Well since I binned my xbrick I have no hype for the DLC. I don't think I would have even bothered with the DLC if I had even kept the console. I am not a big fan of this DLC crap and I would much rather Rockstar concentrate on the next GTA game.

rockstar were giving me the immpression that there will be no new GTA's and that IV was the basis for the continuation of it slowly expanding it into an MMO, Depending on how the multiplayer side of it panned out.

and this would make sense as well judging by the fact that rockstar have said the next franchise will be PS3 exclusive, wich is another reason i think why the DLC is not comnig to the PS3.

Erm can I have a link to that please because I have never seen or heard anything except fanboys claim it is going to be PS3 exclusive. If you really think Rockstar are going to kill off nearly 5 million customers on the Xbox 360 you are surely mistaken. I suppose it won't be coming to the PC then either which means a further 2 million customers lost.

There will be another GTA it will come out on the 360 and PS3 and later the PC and it has now been delayed by nearly another year because of this pain in the arse DLC.

PS3 gets exclusive rights to next Rockstar franchise

by Doug Osborne posted on July 30, 2007 2:36 pm

Sony appears to be placing a huge bet on Rockstar Games by securing its next franchise exclusively for the PlayStation 3. As good as this sounds, however, can the PS3 afford what Sony gave up to get the new franchise?

The announcement of the Sony/Rockstar agreement was made in a blog posting from Michael Shorrock, SCEA Director of 3rd Party Relations. In it, Shorrock said, “As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios.”

Surprisingly, it appears Sony may have given up a sure thing to get a not-so-sure thing. In a recent episode of the television show Game Head, SCEA CEO and President Jack Tretton was quoted as saying the PS3 exclusive rights for Rockstar’s next great franchise was secured, “In exchange for letting them out of [the Grand Theft Auto IV] exclusive.

Can the next Rockstar franchise make up for losing GTA IV as a PS3 exclusive? Probably not, but having games exclusive to the PS3 is what the Sony console desperately needs right now to drive sales. So, at least some exclusives are better than none it would seem.

Subscription Based GTA "Very Doable, Very Compelling"

By Michael McWhertor, 6:40 PM on Tue Apr 22 2008, 5,140 views

Grand Theft Auto, the massively multiplayer version, seems like an inevitability. With downloadable content coming for the Xbox 360 version and a game so stuffed with data that it pushes DVD size limitations, an MMO take on the game with digitally delivered content sounds like the next logical step. Sam Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar Games, agrees, telling EGM/1UP that "a subscription-based Grand Theft Auto-type game...is very, very doable and is a very, very compelling proposition."

Obviously, there's a challenge in redefining MMO convention, with (literal) rat killing and pelt gathering an odd fit for a modern day cops and robbers setting.

But it sure sounds like the Housers are into it, with "the combination of what we're doing with multiplayer and what we're doing with the [downloadable XB360] episodes is the start of us putting our toes in this water and seeing how our audience...adapts to online."

Grand Theft Auto V or GTA Online, whatever it may be called, could be a late entry into the game. Other developers are already taking a stab at it, with Realtime Worlds' APB and SOE's The Agency already gunning for a modern day subscription based game, without all the wizardry and orc-ery. Can't say we're not tempted by the prospect, though.

I hope this answers a few of your questions....

You'll buy the 360 exclusives, or you're a bigger dork then I think you are already!! nervous.gifnotify.gifsarcasm.giftounge2.gif

lol

i would but if it is just new missions i might pass until they decide to give us back the full gta experience, And im affraid by the recent interview saying for gamers to not exspect to much of this DLC, im kinda dissapointed at the moment. Exspecially with the comments made by dan houser about were going to change the way people look at DLC.

Thanks for the links Oysterbarron, I still have my doubts about all this "exclusivity" crap. I remember when LA Noire was being lauded about because it was a PS3 exclusive and we all know how that ended up. However it is a new game so I can't see how that would effect the GTA franchise.

