Mark
I was in a situation about 2 years back where some people tried to mug me, didn't work though, just legged it back out onto a busy main road near some pubs (was about 11 at night). It's not a nice situation to be in I admit. Scary sh*t. What's most important is that you yourself are alright, sod the belongings they can be replaced. I have only ever been mugged once. I was 14 and some c*nts took £10 off me. Since then I've never allowed my self to be humiliated like that again. If someone has tried to mug me since you stand up like a man and tell them to f*ck off or you go down fighting. It's gotten me in some trouble, I was almost stabbed when I was 15 but in my opinion is it better to go away with a black eye and your self respect than to lose your things and your pride. So, rather than whine about it let it be a lesson to you and a reminder that you should man up.

I'll be seeing you on BBC London News that you've been stabbed to death and I'll just facepalm out of your stupidity. £200 odd of belongings isn't worth dying for. Hell it's not worth being stabbed for. Costs a fair chunk more than £200 to patch you up to the average taxpayer, so don't be a muppet cause of pride. Sure one or 2 people may make a joke out of it, but if anyone thinks you're a pussy for being mugged, they're not worthy friends. If a mate of mine got mugged I'd be more worried about their safety than thinking they're a pussy. Surely you would too? ED: Just seen your latest post. Oh no. Eddie280
And Eddie, you think I got punched because I just stood there? Well it doesn't sound like you put up much of a fight. Like I said, learn from it. You don't want your Rammstein songs taken away from you? Then learn how to stop this sort of stuff from happening. I'm not having a go, I'm just saying that this sort of thing will happen to nearly every guy in their life and it's how you react to it which makes a difference. Oxidizer
Well it doesn't sound like you put up much of a fight. I doubt when you get mugged you somehow think of putting up a fight. I'm pretty sure most people would freeze for a moment. That aside, all your porn! Would you like one of my hot hitwomen to avenge you now? But seriously, f*ck, that really sucks. I hope you can replace most of the stuffs that was stolen and get some kind of compensation to pay for the new ones.
Mark
EDIT: Marky, would you be worried for my safety? I'd be worried about anyone getting attacked by someone, even if I hated em. Just don't be a muppet by getting yerself hurt. By all means try shrug em off but if it gets violent just give em what they want. When I leave the house I usually leave with my iphone, another £100 odd mp3 player, wallet with numerous cards in it and my house keys. I nearly always have about £30 minimum on me in cash. If someone tried to mug me (If you've ever been through West Croydon at night you can figure the odd of being mugged) I'd be pretty pissed off but apart from telling em to get f*cked and maybe hitting em and legging it I wouldn't do much to fight it. My phone's insured anyway, the only bitch would be getting my cards back. Not to mention, you tend to find they operate late at night after the pubs empty as people have usually had a skinful. I count myself lucky I've never been attacked on my way home cause sometimes I can hardly stand let alone fight. Best advice? Stick with someone. Usually I'm the bloke walking the bird home or to their bus/tram/train/whatever stop, but if you're in a group it's safer. Sure, minuted from home you're probably on your own but meh, around town stick with people. @Emsixteen: Good to see someone else has an ounce of intelligence on the issue . Mark
Eddie and Royal Criminal, both idiots for completely different reasons. Well done, Mark. Got the right attitude on that one. I'm sorry, but let me ask; have you ever been mugged? It's natural not to want to give all your things away to some lifeless sh*t you don't know. But I'm not as dumb as Eddie, if they flashed a knife I would give them everything they wanted. I've been in a situation, I still think it's stupid to put up a fight. I'd rather live to buy another phone than end up dead. As for knives...round here, anyone doing any mugging would more than likely have one on them. They may not show it at 1st but if you push em to using it by putting up a decent fight most wouldn't hesitate to use it if you've just smacked em one. You might not even get the chance to surrender. They may not show it at 1st but if you push em to using it by putting up a decent fight most wouldn't hesitate to use it if you've just smacked em one. You might not even get the chance to surrender. That's pretty much exactly what happened to me. The only reason I wasn't stabbed is because he dropped it as he tried to take it out of his pocket, gave him time to think I'd imagine because after that he just sort of waved it at me before running away. I do agree with you and EmSixteen that losing some money isn't worth getting stabbed or possibly killed over, of course. Just I've never really thought about it at the time. I actually just get indignant and think 'What gives you the right to demand my things?' So if I've ever refused a mugger or gotten in a fight it's not because I've thought I was hard or anything of the sort (Mark's seen my picture he can attest to this ) it's really just me getting angry. Stupid I know, and I've come across poorly in my replies in here so far. But for me it's not been about a conscious decision, the last time I've been approached was when I was 16 and that time and everytime before I've not applied rational thought to the situation. In retrospect I always thought I was lucky things didn't turn out for the worse, but like you are saying I still have that ridiculous pride in not being 'defeated' if you know what I mean?' But pride and anger in situations like these are of course nothing but destructive, however that is a vice I'm prone to. There is no doubt that to allow them to take your things is the safer option. It just depends what sort of personality you have.

kietotheworld
The attitude of "give them all your money, don't fight" is the reason why there are so many muggers, if all they've got to do it flash a knife and you'll immediately surrender all your belongings then it's not wonder they're happy to mug you. If someone with a knife tried to mug me I would headbutt him, boot him in the bollocks, stamp on his head and then steal his knife and laugh at him. If everyone would rather risk their lives than give up their belongings no-one would have to do either.

