%300?????

f*ck me that's outrageous. I thought my %28 card was balls.

Why the f*ck would you have a card with 28%?!?! I automatically discard offers in the mail for anything that's 20% and up. I'm currently enjoying 0% and 13.9%

i just dont get it. why the hell would you want to pay something with credit card

when it costs more than buying it with cash or the bank card.

It costs more? Says who? Half of you f*cking morons have no idea at all how credit works and how important it is and you just pull sh*t out of your asses that your stupid parents and counselors have told you about credit cards. Then again, you're all 12 so your opinions are null for idiocy. In which case, I'm going to redirect all of you to my first post.

Yeah, I have a credit card. Actually, I have three of them. I use them for anything. Cigarettes. Gas. Food. Clothes. Shoes. Whatever. And I don't pay them off each month, but I do pay a large portion of the balance on each.

Credit is the most important thing you can have in this country (USA). Without it, good luck financing a new car, getting a real job (i.e. not Burger King), getting a mortgage, moving into an apartment, having a low interest rate on loans, etc.

And you can use the cards like a fool just as long as you know that soon enough you'll be able to pay it off or come the end of the month you'll be able to pay down a hefty portion of it.

M

It only costs more if you pay the minimum balance on a charge to fill up your gas tank over a 36 month period. Most cards over a one-month grace period, meaning that if you pay off your balance withing a month they don't charge you any interest. Not only that, but a lot of cards also offer 0% interest for 6 months, which means that you don't pay sh*t in interest for six months, for you imbeciles. Say today is Monday, you get paid on Friday, and you want a TV right now. Put it on credit and pay it off later. Beats waiting.

Really, I don't care what you idiots do. Pay cash. It'll get you nowhere and you'll all end up like Slamman with two cars that don't work because you couldn't get a loan to buy a decent car because the credit bureaus don't know you exist and living in a box because you got denied for a new apartment for not having any established credit.

It's easier to just get a loan.

You silly Americans and your credit .

Loans are usually dealing with thousands of dollars or more. And you will always pay interest. Credit cards can be paid before interest is applied, are for far less amounts, or individual amounts.

People like you must be running our banks right now, because apparently you too believe that we should give money to people who never should have gotten more than a nickel in the first place. When I first started managing my credit, I couldn't get a line of more than $500 without a cosigner and an outrageous interest rate. Now I could finance a $10000 bike by myself with a 6.5% interest rate.

It helps to have a few family members working for the bank, but it still took 7 years hard work and responsible money managing to make it happen.

Woah, I'm glad it doesn't work that way over here cry.gif

I don't have a credit card, I'll pay with money I actually have, thank you very much. The only loan I'll probably ever need is a mortgage. If I can't afford the latest gadgets, I can do without them.

I don't have a credit card because one, I can't trust myself with money. I'll spend it all and I wont be able to give it back and 2, I don't know how they work, so I'm staying away.

So in your country, people without a history of repaying loans on time are instantly given large amounts of money to buy a house?

f*ck, I need to move to your country, take out dozens of mortgages, and party like hell for two months.

I don't know about his country, but here your credit rating is not just based around usage of credit cards, but also your history of paying bills. Because the phone, internet, power and gas accounts are in my name, and have all been paid on time since I opened them, I can apply for some ridiculously high loans.

the all seeing eye

I have a HSBC Solo card, just for my money, I dont want Credit. Cause I know if i have it i will use the f*ck out of it. I find it very hard to save money, but if I put it in the bank its like I forget about it.

I remember a year or 2 ago i was putting like £5 a week into it, completely forgot about my card and a few weeks back got a statement saying there was about £350 in it, MY EYE'S f*ckING EXPLODED. £350 is a lot of money to a 15 year old. I have been wanting a PS3 for qutie some time now, and now that I have a part time job aswell I will keep adding to my account,so I can buy a good gaming setup!

It's all quite wierd though, when I was seven my great grandma died, she left me £200 in my young saver account. My mum's boyfriend at the time was a right bastard, He stormed off one night and never came back, the next week i get a statement from my back saying there was £1 in it!

He had all my details, 'cos I was only young

MOTHER f*ckER

Oh well, got it back now =-]

Ok, I'll need your credit card information, your personal information and all that, I need to save the world from evil robots which can transform in to a spoon.

If I had one Id probably be in twat loads of debt.

As soon as I get money I feel like I have to buy something. A credit card would only add to my problem.

That said, I am almost certainly going to get one in the future.

I've had a credit card for two years. I only use it for gas and occasionally some little things if I'm pressed for cash.

This month is the first month I'm not paying off my balance in full and I'm kind of freaked out by that. I've heard of some people that are 20 like me and are $2,000 in debt to the bank due to spending more than they make. I'm nowhere near that bad, but still.

To be honest, the idea of "establishing credit" has always been confusing to me. To establish good credit you should keep a balance on your account but always pay it off, right? Or is it good to simply have a balance and pay most of it? My best friend bought $12,000 car and will be paying that off for a while. He says that on its own will get him good credit. Is that true?

You can get good credit by having a balance on a card that isn't too close to the maximum and by making at least the minimum monthly payment on time each month. That's it. You don't have to pay off half or the entire thing, just making the minimum can get you points. Also having an installment account (like a car note) actually boosts your score because it shows the crediting agencies that you're a responsible borrower when it comes to large amounts of money (for example: a $12,000 car).

I gotta agree with Mikal here.

If you've got no self control, you need not apply. Spend within your budget and there's nothing wrong in using credit cards, hell it's actually beneficial. If you timing it right, even without 0% for however long, you usually find you incur absolutely minimal or no charges at all. In the process of using the cards, you're making yourself a financial history of borrowing money, within your limit, and paying it back at some point. You're increasing your credit rating. When the times comes for mortgages etc....who are they more likely to hand the money to? Some guy who has never used a credit card and thus has no history according to the lenders, or someone who's been borrowing and budgeting for years, and shown to be responsible with their cash?

Agreed also, but it's so easy for some to fall down the rabbit hole of debt, especially when it feels like you're spending nothing at all on things you don't really need. A few visits on Amazon will really burn a hole in your wallet when it comes to using a credit card. I don't have one for this reason; I have trouble saving money that's actually mine.

If you've got a decent income and have some sense then I wouldn't worry.

As Mikal said, nothing wrong with only paying the minimum if you're feeling the pinch one month. Just economise to work that back before you get raped by the interest rate.

Mines a typical Barclaycard, 14.9% jobbie. They spammed me into submission into getting one considering I'm with their bank anyway. Looked into it, figured why the hell not, it's pretty flexible in what you can do. I don't use it that often I must admit. Will use it to buy some PC parts soon. Once I've saved a bit more I'll probably use it to partly buy me a motorbike too. Got the limit about twice over, but I'd be raped by by interest.

It would be dangerous for someone like me I feel, living off a student loan. I'd never work my way out.

I have one. Low ass limit on it, but have hidden it and am trying to pay it back. I got it for a vacation and then it was handy for some bills, gifts, etc. They are good to have and once I pay it off, I'll get it back but I'll be smarter with it.
