Hart
Right, I let my mic wire get really tangled up, but now I've un-wravelled most of it, but its still curly. Now my mic doesnt work, but I can still hear sounds through my headset, just the mic has stopped working. In my Control Panel it says its still working, and when I try Test Microphone in Steam, I hear a muffle then I cant say anything. It could be due to the crappiness of my headset, a Advent 52NCV. I tried Goggling to no luck. Any help? PS. I checked if it was muted, it wasnt.
Jim
This just sounds like the wiring of the microphone has gone bad. I honestly wouldn't know anything about that, but if your mic was working before that, that's what I would assume it was. You just might be SOL. Wolf68k
You didn't mention what OS, so the follow is for XP....I have no idea about Vista. Start in the sound system controls. Double click the speaker icon in the system tray. Click Options, if there is one called Advanced Controls make sure it's checked. The titlebar should say Play Control, if you see a slider marked microphone it normally should be muted, unmute it for now and talk. You should hear yourself over your speakers. Move the slider up if need be. There should also be an Advanced button with the mic's slider click it and make sure microphone booster is checked. Now lower the mic's slider, just in case for the next part Next click Options->Properties Select Recording, look in the area below and make sure Microphone is checked then click ok. The titlebar changed to say Recording Control. Find the mic's slider here and make sure it's turned up. Also make sure the box Select is checked for it. Go back to the Play Controls (you can double click the speaker icon again and get a second set of play controls) and move the mic slider up there if need be. If after all of that you're still not getting any sound, then I'd say our mic is hosed. You might also want to double make sure you have the mic plugged into the right port. You'd be surprised how many people sure that up even if the ports and plugs are color coded these days.
