Dear x Sergio
20 gig hdd I've noticed almost no change on any account after installing it, barring loading time. The pop-ins haven't improved or worsened at all, and the framerate always fluctuated with numerous vehicles/exlposions around. The main loading time is like 10 seconds shorter, and it runs quieter and more efficiently for your xbox. I'd recommend it but apparantly you may run into some pop-in problems. Magic_Al
The main loading time was faster for me once I've installed it to my HDD. However, the pop-ins are considerably worse since I did this. I still don't understand how that makes any sense - shouldn't there be less pop-in? Bungie suggests not installing Halo 3 to the HDD. Here is a link that explains their reason: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/bungie-j...tall-of-halo-3/ So, perhaps that reason, or something similar to that reason is why GTA IV has more pop up when installed to the HDD. I had installed the game to the HDD along with Midnight Club: LA. I have since un-installed each one, as they didn't perform better for me. I couldn't even drive more than 5 blocks without any texture and pop up issues. It was annoying. I'd hesitate to use Halo 3 as a comparison only because it's an in-house Xbox 360-exclusive title. We don't know if Rockstar would approach their code the same way when they're thinking about their three destinations of 360, PS3, and PC. Anyway, it's reasonable to assume HDD installs might defeat speed optimization in code designed with only DVD playback in mind. Only Rockstar knows for sure. Personally, I'm sure game performance has NOT improved, but load-screen times have improved a lot. If pop-in is worse, it's not worse enough to make me think HDD install was a bad choice for me. Reduction in noise and wear and tear is worth a lot! A hopeful idea: because the DLC obviously requires the HDD, perhaps Rockstar will improve the optimization of the whole game for HDD playback at the same time. They should, since NXE will be old news by February. Maybe that's why the DLC is coming out in February instead of fall, because maybe NXE knocked it back. GoldenJoel
Ya'll wouldn't even need this if ya just bought a PS3 to begin with. I'd like to play more then Talladega Nights on blu-ray, thank you.
Lord Illicious
Ugh, I just installed it, and THERE IS MORE POP UP then ever. I completely regret installing this sh*t. I think I might uninstall, its just a waste of space on my hard drive. I was looking forward to this great move by MS but how is there still popups if the game is running from a HDD? They should be a significant reduction of popups unless a few things: 1) Frequent disk reference checks which continues to revalidate the authenticity of the game. 2) Lower HDD bandwidth that the disk. (don't even think this is possible). 3) Game wasnt coded to take advantage of a HDD. Capped disk cache info thus capped HDD info retrieval. I think its 3. Youll get faster loading times (upload/read stable info for memory) but the dynamic memory cycles at the the same speed as it would for the disk. I really dont know why even this would happen but the only explanation i would guess is that the game is coded with a strict cap. Unless im wrong, maybe a new Dashboard would overrule the cap but if not then RS would have to add a tricky patch that determines if your running the game on a disk or by the HDD. UnitedDestruction
Just installed it last night and decided to drop by here to see if anyone else had noticed increased pop-in. Aside from the increased pop-in it's great, no jet-engine DVD drive whirring constantly, etc... I think I may uninstall it though and live with the noise so that pop-in isn't so damn noticeable. 13.7GB HDD by the way. On a side note: Lower your f*cking HDD prices Microsoft edit- just uninstalled it, hopefully the next gta will take advantage of this haha Edited November 25, 2008 by UnitedDestruction
OysterBarron
well ther going to have to sort it out if the DLC is going to be running from the HDD
nlitement
Ya'll wouldn't even need this if ya just bought a PS3 to begin with. Yeah, you wouldn't need to install it on the HDD with the PS3 because the new PS3 firmware notoriously slows down GTA IV. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Idiots. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Idiots. Thats bullsh*t. Theres no lag in my game and definitely nothing "notoriously" going on. Also, its not the firmwware you should be referring to, its the RS 1.04 patch update.
