TECHN9CiAN
Wow! Thanks a lot everyone. I got the money ready, but there's one last question to ask: Is there any word on the next generation consoles? And that NXE is awesomw! I saw it on my cousins XBOX 360, and I was impressed. Plus being able to silence it is a huge plus.
Democrab
Next Gen? I doubt until 2010, at least. You'll get a good game out of the 360 if you get it now.

My brother has a Wii downstairs, but my newest console is either a PS2 or PSP. Not counting my PC of course, which I play many of the games sold for the PS3/360 on. Jim
I had the RRoD about 2 - 3 months ago. It was the first time it has happened to me after owning my Xbox 360 for about a year and a half. I had a GPU failure, which caused the ring, but my CD drive was also going. So, just to be safe, I sent a letter with my Xbox describing the problems I had with the CD drive, to ensure myself I would get a new one. About one week later, I got my Xbox 360 back, with a replaced CD drive, and the console was MUCH quieter. I thought something was wrong when I started it for the first time, since repair, and I couldn't hear anything. I was, honestly, impressed by their service. As mentioned a few times above, newer Xbox 360s are sent with improvements to reduce failures. I wouldn't worry about a thing. Though, if the unfortunate happens, you don't have to worry much about the service quality of the repair. xrk
Most of the xbox horror stories were from PS3 fanboys anyway. You dont honestly believe that do you? the rrod is (maybe was if they've fixed it now idk) a real problem not some ps3 "fanboy" made up or exaggerated thing and the ammount of people Ive heard say Ive had my 360 x-amount of time and its been fine, only to have it happen to them shortly after is a joke That being said apparenty the've fixed it so who knows if you get a new model. Democrab
I have both, and the 360 is sh*t. Hardware wise, the PS3 sh*ts on the 360. And PC makes them both its bitch. To be honest, buying now, I'd rather have a PS3 with LittleBigPlanet, what would I be missing out on the 360? Fable 2? Meh.

The RRoD was (and still is) a real problem, but it wasn't even close to being as common as most people made it seem. But, I suppose it will always be the same. PlayStation 3 owners will always talk about better hardware and the RRoD, Xbox 360 owners will talk about Grand Theft Auto IV's downloadable content and better online service, but in the end, they both suck compared to any gaming PC. The rrod has happened to everyone I know with a 360 in a few cases multiple times so as far as I can tell it is every bit as common as it was made out to be but in the end, they both suck compared to any gaming PC. Pat
Most as in the majority.. which is untrue! The rrod has happened to everyone I know with a 360 So you know almost every person that owns an Xbox 360? Is that what you're saying? Get your facts straight; the RRoD is no where near as common as you seem to think it is. You can disagree, you can claim that everyone you know has had it, but the fact is, it's just a f*cking exaggeration, and it's really starting to piss me off. GTASIX
Dont put stuff in the way of the air vents and stuff or else the heat bounces back into the 360. let it breathe and it should be fine.
Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
^ I learned that lesson the hard way. Shame too, I had been taking good care of it for so long. But a few weeks in a cramped space and it dies on me.

Im just not prepered to have to send it in to get fixed every year or how ever long it'll probably last Like I said.. it seems to be as bad as far as I can tell and as for pissing you off lmao. Why would it affect you emotionally its just a f*cking console? Edited November 20, 2008 by xrk
Pat
so as far as I can tell Why would it affect you emotionally its just a f*cking console? That's the point: so far as you know. As for affecting me emotionally, I meant the fact of how much the RRoD is being exaggerated.
MyStIcAL_623
Hey it's not much of a risk really. The stupid 360 is under warranty after you buy it. that means if it f*cks up in anyway by itself, you can send it in to get it fixed for free and wait a few days. You don't have to pay any shipping and handling. I had to send mine in 2 years ago and they gave me a new one. Since then, I've had no f*cking problems. Supa Dupa
I heard the new 60GB model is much more reliable because it uses a jasper chipset which is better than the falcon one.
Kaiser_AK
I've been one of those lucky guys who never had to go through this hell. My coworker just got it over the weekend and he probably won't be able to play during Thanksgiving so that sucks. I would say go ahead and get it, its a great system... good sense and proper care should keep you safe.
TECHN9CiAN
Thanks for all your imput, gentlemen. After years of debating, and weighing the pros and cons, based on what i am specifically looking for in a console, i have decided to get a 360. I'm on my way to get it now! Bernard Jazz
Well, I suppose 4 years is plenty of time to think about these things. The slim model is more reliable too, so you've probably got more chance of something else killing it before RRoD. Enjoy your 360!

The-King
360 hardware is sh*t compared to PS3. The only reason I use mine is because I have more friends on 360 than PS3. Actually, technically speaking, both of their hardware is sh*t. The PS3 has a more powerful CPU and the 360 has a better GPU and the advantage of running on DirectX as opposed to OpenGL, but they both suffer from running on six or so year old tech. If we're going from a technical perspective, a five year old PC would outperform both of them in a pinch. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|

The red ring of death has taken a lot more 360s than the yellow light of death has taken PS3s. But I agree with you on the pc aspect. As long as your good about keeping its temperature down, a pc will outlive any console any day.
Toke
a pc will outlive any console any day. Tell that to the two desktops and laptop I've gone through since I bought my 360 in 07 which has never given me RROD or any issues. From my experience PCs are not worth the investment, in fact (for me) they're a huge waste of money since I've had to replace them due to catastrophic failure once every three to four years on average since I bought my first tower back in 1997. Yet since I bought my first console back in 1990 I've only had TWO go tits up on me and those were both PS2s. I guess experiences change from person to person.
