Yep NAT 2 is better than NAT 3. You won't get NAT1 if you're using a router.

Basically NAT1 is the best, but only achievable if you have your PS3 hard wired to your modem with NO router.

actually thats not entirely true. You can get nat 1 through your router...I have it now you just gotta disconnect the router from the internet via settings and then set your ps3 up to dial a PPPOe connection directly through the router to the modem...that way you dont have to f*ck with wires and disconnecting things it can all be done via your pc and ps3. to reach these settins type 192.169.1.1 or ur router adress.

anyway yeah nat 1 is the sh*t no voice restrictions and you can play with everyone...Dont get me started on the sh*ttiness of nat 3....you cant do anything not even join a game.

I'll need to read up about doing that. At the moment I don't want to change any router settings, last time I done it my internet was mad slow at downloading TV shows and movies.

yeah best not to mess with the settings if you already got a good situation going. I single handedly screwed my whole house out of internet access for a day when I was learning about my router..lol

once u get it down its one click on the pc and a restart on the ps3, also I might mention that when you do this all computers connected to the router will not have an internet connection. Nat 1 is an internet hog..lol sadly for me the only way I can play gta is through nat 1 sad.gif

Tonay Montana you seem like you know alot about connecting this. I have a question, When my PS3 is connected directly to my modem, It plays fine, with no disconnections or anything. I am still getting NAT 2 this way, when its connected directly to the internet. Now if I connect it to my router, It disconnects some times. I have directed my PS3 to use the IP adress 192.168.1.9 which is DMZ in the router setting.(meaning all ports are open for that IP address) Also I have the NAT in open.(it has an option for open or secured)

What else can I do to get stable connection like I have with the internet connected directly? I just wished there was a way to split the internet so one cable would go to the router and the other to the PS3 so I wouldn't have to deal with this router sh!t like Opening ports and crap. sneaky2.gif

sometimes it depends on the actual router itself. I know in UK that if your ISP is BT and you have the BTHome Hub, you're pretty much screwed for GTA online.

My friend has this problem, he gets disconnected unless he hosts the game.

yeah man I know what you mean. unfortunatly GTA is really sporatic about the internet connections it likes. In my expirience the besxt way to get a stable nat 2 type connection is to make sure you have UPnP enabled and go ahead and reset all of your dmz settings (for some reason dmz only seems to cause more problems). With UPnP the router will automatically open any ports you need when your ps3 requests them...this is also more secure than having them all 100% open, and for some odd reason its a hell of a lot more stable.

sorry I couldnt be of more help it might help if i knew what kind of router you were using?

its a NETGEAR WGT624 v3. the UPnP is enabled o n the ps3 but i don't know if there is a setting on the router for that. iwill check. also it is NAT2 with both the router and the internet directly connected.

I'm on Virgin Media also, but I don't have a router provided by them. I have my own linksys router.

I'm pretty sure NAT1 is not achievable with multiple systems using the internet connection. And that NAT2 is the best you can get with a router and another system utilising the connection.

I'm happy with my NAT2.
