makeshyft
It's an op-ed piece which doesn't have to adhere to the same conventions as hard news (objectivity et al).
Slamman
Or akin to the newsite blogs. Of course, people also are voicing in on the piece, but not all of them come off as very keyed in to the political process. I'm no expert but I've been watching a lot of Public Televisions political programming. They've been doing more then usual because of the high interest in the elections here. (in the USA) Last night I watched a documentary they put together on Lee Atwater. It was VERY highly educational because you saw how blatant lies and shifting of attention, sound bites, what have you, they all created some distractions that influenced the elections. You find the smear campaigns are really done just because they work. The facts are still obscured and the Lee Atwater programme showed that even seasoned news journalists are tested to find out what is spin or what is not really factual. It is highly recommended viewing. Lee was quite a character, he seemed to have sociopathic tendencies. It's offered on a PBS DVD, I noted. Who needs objectivity when you have incoherence, retardation and ignorance on your side?