There is no indication that the GTA franchise will go exclusive to any format again any time soon. In fact the reason why we are having to deal with this DLC crap now is because GTA cannot afford to go exclusively to one console.

If memory serves GTA 4 cost close to $100 million to make Rockstar knew that it would need sales from the 360, PS3 and PC to recover costs from this game so it was impossible to offer exclusivity to any console. Instead they came up with this half arsed "mini-expansion" DLC which they offered to MS for $50 million

I personally believe there will be another GTA this generation and it will be on all three formats. But I feel the next GTA is being delayed because of this DLC. I would much rather they dumped it and got on with making the next GTA game but they can't do that because they are contractually obliged to do the DLC for the xbox 360.

Well, Oyster is Incorrect thinking IV is the last GTA, read Dan Houser's interview I mentioned, he discusses that modus operandi for Rockstar in terms of hardware development, and it's good enough for me!

Recall Mr Sam Houser when he said it would take the form of someone coming up requiring Niko's help, a ped on the streets of Liberty. It would merge with the environment and yeah, it may appear like a mission pack to you... however speculation around the cost to MS($) suggest it will entail quite a bit of things to do... as I suspect.

yeah it may be one of the things, The only thing i will say about that quote slamman is that he actually said about one of the random character missions that was included in GTAIV.

thinking about it now though one of my other therioes is that they had coded all the DLC into the game by october 2007 to make sure there was no compatibility issues when added to the main GTAIV game. Then they delayed the Game 6months to remove the DLC and perhaps going by that recall you had left the random character missions in and took something else out that they wanted to keep for the DLC

I think at that point, they were asking him about how DLC will work, not the random characters in the game, because Sam was not asked about those, but it's one of the ways they utilize mechanics that are already infused, in other words, less programming because it's not the same as a complete new game.... the DLC I am referring to.

One of the things they are adament about is cost value... so if users ultimately feel the value isn't there, then Rockstar are going to take a hit. I think it's fine for them to take their time then, to make sure it's good, and right.

EDIT>

I got the issue I am referring back to, right here, it's EGM's exclusive cover story. I know not much of DLC was known at this point so I'll take a refresher and re-read this article, dated; April 08/ issue 227

WelcomeToLibertyCity

With all the delaying and stuff going on, I'm hoping the DLC will be epic. If it's a random encounter or mssion expansion I'll be pissed.. Unless the encounter is with a past GTA protagonist (Like that would ever happen) tounge.gif Could you imagine though? Claude Speed ushering you over to the side of the street to do a task for you...

Are you planning to meet up with Claude in his outfit (Playboy X's wardrobe?)

EDIT, maybe this was another story I recall, I see a lot more discussion of MP with regard to future online play, however, Rockstar seems to be seriously playing with the online MP for the PC release, etc.

i read the article on the net, And he said that DLC could be random chracter missions for example you approach a bloke on the street and he asks you to spy on his wife and take pictures of her supposedly cheating, i read it a month ago and was like well that random character mission is allready in the game because i only did it like the week before reading the article.

Well, not the same thing I read, as I recall it. I know that's a side mission IN the game, of course. But I do think the DLC will utilize ALL of Liberty City in the same manner all the missions are orchestrated around it in basic game builds for single player. There won't be a world apart between them, in the same way MP online is seperated from single player. I would say that elements could be used more then once in a way that's not boring, so as to get your money's worth as well.

I hope you're wrong... there has to be another, and it better not be a PS exlusive. I waited a long ass time to get GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas for the Xbox. I don't care if PS gets extra stuff, but R* better put out the next games for both.

As for the DLC, I'm not getting it until I find out what it offers, and if it's worth it. Either way, the game is good enough as it is.

AHA! You are wrong. It says Sony wants to have Rockstar's next franchise exclusive for PS3. Keywords: "next franchise". What your article post is saying that whatever new series R* makes will be exclusive; GTA is it's own franchise, so Sony will be getting some other exclusive series, but not GTA. As for the second article... didn't care enough to read it.
