Oh kripes, here I go down another 'Rabbit Hole'...

Thought I'd say hello (any other newbee's feel free to post on this topic - I didn't see a "HI! M'Names BOB..." topic, but I could also be old and blind).

 

First off - I used to post on the 3DO COMM back when they owned NWC. In fact, I was on it to the very death of it, spamming my nuts off with a dozen other regulars to see who posted the very last reply before they shut it down on the last day. I missed that forum, but the games got ruined by 3DO's marketting punks/mafia.

 

So there I was, looking for a racing game.

 

Cheap thrills, fire it up, learn the tracks, no big deal if there wasn't much time. A far cry from the games I used to follow that took a month or more to even finish and had all kinds of different ways to get through them.

 

"Grand Theft Auto", I thought. Oh YIPPEE! How tuff can that be? Jack cars, sell them for points, get better stuff and go faster.

 

Cool, no big deal. It was a three pack with GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas for a measly $29 bucks. I figured I couldn't go wrong...

 

I had no idea how addicting it was, or how much time I was going to spend on it. The suckers have kept me up all night long for about a week now - going back and forth between them!

 

I ran San Andreas ( (?) ESSAY! Go figure...) first, and got so deep in no time I thought it was someone else laughing their butt off.

"I smoke because it gives me a piece of MIND!!!"

 

Dang, I about fell out over that noise!

 

But the depth of play, wide range of things to do, OBVIOUS length of play, and the screwed up forms of satyric anarchy are the least of it all.

 

I thought this game series was a really bad idea, because it glamourises violence, drugs, careless sex, and "SWEET (F) the LAW in all forms..." even though a psychologist would claim:

 

"There IS clinical evidence that acting out through harmless means allows people with anti-social tendancies the opportunity to 'WORK THROUGH' harmful ideas in a non-permanent fashion..."

 

Makes you wonder what might have happened if Bill Clinton had been supplied with a "B-J" game, doesn't it? Yeah... I didn't think so either.

 

 

So anyway, here I am. HOOKED on a game series just like might and magic but a hella more fun, and spankin' after the next cool stuff to do in the game (GT3 has a 'Get to the Other Islands Early' tactic, but SA so far doesn't look like it does)

Well, you're off to a great start. Do us all a favor and keep the tl;dr to a minimum and if you have an old laptop running 98, we don't need to hear about it.

 

I'd be surprised if this isn't a gimmick, but if you're really a new member, then welcome. You've just discovered what we all know about the GTA series. You'll find a more forgiving audience in each of the games' own sections of the forum or, god forbid, vehicle chat. Gen chat can be a little rough for the novice.
