What if…

 

With the results of last week’s election, a potentially huge fork in the roads of the future has occurred. What would be in store for the world had McCain won? In turn, what knock-on effects would this create?

 

This is just one of the many possibilities. Many spring to mind. This topic is for stating a monumental point in history where one of a few things happened and resulted in the modern day situation, then discussing what could have unfolded had that event differed. I’ll start the ball rolling with one, and then you can discuss the present day as what could’ve been...

 

It’s November 22nd, 1963. John F. Kennedy, now in his third year of Presidency, is in Dallas. With his wife Jacqueline by his side, he waves at the cheering crowds as his motorcade rolls through Dealey Plaza, in downtown Dallas. The sound of a gunshot erupts and a bullet rockets into the warm asphalt by the open-top President’s car. The driver speeds up and another gunshot sounds, this time ricocheting off the body of the car, feet from Kennedy. The driver accelerates further and the car is submerged from the view of the crowds as it speeds beneath the triple underpass.

 

What if Kennedy had escaped his assassin’s bullets?

 

Discuss what would have happened had this been the case, and describe it’s short term effects on the world, as well as how the world would be different today, if at all.

 

I’ll refrain from my first example of McCain winning the election, since it’s impossible to discuss an alternate future since we don’t know what will happen even in the right timeline. There’s plenty more cases of What If moments that I will post once this one has been discussed. Feel free to post them too.

If Kennedy had missed his...Bullet of Fate then another person would try and suceed where others have failed, It is all part of a great cycle and eventually he would of been assasinated. Him dodging it would only delay the Inevitable.

 

 

Think about if both those plane's had missed the Twin towers, What would of happened?

I don't think that this would be the case everytime Ziggy. Just because one had failed, doesn't mean another will succeed. JFK was assassinated by an extremist who's political beliefs spurred him on to commit such a crime. This doesn't mean that if he failed, another would simply take his place and so on and so forth.

If the planes had missed, I would say the same thing would have happened as it did now. However if the hijacking of the planes never happened at all, then security would have remained the same as post 9?11 until another horrific terrorist plot was carried out, and again the same war on terrorism scenario would occur.

 

Also, if my ticket for the multi-million dollar lottery had won I'd be sitting in a spa full of champagne with 10 sexy goldigging hussies instead of on a game forum.

Discuss what would have happened had this been the case, and describe it’s short term effects on the world, as well as how the world would be different today, if at all.

A few thoughts.

 

When a U.S. President dies while in office he is succeeded by his Vice President, in JFK's case by Lyndon B Johnson, who carried on the agenda of the Democratic party from 1963 until 1969.

 

JFK was elected in 1960 after an extremely tight race against Nixon. After JFK's assassination, Lyndon Johnson was able to win the election in 1964 with a wide margin, in part because of sympathies caused by the startling event of the JFK assassination and also in part because the Republican candidate (Goldwater) had to run against the policies of a murdered president. One possible alternative would have been that Goldwater (or some other conservative) would've defeated JFK in 1964. Goldwater, however, was successfully painted as a right-winger by Johnson, so it's also quite possible that JFK would've won that election against Johnson as well.

 

Had Goldwater won the election in 1964, assuming that he would've been willing/able to run for a second term in 1968, that would've meant that Nixon would most likely not have been the Republican candidate in 1968.
