Steve Crook
Can you derail a train? Not by going too fast either but by putting something on the track that will make it derail. I tried putting a Packer on the track just as it goes into the tunnel at the NE of LS. I had it so that the Packer was hard against the tunnel entrance so that it couldn't be pushed out of the way. It was angled so that the bottom of the ramp was over the track and I thought that if anything could, then this might cause a train to be derailed. I chose the easternmost track because when I'd just recently done the train driving mission, as I'd come out of that tunnel going south, I was on the westernmost track. And as I drove the Packer up to the tunnel I saw that another train heading south was on the westernmost track. So I had my trap set, and I waited... and waited ... a goods train came out of the tunnel, heading south, on the westernmost track. So I waited a bit more, waiting for the next northbound train and I waited ... Eventually a northbound train did appear. But it was on the westernmost track so it missed the Packer!! Has anyone ever tried anything like that? Steve
radicell
Have you tried using a coach? I suspect that the vehicle will just "bounce" out of the way though.
Jolly_good_pie
If they both hit the truck, going opposite way each, i guarantee you that you will just teleport to a random spot in San Andreas
Steve Crook
Have you tried using a coach? I suspect that the vehicle will just "bounce" out of the way though. That's why I jammed it up against the tunnel entrance, so that it couldn't just be knocked out of the way. The Brown Streak train has what looks like a cow-catcher at the front. That will move most vehicles out of the way This was how I had it set up (click for full size) Steve

Many a times, a colliding vehicle gets merged with the train, even explodes but the train remains unscathed.
!!GC!!
No need for the double-post, Steve. Make it so that the Packer/Coach is perpendicular to the tracks right at the entrance to the tunnel. South-bound trains will knock it out of the way, but, North-bound trains should have a hard time getting through. I've always meant to do this myself, but have never, ever gotten around to it. This time I had just done the train driver mission and during that my train had hit one car squarely on the side and had carried it for some distance before it slipped off to one side. So I wondered what would happen if the irresistible force met the immovable object Steve
Blizzard14
everytime ive tried to block a train the train just went troughthe vehicle It went through? Like as a ghost? Hmmm..Weird. Maybe R* thought that someone might try this so they just made it impossible to do that so they made it that the train just passes through the vehicle? Q.Q. whats that shirt you are wearing in the picture Steve?
!!GC!!
Ok, i have just tried it myself just now. I set up the Packer perpendicular to the tracks, hard against the tunnel and waited. 2 trains came from the North, both pushing me out of the way. 15 minutes later, a North-bound train came through. All it did was push me through the tunnel. The left side of the tunnel seemed non-solid as i was pushed through. Anyway, epic fail.

Forcefield
I thought trains, either direction, only ever appeared on the westernmost track anyway, ie never on the easternmost, apart from WSOTT and Snail Trail.

Silly me, just because I saw a train going southbound on the westernmost track, expecting the northbound one to be on the other track There are a few places where the two tracks merge into one. The tunnel in eastern LV and up by Millie's house. It might be worth trying something there. At least you could be sure which track it would be on as there's only one track. You just have to hope that the next train is going in the right direction. Has anyone ever worked out the full train timetable? Although what !!GameCH33TA!! found means that it doesn't bode well Steve
!!GC!!
Although what !!GameCH33TA!! found means that it doesn't bode well Dont take my word though. You should try it yourself. It could be that it was just a one time thing because i was too bored to wait for another, or it could be that, that tunnel isn't the best place to conduct it. Chargr
The only way you can derail a train is by driving it fast nonstop, eventually it will derail.
phu303
too bad this doesnt work. i tried putting several busses at a tunnel entrance which would have blocked the train.. but the train just went thru the busses. dejm.

spaceeinstein
The trains on the tracks doesn't follow the basic laws of game physics. The trains will always follow a set path no matter what you do to it. Some of you have done the missions involving trains moving on the never-used opposite track. When you follow those special trains to Cranberry Station, the train just jump the track and floats straight toward the starting point. It bypasses objects and defies gravity. So it's pointless to try to derail it just by blocking it.

punknoodle
Yeah its probably never gonna happen...but its sure fun to try! I used to like to park a Bus or a Firetruck on the tracks in the big open area before the tunnel entrance going north (in LS) just NW of Ganton...pull up a lawn chair, wait for a train, and watch the vehicles fly. So now I tried jamming a Bus once and a Packer once "in between the pillars or columns" (vertical posts) that hold up the ped overpass/walkway thing at the basketball end of that open area...meaning "both" ends of the vehicles had a post on either side... Didnt slow the train down at all. Fun tho! It pushed it out of the way.
"D-Generation-X"
My Brother made one fly before. It went way above the Game's ceiling. On the streets of Mulholland, Los Santos, He spawned 14 Hydras which all created a Road block. And yes Trains can derail. Try activating the Freight missions and watch the speed meter. Yes, that's why the title of this thread included "Not by going too fast" You don't get a very spectacular crash when you derail them by going too fast though. You just fail the train driver mission Steve
