Something I've never understood

Have you ever watched a show where they're making a drug deal, or some kind of business transactions, and one of the guy says, "I want twenty points," and the other usually says, "All I can give you is ten", or something similar

 

Well, anyway, what in the hell are points? Like percentage? Because I can't think of what they would be.

I always thought they were talking about trips; and a point was one tab.

Never ran into that it my dealings, always straight up. I would assume they're talking percentage, although I think it would be 50~100 on the cuff.

Yeah I always assumed it was like a percentage in something, like in the Godfather where they are stating things like "Ill give you ten points in that hotel".."ten? i want 12, f*ck what you heard" etc.

 

Its nothing to do with drug deals, more property, I think.

Watch sopranos and you'll hear it alot. Points are divided by rankings. The lower you are, the less points you kick up. However, when you're promoted, you're kicking up more but you're given more from your underlings. Not directly related to percentage, because it's a set number based on what your status is. Even if you have a sh*tty week, you still have to kick up the same amount.

The guys I used to know would refer to a gram as a 'point' if that helps. A point of speed = 1g.
