I don't have a Credit Card, I don't plan on getting one either. I don't like the idea of spending money I don't have.

I've got one, since I live away from home, and I don't make enough money yet to support myself. Mum puts my weekly allowance and I just withdraw what I need.

I've got a debit card and it works just like a credit card, but is much safer, in my opinion. I don't plan on ever getting a credit card ... don't need it.

Yea because its your money, not credit, duh. tounge.gif

I don't have one right now but I probably will later. Though I do have a debit card with like $500 on it.

It's amazing how few people know what a f*cking credit card is.

Debit Card = Your money, just because it looks shiny, does not mean it's a credit card.

Credit Card = Loaned money paid back in interest. Exact f*cking opposite of a debit card.

Yeah, I know the difference. Debit comes straight out of your bank account. That's what I meant by saying it's safer. I just feel, if I get my hands on a credit card, that there is a chance I might get carried away with it. I fail at saving.

@Tuff Luv Capo: Was your clarification posted because you thought I didn't know the difference?

If that was the case, I think you two misunderstood why I stated it worked the same way. I meant charging the card worked the same way.

Every one who has said they have a debit card and will stick with them has explained how they understand it is only their money and not a credit card.

Yeah I have credit card with a ridiculous $5,000 limit. The bank sent me one of those "pre-approved!" things with a $1,000 limit, and then after I sent in for it it came as $5,000 (just hoping I was a tard who'd blow more cash). I've used it like once or twice in a year pretty much, and that was paying off tuition fees, and I payed it back right away. Now I'll only use it for online purcahses, and I always have the money to pay it back right away in my bank account. I'll never let it incur any interest... f*ck that. I always have the cash to pay for the sh*t, but I figure for some big purchases, I might as well rack up some good credit.

It's sad that it seems all my friend's are in some sort of credit card debt. Either owing a lot, or just making the minimum every month and being maxed, and never really getting anywhere... I could NEVER be like that... man... But I should add I'm cheap as f*ck. tounge.gif

Every one who has said they have a debit card and will stick with them has explained how they understand it is only their money and not a credit card.

Which has nothing to do with the topic. If the question was, "Are you a night person?" and you answered yes because you like bats and bats are night-animals, you're dangerously off-target of what this is about.

You can use a debit card like a credit card in that you swipe them the same, but they are totally different animals. That's like saying that because you have a gift certificate for walmart, that swipes and keeps a balance, you basically have a credit card.

I think a lot of people are saying yes because they're kids and it sounds cooler to have a credit card.

@ Vicehog- The questions is, "Do you have a credit card?" Not "Do you have a something that mechanically works like a credit card, but is not?"

I heard there's quite a few hidden costs with 'em, some kid said they can charge you higher price if you pay by credit, which is what the entire brit population does

Then of course there's, redlining in which case i'm unlikely to get accepted... maybe in the future, but most probably not

PS: this is a mind numbingly boring subject to discuss yawn.gif

Because it's credit. Not debit. A credit card is effectively a pre-arranged loan which can be used to buy goods (or to get hold of cash but to a lesser extent). It's the same reason you might want a loan. Can't afford to buy that £20k car? Get it on finance....just a credit card penalises you a bit more than your typical 0% interest deals.

If you're intelligent enough you can juggle your debts around and pay very little interest. It's all about timing and making sure you've got a good balance transfer charge.

Yes, I understood why you misunderstood what I said. Thank you for the re-clarification. I couldn't have possibly gotten by without it. sigh.gif

We all know debit cards are not credit cards. While they're not the exact same thing, they do function similarly. While saying "I have a debit card" might be somewhat off topic, it's not like people are saying "I don't have a credit card, but I eat bananas quite often." It's still close to the topic, there's not need to go pissing and moaning and acting like no one understands the difference about the two when everyone CLEARLY does. Your example about "do you like night? Yes, I like bats" doesn't apply here. It would if some one had replied "I buy bananas" or something. In this case it's more like "do you like night? I like the evening."

I don't understand, but it seems like ever since you lost your job and your 350 you've slowly turned into a whiny little bitch TLC. Fits your scrawny nerd body, anyways. Every post from you is just you talking sh*t or bitching.

Now hurry up, post your "stfu" reply.

Just clarifying that credit cards are OTHER people's money. Not sure why everyone is about to an hero from being corrected over something you should have learned in middle school.

EDIT- If you're so worried about my reply, you've already lost what you set out to do. sigh.gif

I wish the law was 21 personally. Most of my debt happened very early over stupid sh*t. My brother and his wife are over 8,000 in debt and it helps me to know it could be worse, but owing ANYONE money is a bad habit.

You can if you actually earn the money and it's in your account.

My dad encourages Discover, the card that PAYS you, however, you can move from one to another in a scheme of sorts, to get better deals/rates.

I borrow from pawn shops and interest there can be 300% in some cases, but when you're in a corner with bills....

Here's the thing, when you're broke and can't pay your bills, they charge you late fees, and garnish your wages. When you're broke... and outta work, there's no way you're gonna catch up.

I'm speaking generally about my case, BTW.

I cancelled my card years ago, but that didn't keep me from having late fees, bounced checks, etc. Thing is, budgets and credit ratings are important to keep a handle on... for obvious reasons. I don't owe the Government $10,000 or more, (adverts offer help for ppl who do) and I never filed for bankruptsy but people get in WAY over their head this way.

I believe there are 3 credit report agencies in the USA that you can get a report from free once a year, or so. I was looking into that recently.

Yeah, pawn shops are probably the worst with regard to interest fees, but they differ.

You often get the fee slashed in half if you get your item out in a two week period. It works if you are getting a paycheck advance.

Most recently I pawned a rare demo of Van Halen on LP for $75. That was the same price they offered to buy it.

Debit cards are growing in useful ness, in fact, gift cards led to prepaid credit cards offered at gas stations in the USA... I would recommend that as you put the money on the item beforehand, like you would getting a money order!

Why the f*ck would you have a card with 28%?!?! I automatically discard offers in the mail for anything that's 20% and up. I'm currently enjoying 0% and 13.9%

i just dont get it. why the hell would you want to pay something with credit card

It costs more? Says who? Half of you f*cking morons have no idea at all how credit works and how important it is and you just pull sh*t out of your asses that your stupid parents and counselors have told you about credit cards. Then again, you're all 12 so your opinions are null for idiocy. In which case, I'm going to redirect all of you to my first post.

Yeah, I have a credit card. Actually, I have three of them. I use them for anything. Cigarettes. Gas. Food. Clothes. Shoes. Whatever. And I don't pay them off each month, but I do pay a large portion of the balance on each.

Credit is the most important thing you can have in this country (USA). Without it, good luck financing a new car, getting a real job (i.e. not Burger King), getting a mortgage, moving into an apartment, having a low interest rate on loans, etc.

And you can use the cards like a fool just as long as you know that soon enough you'll be able to pay it off or come the end of the month you'll be able to pay down a hefty portion of it.

M

It only costs more if you pay the minimum balance on a charge to fill up your gas tank over a 36 month period. Most cards over a one-month grace period, meaning that if you pay off your balance withing a month they don't charge you any interest. Not only that, but a lot of cards also offer 0% interest for 6 months, which means that you don't pay sh*t in interest for six months, for you imbeciles. Say today is Monday, you get paid on Friday, and you want a TV right now. Put it on credit and pay it off later. Beats waiting.

Really, I don't care what you idiots do. Pay cash. It'll get you nowhere and you'll all end up like Slamman with two cars that don't work because you couldn't get a loan to buy a decent car because the credit bureaus don't know you exist and living in a box because you got denied for a new apartment for not having any established credit.
