Davo the Assassin
But, a referee is as crucial to any sport as any of the players. Basically this thread is for anyone who has received training in, or just regularly referees any kind of sport seriously. Training to become a football referee, should be doing my first game next week. Im scared sh*tless too be honest, but I am also looking forward to it alot. How about you guys? Seddo
I've never really thought about referring before, but to be honest i'd rather be playing the game than reffing one. So what age range are you reffing?.
Davo the Assassin
I'll be refereeing 17 and below, so basically the easy and the awkward. At 11's and 12's, no one cares, at 16-17 if your not careful you'll find yourself un-concious from some players. I've never been one for playing football, but a friend asked if I fancied becoming a referee, too which I agreed. I mean, it even pays not too badly. 10-15 quid a match, can't complain. Seddo
So do you have to pay for this ref training or is it free and how many lessons does it take to be able to ref at your current level?.
EasyTiger
I was thinking of becoming a ref just to give every decision against Manchester United when I finally got to the prem. What a f*cking climax that would be.
Hodgey.
Who's the bastard in the black, who's the bastard in the black? Oh wait thats you Davo the Assassin. Ive never thought about becoming a ref before and its something that i wouldnt like to do. In a sense you hold more pressure than players because if you make a bad choice you could deterime the outcome of a game and wreck peoples dreams. No pressure then Davo. Davo the Assassin
Oh yes, I know, I'll try my hardest not to ruin too many dreams, haha. Erm, its around 60 quid, but its refundable at 30 on completetion of the course, then you make back the rest doing matches, 6 of which you HAVE to do to pass the course, along with an exam. And everyone may hate the referee, but on a serious level football would be f*cked without them, haha.
Stefan.
I refereed the match between students and teachers at our school once, which was considered to be a pretty big match to some extent, with about 500 people watching and a lot of good players. It's a pity that they were stupid enough not to give me any linesmen, so I had to pay even more attention to everything. 'Twas difficult and I got a few nasty comments (mostly from teachers ) but I enjoyed it, and I found that it's better exercise than playing lol (I ended up running more than when I usually play and I'm a left-winger). Nonetheless good luck with your course.
Davo the Assassin
Well, just refereed my second match today. No 'The Referee's a wanker' yelled at me yet. However, I did make a call today that was un-popular and resulted in an equaliser, but my word's final . You'd be surprised just how much hard work it is... Yet that said, Im loving it so far, and at a tenner a match, I anit gonna complain. Perhaps you'll see me in the big leagues in future... Then I'll have 'The Referee's a wanker' shouted at me no doubt. Oh, and I passed the exam I needed to become qualified, so Im almost there, only 4 more matches to referee, then i get my badge. Runey
Just remember this, no matter what decision a referee makes, someone is bound to not like it.

Awesome. What league you going to get into once you get your badge? Yeah, I found that refereeing makes you run more, because you have to constantly be near the ball.