Digïtál £vîl
Can I ask, were you mugged by a woman? I'm only asking this because you called the mugger a "bitch" and I wasn't sure if it was applicable because of their gender or because you were simply mad at them and wanted to sound tough. I want to know this so I can tell if I should "lol" or not at the fact that you were mugged by a woman. Please let me know. Thanks.
Saggy
Speaking as a guy who has been mugged over a dozen times... There are several different types of muggings. The ones where they present you with a knife, weapon, or some other thing in exchange for your stuff is by far my favorite. You have a chance to escape injury ( at least severe injury ), by just giving them your sh*t. Half of the time, people committing this type of mugging are jumpy, paranoid, and anxious to get away. You can quite often say, "I don't have any money," and they will simply take off; they might try to knock you down, but that's a lot better than being stabbed or beat senseless. Then there are your rush muggings. There's no, "Give me your money or I'll cut you," dynamic here. Usually if you even manage to see your attacker, you're already down on the ground guarding against a barrage of kicks. Usually there's more than one, and while one is kicking and punching, the other is rummaging through your pockets. These can be the worst, because they don't care where you are; it's smash and grab, so the fact that you're in broad daylight, with people around, doesn't make a difference. They just don't give a f*ck. Quite possibly the biggest pride bruising one is the group. There's nothing better than walking up on a group of close to ten people, and having them say, "Give us your sh*t, or we're going to stomp you." There's not really a whole lot you can do in this situation but give them your stuff. You can try to fight back, but in many ways, getting beaten to within an inch of your life by close to ten people is a lot worse than being stabbed or clubbed with something once or twice. I was actually just involved in a rush-mugging the other night. I locked myself out of my dorm room, and walked to convenient store at about 2:00 AM to use a phone and call campus security. On the way there, two Nortenos jumped me. Pretty much the exact dynamic I explained, one kicked while the other picked. They didn't really hurt me too bad, mostly my pride was bruised; well, and my rib cage. They didn't get anything though, considering I had locked myself out of my dorm room accidentally and all my sh*t was up there. Haha, nuts to them. That's about as much satisfaction you can hope to get out of the situation without being a 'tard and risking your life. Which I have done plenty of times. I once got in a bit of a knife fight with one guy. He said, "Hand me your wallet," so I reached into my pocket, and flicked my knife out. The two of us stood there wielding knives, looking at each other. We each knew we couldn't hurt the other, without being hurt ourselves, and he took off. If your assailant isn't so clever, then get ready to get some stitches later, and possibly even take a life. Besides, these guys aren't amateurs, most of them don't let you go into your pocket; and if you have a knife, it's theirs now. As much as I've been a target for muggings, there's two things that I have learned: 1) Don't take anything valuable with you that you don't want to get stolen. Hey, it's a sh*tty world, but you're safer protecting your stuff like this than you are bleeding out on the concrete. 2) Don't fight back unless you're already being attacked. If someone immediately jumps you, they probably don't have a weapon, but on the other hand, if they simply approach you, they may have a weapon concealed. "Go f*ck yourself buddy," will quickly lead to you being shot in the leg ( if you're lucky ). 3) Stay in the light, or in some vicinity of traffic. This way if someone does dare to mug you, and you get hurt badly, you'll still have some chance that someone will help you out. I've been in a mugging situation before by one gang, when out of nowhere five or six guys from a rival gang pile out to take care of the guys f*cking sh*t up on their turf. That's a rare occurrence, but at least you have a hope of making it to a hospital if sh*t really goes bad. The most important thing to remember is not to make yourself a target at all. Sometimes you have no chance, but don't be an idiot and go walking around late at night with a nice watch, your iPod in your face, just flaunting the fact that you're a walking money-bag. Then again, when I was rushed the other night, I didn't even have a coat; I think they chose me because I look liked I'd be an easy one, cold and sore from walking already in 30F, I went down pretty quick. That's my take on it. I don't get mugged nearly as much as when I lived by the bad side of town. It was really quite lame over there. Some times people would take your sh*t just for fun, not even about a mugging. "Hey, man, your coat looks nice, give it up," while gripping a pistol. Yeah, like I'm going to sit there and dare them to shoot me for a f*cking coat. These guys shoot each other over the price of weed, I'm not crazy enough to try act all full of pride. Anyway, take this advice with a grain of salt. Being mugged so much, there's got to be something I'm not doing right. Edit I also forgot to mention one thing. Having your pride hurt, and constantly going over, "I should have fought them, I should have done this," kind of sucks. Risking your life, and constantly recursing, "I almost died," is much worse. Chargr
I've been mugged several times, mostly by gang members here in L.A. Luckily never have I been hit or shot. Its just "Where you from? What you got?" that's it. I remember when I was with my tagging crew, and we saw about 4 bloods, at first we where saying to ourselves "we can handle this sh*t". But once we got closer, they all spread out and it was about 15 of them. They just searched us, and that was it. They also gave us a warning not to tag in their hood. It gets scary, but after it happens alot, you know what to do.

If they actually thought you were from a rival L.A. gang and were tagging up their hood, it should have been a lot worse than that. You remember about 6 months ago or so, those string of random bus stop shootings going on around here in L.A? Just random rival gang members running into each other while waiting for public transportation and having shootouts. A few innocent people (including kids) got killed because of it. Lucky, man. Tagging in bad parts of L.A. seems to be an extremely retarded concept to me.

You're remark on how you would deal with a mugger did make me laugh though, no one is impressed it just made everyone think you're a bit of a tit... Of course it wasn't entirely serious but if everyone did have an attitude like that then there would certainly be far less Muggings. The problem is that very few are willing to take this risk because people are too small minded and Selfish to see the long term consequences of giving all their stuff without putting up a fight. Mike Tequeli
It seems like getting mugged with a knife is small potatoes compared to a gun. Why not just run away? Like Sag said, they probably aren't willing to devote much time to you, so they wouldn't give chase. Not that I know what I'm talking about, being Canadian and all. Actually Toronto seems increasingly sh*tty every year, gangs mostly. Not that I've noticed or anything, just basing this off the news.
