It's that time of year again...

Well, in the USA anyways. Not sure about everywhere else but the Friday after Thanksgiving here in the USA is called Black Friday (November 28th, this year). Not sure why it's black, but what it is, is a day where most major retailers make tons of great deals on products, and it's THE busiest shopping day of the year over here.

Just wondering, anyone have plans to go out? Ads are getting leaked or released already, so it's time to start planning! This site is good for finding out ads when they are released and email you when new ones are out (no spam either, just straight from them about new ads):

http://www.blackfriday.info/

I personally was planning on hitting up Best Buy yet again, buuuuut... they're deals SUCK. Nothing worth it. The lowest decent sized HDTV is hardly a steal at $400, and it's for a 32inch LCD Dynex. Leary about buying an in-house brand TV in the first place, and it's only $50 less than you can pay online for it currently. The next cheapest one is yet another Dynex, 42" plasma for $600, only $100 less than online price. BS.

And I was hoping there'd be a netbook on there but no, nothing. The best laptop deal would probably be the Toshiba with the Athlon X2 and 3GB RAM for $379, but I want a netbook. Even if the netbook was only $50 I'd still go for it as I've been wanting one for a bit.

There's been speculation that the ad released is either (A) From Wisconsin where they've got some kind of law against huge sales like this (B) It doesn't include some great secret deals (I guess BB is known for that?) or © it's completely fake or just made to throw us off, or (D) It's just a sh*tty, sh*tty sale.

Hopefully it's A or C, imo. B would be ok, but I doubt any secret deals would benefit me, they're probably be something I don't want. I'm betting that it's D, which sucks balls.

Oh, and to clear up why I'm so set on Best Buy, I've got a credit card there and no cash, so I'm stuck with them!

I’m not shopping on black Friday. I went to the mall last year, and it took me an hour to travel a half mile in this road that connects the two malls my local area has that are ½ mile away from each other. I plan to scale back on buying stuff for Christmas, as well, anyway. I don't want to get anything, I don't want to give anything.

Well the traffic wasn't bad when I went out. When I got to the store at 11pm (they opened at 5am) I was about 100 people back in line, so it was crowded as hell INSIDE the store.

I wouldn't wait outside as long this year unless a friend or brother went with me though, that's for sure. I talked to strangers but... well they're strangers! I'll also wear about 5 pairs of socks, night pants under my jeans, and several shirts, and several gloves if the weather is anything like last years.

Don't get me wrong, last year had some pretty decent sales, saved about $400 on stuff total. But 6 hours in sub freezing temperatures with a bunch of other losers... meh. Not sure if it was worth it.

As for not giving, same here, but I WANT tons of stuff tounge2.gif

But I know I won't, it's going to be the lamest Christmas for me ever. But oh well, I understand no one in my family has extra cash this time around.

THE busiest shopping day of the year over here.

Even more than Christmas Eve?

But we dont (Or at least I think) have this Black Friday, seems a bit pointless to be honest.

Yep, even busier. By then everything is sold out anyways. It's probably a very busy day anyways, but good luck finding anything good.

I never really liked waking up at 3 to stand in line to get cheap sh*t from Target. This year though, we are going to Best Buy, and pick up (hopefully) a new TV, some movies, and maybe a second monitor. However, we will probably need to get out there at midnight to get anything good, which I don't want to do, maybe 1 AM, but not all night.

We don't have Black Friday, mainly because we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, you know being English and all. And even though I'm in the US for Thanksgiving I won't be celebrating it with my family. Although we are having a meal like it before the 27th. And no going shopping for me, I couldn't be able to deal with the amount of people that would be around.

Gotta love Black Friday. I've never actually been in USA in time for Black Friday, but I heard about it before. It's gotta rock, a whole day with like, awesome offers and stuff like that.

Sucks that we don't have it here in Denmark sad.gif.

Well, it's only awesome if you can hit everybody out of your way, and be real aggressive with a "f*ck you" attitude.

Some good deals. The notebooks seem good.

And just to let you know, the sales listed there on the site aren't all of them.

Oh God, Black Friday is going to be hell. I gotta work the Night before then and since I do stocking...AT TOYS R US It's going to be extremely stupid. We have to finish before 4 am because that's when the store opens. But that night will be sweet cause the shelves will be practically empty.

My mom and my older sister wake up at like 5am every year for this. wow.gif

Me, I'm broke so I won't bother. People get crazy on that day too, lots of crowds.

And just FYI, Mervyns is going out of business and almost everything in the store is at least 30% off already. smile.gif

Black Friday is crazy here in Wisconsin.

