280. I'm build a new computer with a Q6600 tomorrow, and you can't really go wrong with that processor, but I second XMike's suggestion.
jelly
The 4870X2 (and any other X2/GX2/whatever cards) are nightmares. Bad driver support, stuttering.. You're much better off with a single-chip card.

Thanks man that does help. Yeah, but with the money you have, and if you plan to put it completely toward this PC, I would highly recommend doing better than a dual core or a 8800GT.
