This is the first thread I've made in here in a long time.

Pretty much, I want to find out how many people have credit cards, or who thinks they're going to get credit cards when you can.

The reason I ask this, is because I've had about 7 letters from different Banks offering me Credit Cards, and I want to find out if this type of marketing works.

I've already got my own one, and I'm happy with that one. I assume that is why they're sending me CC offers, because my credit rating is higher now.

Anywho, discuss.

(I said credit cards a lot in this thread).

Nah, none here man. I have had family members get themselves into trouble as far as credit is concerned, so it soured my whole opinion of credit cards. I can basically afford whatever I want/need, and if I do need something a little more expensive I don't mind saving for it.

I got one with cashback and use it for all my spending. Pay it all in full each month and you're getting a discount on everything you buy.

My mom and dad have one each but I have hardly ever seen them using it. I'm not working yet, so I don't own one atm. Maybe when I have a good enough job with a good enough pay slip, I'll consider getting me a CC.

Nopers.

Honestly don't trust myself. I am very good at justifying things in my head (like buying frivolous sh*t I'll come to regret later)

I have credit card with no 3-digit-code on it angry.gif That's why I can't pay in paypal sad.gif

Have you tried the last 3 digits of the card number?

This can sometimes also be the security code for the card. wink.gif

I don't touch them. It's either cash or a cheque for me and I aim to keep it that way for as long as I can.

Yeah, I have a credit card. Actually, I have three of them. I use them for anything. Cigarettes. Gas. Food. Clothes. Shoes. Whatever. And I don't pay them off each month, but I do pay a large portion of the balance on each.

Credit is the most important thing you can have in this country (USA). Without it, good luck financing a new car, getting a real job (i.e. not Burger King), getting a mortgage, moving into an apartment, having a low interest rate on loans, etc.

And you can use the cards like a fool just as long as you know that soon enough you'll be able to pay it off or come the end of the month you'll be able to pay down a hefty portion of it.

Well, I'm 16 and I've got a debit card (Visa Electron) which works exactly the same way a credit card works (except that I'm the one paying, and not VISA to whom I'll OWE money then so I can't do anything stupid like go to a negative).

Sure, it works in the same way as a toaster can toast bread AND waffles, but a debit card is nothing more than a beefed up ATM card. Basically, you're just paying cash. You might as well, because you're not establishing yourself within the credit bureaus with a debit card. Even though some debit cards offer rewards for their use like points and sh*t, you're not going to be spending enough money to be able to match the annual fee to be enrolled in such programs.

Well if it can toast bread and waffles, than my credit card can toast bread, waffles, suck my dick, and warm up delicious potato bread rolls before dad gets up.

This.

I have an uncle who's never owned a credit card, and his family is rolling in cash. We, however, are struggling to pay off debt.

I said yes because I've got my bank card which can be used as a credit card, and my Best Buy credit card. Which has a $1K limit, and I've filled it up and payed off several times in under 2 years. Never missed a payment. Right now I've got like $250 riding on it, paying about $25 a month. Getting raped on the interest a little, but oh well. By the time I finish I'll only end up having payed an extra $50-75 extra over what I bought.

I'm a little wary about actually getting a credit card. For one thing, if I got a high enough limit I might go and buy something f*cking expensive and f*ck myself over. I've got decent self control but sometimes... lets just say a nice size HDTV has been looking good to me lately. Also, it'd be yet another bill I'd have to add into the pile and I just hate keeping track of that sh*t.

I have a debit card where I can spend the money in my account but no more. Like Jay said, I couldn't trust myself as there's a lot of sh*t I'd buy given half the chance. I'd regret it the day I got it and realise I'm further down the spiral with every purchase. Not for me, thanks.

Normally if you see a 2% response to mailers in any field your doing well.

That's the standard so to speak.

It's been awhile since I've seen the statistic but, credit card companies

send out something like 10x's the popullation daily. Or enough for every

man, woman and child in the US to receive 10 individual offers on any given day.

Mine? Straight to the shredder.

You completely forget the part where it "works just like a credit card" meaning that I can pay with PayPal and join porn sites..

and it works in more than one country. icon14.gif

I don't have one, and I honestly wouldn't trust myself if I did have one. Being as I'll always just think I'll pay it off by the end of the month or whatever and not have anything left to pay it off.

Yeah, I've had a bunch since I was 15. Started with a check card, now I've got a couple of cards from different places. I'll be completely honest, I've signed up for credit cards from places like Circuit City, Best Buy, and Target because I could afford to pay it cash, but I wanted to save the 15-20% for getting a CC from them. I'm glad that I did, too, because seven years of carefully managing my finances got me a decent credit score.

Nope, I don't own one and I don't want to own one. I love my Debit cards. I just want to spend my money freely and not have to worry about paying money back to the bank.

I refuse to use them. Have heard of lots of college students my age who kept them around for emergencies, but one thing led to the next and before they knew it, they were $20,000+ in debt.

Just not going to bother, I always keep my debit card and a little bit of cash on me.

I have one, I use it for big purchases only. Currently it's sitting with no balance outstanding on it at all. Rarely use it to be fair and when I do I always make sure I've sorted out a plan to pay it back asap.

Even if you don't use it, get one. Cut it up if you want. It improves credit rating.

The only thing I can imagine I'd need a credit card for is buying online, which I'd rather us a debit card for. I'd prefer not to be tempted into debt, I'll go of my own accord thank you mad.gif

I actually have 2. God forbid. One of them I've only ever used once and that was a " I have no money and need to get home" situation.

The other credit card is to BestBuy. How can you not have one? I mean I bought a TV last January for 1400 dollars from them, and have no interest as long as I pay it off by NEXT July. It's like saving up for something really nice, except you get it as soon as you start saving instead of months later after you saved up. Which is great because this Xmas I'm going to buy myself a new computer and don't pay interest on that until July of 2010.