I work at Menards (Department Store) and it is horrible here. Last year I worked a 4:00 am shift and there was a line two blocks from the store. Fist fights broke out because people kept cutting the lines. The things people do for shopping is insane and ruthless.

Thanks for posting this topic Picolini. I was looking forward to some good deals at Best Buy, but nothing looked promising. confused.gif

If you have any disposable income in this day and age it's borrowed, and you're going to pay for it eventually.

I think there's going to be a lot of disappointed kiddies this Christmas, and they'll have to get used to it.

I'd rather not save money and not freeze my ass off for 6 hours like the broke-ass fools that do.

Why exactly is Slamman using Picolini's account?

Whoa man!!! No way... just that these deals are awesome. Like that sweet Dell laptop from 1992 I picked up than ran Windows 3.1! Of course the hard drive was only 256MB. I just love GTA and ALWAYS will. It will never change. I'm not here for the haters, just for GTA!!! colgate.gif

Anyways, from what I've heard this year is supposed to have the best deals in a long time... haven't looked at any other places besides BB's so I couldn't say if it's true or not.

@Desmo, how cold can it be in Texas? A whole 50*F?? Oh man.

f*ck no. The traffic here is worse on Black Friday than it is on a regular work day. Not just that, if you plan on parking, think again.

Play it simple, shop online.

I don't get the fuss about traffic, of course I'm not in a cramped city. I'm sure it'd be a lot worse in somewhere like Chicago. But even the large suburbs around here aren't that bad. I'd say at most you'd spend an extra 15 minutes on a 30 minute drive. And parking, a little extra walking never hurt anyone! Of course even a place like Woodfield Mall (one of the largest malls in the US, about 20 minutes from here) will be entirely full and you'll have to walk a good 10 minutes to just get in the mall from some spots.

It can actually get pretty bad. It's quite a jam when you have a ton of cars going in and out of the parking lots at a time. So, if you are trying to get somewhere that doesn't involve shopping at a mall, you should just avoid areas containing malls; especially roads that intersect exiting parking lot traffic. People tend to drive like jackasses trying to get out of the parking lots.

Here in Canada we have a similar day called "Boxing day"

I thought boxing day was on the 26th of December (the day after Christmas) and the last time I checked, there weren't many shops open on that day (atleast not here in the UK anyways) notify.gif

Yeah, that's why I said a "similar day" and a lot of shops are open here on Boxing day, I bet I'll be upgrading my PC on that day.

It's all just a f*cking gimmick. Oh wow, you save a few dollars on what? Would it be worth the time you spend in traffic and all the crowds of people going around you. I see it is just another hyped thing by the media, to get people to spend their money on so called 'sales' or 'bargains'. I will be staying home with my family and enjoying my break.

As I said in the other thread, I'll be working at Best Buy from 12:30pm to 10:30pm.

Let the day of crazy pissed off consumers commence.

I plan on painting the devil on the wall.

10 bucks if you get it without looking it up.

Seriously, though, fortunately I really don't have to deal with Black Friday working in retail or having to go out and get stuff for people. People know damn well I'm not getting them sh*t but a card. However, I did see on Kotaku an ad for a 360 where the image of the 360 was flipped upside down, standing on the hard drive.

The only thing I'm really worried about is that I work at a supermarket. But I don't think it'll be worse than Thanksgiving since for some f*ck-O reason we're open that day. That is gonna be hell day for me this week, that's for sure.

Metal up your ass!

It's the worst pseudo-holiday ever. It really brings out the evil in people. Is it really worth trampling someone to death, to get that Wii? Do you really want to be packed into a shopping mall like cattle?

I hate going to shopping malls on black Friday. I just get bad vibes from everyone, and when you pack a thousand people into a store and everybody is angry and frustrated, it seems like the walls are dripping with all the worst that humanity has to offer. You get the feeling that a seemingly benign situation can turn bad real quick.

Thankfully, I've already gotten all my Christmas shopping done, through ordering online.

I wouldn't even call it a pseudo-holiday, it's more of an event.

And it sure does bring out the evil in people.

I for one am NOT going to be going out this year, as the leaked deals for Best Buy seem to be the actual ones. Wow, nothing worth waiting outside for, that's for sure. Not even going later in the day for in hopes there's something left. Not for me at least.

Instead I'll be at work calling people from 9 in the f*cking morning untill 5 at night instead of the usual evening schedule because some how my boss thinks more people will be home in the morning instead of out shopping and spending money on things they actually want.
