Killing people in moving vehicles

Am I missing something here? Whenever I'm attempting a drive-by against someone (who is usually rank 6 or above) I always get toasted instantly. Yet, when I try to kill someone trying to do a drive by on me I could unload 60 rounds from the M-4 and hardly dent their health. I've just about givin up on shooting moving vehicles unless I have them trapped and I have a shotgun or rocket launcher. It seems to be the only reliable weapons against them. I can be in a helicopter 30 ft above the enemy, thinking they cant even get an auto aim lock on me (the only time I can ever lock onto someone in a helicopter is if i can at least see them thru the cockpit window, right?)...but sure enough they somehow take me out as I'm flying by them. What the hell?!? It's very frustrating. And it seems only the high ranking people can pull this off. Lots of times I can do cirlces in a vehicle around a rank 1,2, or 3 and they, like me, can't hit me worth a sh*t. But its like the upper rank guys have some secret button they push or some sh*t and I'm dead. Theres got to be some sort of trick or secret I'm missing out on. Please do tell...appreciate it!

Same trick as all the other "how do they do it?" threads.

Actually aim, as opposed to holding down auto-aim and firing blindly.

Headshots my friend.

Headshots.

thanks captain obvious

You're more than welcome.

Also when you want to drive a vehicle in GTA4, just jump into a vehicle and start driving.

I would have to say, if you want to kill people in moving vehicles you should probably have a weapon on you, preferably one that shoots something. Then you'd want to "aim" at the vehicle and ideally shoot at said vehicle.

Hope this helps!

Am I missing something here?

Manners, common sense, skill, hand-eye co-ordination, a sense of self, an avatar, location, some personal blurb in your signature, personality and a tissue to wipe the tears away from your eyes so you can aim properly.

Hope this helps!

Maybe you're just not good at the game...... yet?

Don't expect though to kill someone in an infernus going past you at 70 mph.

Also the back vents on the infernus which replaces the back window is good protection against bullets.

Line up your aim with the drivers side and fire away at the head if you see blood splatter on the windshield you are doing your job. If they get too close while your aiming at them and shooting just move to the side and theyll drive right past. Another thing to remember though is watch your radar there were countless times where I was fighting someone and I got smashed by a car speeding from me behind pay attention to the quick moving blips so you can roll out of the way just in time. One more thing to remember even if you kill them the car is still gonna go which could still get you hit so move out of the way.

I just constantly practice aiming for the drivers position on the windshield, and after a lot of practice you naturally get a feel for it and your reflexes just make you aim there.

now if you are using auto aim then its a different story...much easier....of course auto aim is for newbs.

heh. I'm a self confessed newb. Poor eyesight means I have trouble in seeing where people are generally, so Auto-aim is a necessity. However, I've got a LOT better with practice.

Run around town with the pistol capping computer-generated drivers. Worked for me. Remember its America, so the driver is on the left. Aim there and watch a nice splatter appear.

Peds are practice.

You do press R3 when you shoot, right?

Well all these replies and no one has mentioned it yet. When shooting a moving target, especially a fast moving target. Aim infront where the target is going to be. No point aiming straight for them when they won't be in the same positon by the time the bullet hits.

So if AA is on, lock on to the target and move the reticule slightly to the direction they are travelling in.

I started to get pretty good at shooting people in cars with AA on disallow until I stopped playing for a while.

Here's what you said:

Also if you may have noticed already when a car passes you at good speed the aiming reticule will "lag" behind a little simulating the bullet travel. It's best to shoot them when they're coming at you, or away from you is what I discovered.

You said shoot them when they are coming at you or moving away, that could be interpreted as shooting them through the windscreen dead on or shooting through the back window whilst they are driving away. You didn;t mention target tracking, just lag.

I thought you meant that, but with this being an international forum, people with different levels of english skills and also new players. I thought it was best to clarify.

I used lag for lack of a better term not actual latency. What I meant was the AA compensates for bullet travel when locked onto a player.

On a random note anyone on in a bit? I really wanna shoot some people in cars tounge.gif

Ah ok, didn;t know AA compensates for bullet trajectory. I always move the reticule/aim slighty in the direction the target is travelling when AA is on.

But then again I find it more fun to shoot out their tires and watch them slide about, then I like to try get their car on fire before killing them.

yes... (well the xbox equivalent). Believe me, I need autoaim. Call me noob, cheat, idiot whatever. It's the way I have to have it set up to even begin to enjoy the game.

It has nothing to do with rank, its just here more experienced and have better aim than you. Work on your aim.

There were four guys following me in a car, I went into an ally found and Ak, got right next to the car and killed them all. cool.gif

It was the coolest thing I did in GTA for a month.

Most of you probably know this, but when there's a few players in a car. Always take out the driver first. It's funny the amount of times I've seen someone try kill people in a car but not shoot the driver first.

It gives you a good laugh to see 4 people in a car trying to kill you. You shoot and kill the driver leaving the passengers as sitting ducks. The funny thing is watching them flea or remain seated thinking they could outgun you.

Even funnier when Auto Aim is on, because they truely are sitting ducks.

Yup, always go for the driver first. I've had time where when I killed the driver and the car kept coming towards me and I got ran over by a ghost car.

I remember once I locked onto the driver who pulled up with a guy riding shotgun. I shot at the driver, killing the guy riding shotgun inadvertently.
