Nomad91
I was deciding which brand of processor to go with for my new PC. I need to know which Processor in these 2 computers are better. Intel Dual-Core E2200: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0297990 AMD Athlon X2 4800: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218009475406 The reason I ask this is because both of these Desktops are the top 2 candidates for my new PC (Under $400). I heard that Intel has better architecture than AMD. Which of these processors are better overall? I will be playing some CPU intensive games like Far Cry 2 and Crysis and GTA IV (yay!). Which processor will run these games better? I know the E2200 Clock Speeds are lower, (2.2Ghz vs. 2.5Ghz) but will the better "architecture/structure" give an efficiency advantage over the X2 4800? Saggy
Well, as far as architecture goes, AMD has it over Intel actually. I can't really give you the specifics, but it's how they handle processing the cache. However, I'm pretty sure the Intel chip will give you better gaming performance. The X2 line was pretty under-powered compared to most of the Intel chips. I can't speak for that specific Intel chip, but the 4800 is not that fast of a chip. Theoretically, you'd assume that with the faster clock ( and as far as I know the 9 operations per clock versus 7 ) that the AMD chip would out-perform, but I'd wait until you see some benchmarks proving it, or just go with the Intel. junkie
If they are going to be used at stock speeds you won't notice much of a difference at all. But the intel overclocks waayy better than the amd. I've read about people having the e2200 overclocked to 3.2Ghz on air cooling alone without changes in voltage. However, since both of those computers are pre-built manufactered pc's you probably won't be able to overclock anyways due to limits in the bios. But I would be tempted to choose compaq over Dell - at least compaq usually uses third party motherboards (like asus), whereas dell's are proprietary and very, very limited. I didn't realize that about Compaq. That's definitely a reason to look into them. But, as far as overclocking goes... If you can find an AMD with a brisbane core, they overclock about the same as the Intel does it seems. I got my 4000+ to 3 ghz air cooled, no changes to voltage. I could have got it higher if I had a better motherboard. QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration! Democrab
Neither of those are going to cut it for gaming, If you have to pick one get the Compaq, both have sh*tty Graphics Cards though. Sag: Core 2 Duo's and Quads regularly get to 4Ghz.

Plus any options needed to overclock are probably disabled anyways. specs here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/data_sheet/fk586aa.html @Joe (and Nomad): I assumed that Nomad knew he'd have to upgrade the vid card. The computers as they are won't be able to play anything other than solitaire. Also after having looked at the specs the power supply would need upgrading along with a new video card upgrade. Pre-built Manufactured comp'slike DEll and HP almost always have sh*tty power supplies.
