GTA IV PS3 AND RECENT UPDATE

OK, So I rented a XBOX 360 from Family Video and got GTA to try it out because I am only played it on PS3 since release. I must admit, the graphics are, well, different, in a better way. However, the pop-ins are terrible. Anyway, the most recent PS3 update I believe is causing some problems. I installed the update and now I am getting terrible pop ins in GTA that I have never experienced before and also getting some graphic errors like bodies floating and such. I did a quick format (keeping settings) and reinstalled the game. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this?? I am not to worried about because the PC release is so close but I am curious.

Thanks

Pop-Ins or Pop-Up is when the buildings, trees and all other rendered things literally 'pop up' into view as the hardware stuggles to render them in time.

I haven't really experienced it to be honest, but I have heard the 360 is worse for pop up than the PS3. Never played it on 360 though.

I have both versions of IV (PS3 and 360) and I can definitely confirm that the pop-in is so much worse on the 360. Also, I have my PS3 hooked up through S-Video and it looks so much better than the 360 plugged in through the RGB cables. I'm sorry for you Microsoft a**-kissers out there, but the PS3 certainly has that toy whipped in that department.

the most recent PS3 update I believe is causing some problems.

After the recent PS3 update, I have also noticed some stuff that wasn't there before. Mainly my problem has been that red colour sometimes turns into a blur, like driving in the tunnel, car red backlights look really blurry and 'shiny'. Also when in a taxi, the destinations in red are often very blurry.

Now I don't know if the problem is the PS3 update, but I certainly didn't have this problem before that, so it could be a contributor to this? Not sure though because sometimes the red colour is normal.

Also when being drunk and moving, the blurriness is much more noticeable.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE POP-INS!!!. I don't know if it was the new PS3 Firmware update or the v1.04 update for GTA IV but the pop-ins are TERRIBLE. I walk into burger shot and there are 2-3 employees and they disappear within a second. View distance is terrible too.

Is anyone else having this problem? I think I might uninstall GTA and reinstall it without the patch. Please post if you having this problem.

Thanks

I never had a problem with pop ins before i updated to v1.04 but these are different from pop ins.

In this GTA4 game, Pop-ins are rendered elements which appear when scaled within a dynamic range but these type of pop ins im seeing are different.

I would call these things "Ghosting". This is because the element (or npc person) is there but with a change/turn of your perspective camera angle they appear and disappear.

I only see this problem with npc (non playable characters) people in the single story mode part of the game.

This is retarded as you bump into people you cant see. Not a severe problem but just annoying.

When was this PS3 update issued? I haven't played IV for a week because my friend has it right now. Can someone kindly fill me in?

I am running the release version of GTA IV with no updates and the game runs much better. I don't play multiplayer much and all the patches were for multiplayer so I am going to leave it this way.

I have also noticed the taxi cab meter being really bright and blurry. Might want to check your Gamma setting under display in the game.

Pop-ins or not this recent update really messed things up.

UPDATE:

Running GTA IV on release version with no updates and with the newest PS3 firmware the problem is the same with the pop-ins. I am confident that the PS3 firmware update is causing this problem and not the v1.04 GTA IV update.

If anyone else has done some testing, etc. please post.

I have not had any of the PS3 updates and I have experienced the same exact thing with the taxi destination display turning to a complete red blurr and then other times it's fine. Also I have had the environment color defination turn to a all gray surrounding and then it will eventually come back to normal. I am not sure if this might be associated to change of time or not.

Having been offline for 6 or more weeks I returned to find both recent, (i.e. since yesterday), PS3 & GTA updates/patches have sent the game in to glitch hell, to the point where I find the game almost unplayable. And I can see whilst playing it is not just me.

Racing. I've seen pop-ups increase ten-fold, e.g. buses failing from the sky at Star Junction, random, unoccupied vehicles appearing in lanes. At times no-one is awarded any money from winning and 'Personal best' stats are all over the place.

C&Cs. A lot of lag, as if everyplayer (including myself) appearing to use lag switching. Cars (including the cop & getaway vehicle) being unenterable/undrivable. Random death with periods of non-respawning.

BTB2. As above. Game quits (with no disconnect message) especially after getting the helicopter close to the platypus.

That's as much as I've been able to take this far.

I initially thought my own d/l speed may have something to do with this but, as the problem has continued/got progressively worse upon playing and the testimonies above, I'm more inclined to believe this is a serious problem 'their' end.

edit: I've yet to play offline so I don't know how the game is running in this mode.

edit 2: (Something I forgot). You know the white bit of text that sits at the bottom of the game, er 'lobby'? I immediately noticed that it can look 'doubled up' i.e. one is superimposed on top of the other but slightly off-set.

And I posted here as despite a search I couldn't find a similar topic in the 'multiplayer' forum so I hope the above helps?

I just updated my PS3 with the latest patch. What was it exactly for? I didn't really notice any difference. confused.gif But yes, not only this latest patch, but the previous one (The trophy update) have both made my load time way longer. Its so annoying! mad.gif

I did the same thing, I was wanting to try out multiplayer, and it said it needed a update. So I did, then I found out after I ate, (I let it update while I was eating) it installed throphies. Thank God they aren't working, it says it still needs a update and I am not going to. It makes me so mad that Sony just had to add the stupid trophies, the only reasons why they added them was to try and get even with microsoft, kiss ass, and try to be better. I have been a fanboy of PS for a long time, but now I am not so sure of it, Sony has really screwed themselves big time. I have heard that they are doing something similar for the pc, is that true?

Xbox 360 on RGB @ 1080p looks the same as my PS3 on HDMI at 1080p to me, they both look great on GTA IV.

Also the pop-in issue is just like the PS3 when you install GTA on the hard drive on 360.

No cheats, fresh install.

I don't think cheats have any effect on your save file of GTA IV. Only on the PS3 trophies and Xbox 360 achievements. Am I correct guys?

Around release of GTA IV when you did a save game with cheats on it would mess up the whole install and cause the game to lock up, freeze, etc. I don't know if it does this now but I did try this on the xbox 360 recently and it was fine, however this was BEFORE the optional HDD install.

I have no problems with PS3 trophies. In fact, I prefer them on my games. I love getting trophies. I don't really care if my copy of IV takes longer to load. As long as I get to win my trophies. biggrin.gif

I have no problems, at least not that ive noticed.

I like my trophies to, their fun. Took em long enough to get them done though. Cant be that hard just copying 360 achievements dozingoff.gif
