Ramzy
Sorry if this has been asked before... But i'm wondering, why is the word "f*ck" censored with an asterisk? This is a fan made forum specifically for GTA... A series where "f*ck" is the 3rd word in every sentence, where you rob stores, shoot hookers in the back of the head and take your money back, and run down innocent civilians for sh*ts and giggles. So i ask again, why is the word "f*ck" so fruitlessly censored with an asterisk?

Girish
Have you ever noticed the Google ad at the top of every page? They pay GTAF to host their ads and it's because of their terms and conditions that words like 'f*ck' and 'sh*t' are filtered.

joe_bevis
i thinks its f*cking outrage at just how many f*cking words are f*cking censored for f*cksake f*cking sort it out. who gives a f*ck if some f*cking f*ckwit is offended, they can go f*ck off

Is it like that because I'm using Invision skin? If so, then what's the point in censoring swear words when the Ads are not applicable on all the available skins? Fnorg
Seeing as how people are so touchy about sexually related stuff, why not censor the word "twat" (vagina) instead of "sh*t" (feces). Also, it's stupid how TV wants to "shield" children from BAD WORDS, but not f*cking violence. f*cking stupid.

Seeing a pair of tits and hearing someone say "f*ck" is much more mentally scarring than seeing a guys head explode from a bullet. /sarcasm

Slamman
Fan made site or not, this site is not the same as getting permission to buy a mature game and being able to handle the content that entails. You'll find the moderators are here for a real reason, to keep the content from being overtly offensive.

I don't think so. I know many forum hosting sites that let you create your own free forum with the only downside being that you'll have to live with those annoying ads. Do you get paid for those ads? No, but the forum host provider does. Once the forum is created, the administrator can then choose whether or not to filter specific words. So far, I was talking only about free forums and not licensed ones like GTAF. In order to get rid of those ads or host your own ads so that you can earn from your forum, you have to purchase certain services from these ready-made forum providers like IPBFree, phpBB, Zetaboards, SMF, etc.

Even in the case that the forum Admins don't gain money for it, from Google's point of view it is the same - that is that their ads are placed next to foul language. Why is it any different from Google's point of view if they are paying the Administrator of the entire site, or the Administrator of a small forum? Slamman
With regard to advertisers, need not look ANY further then commercial radio. Why do you think I speak so highly of my friend Earl's radio show?? For one thing, it was public radio, and being a metal music show, he pushed the envelope. Virtually all music was supplied by those playing it. Very little was used from the station, though they had some interesting stuff. If advertisers pay for air time, that will never happen. They foot a major part of the bill. Support good outlets like that, they are very few. Edited November 11, 2008 by Slamman

Lol, what about your name?? I have always been wondering about the censor as well. Cause if people joined this forum because of GTA then they must've heard one of the characters swear many times. I was surprised to hear the characters swear in GTA SA because I don't think I've heard them swear much in the other games.

Fun Fact: I have Ad Block Turned off on GTAF since its a great forum and IMO, Tank deserves the money. One thing, that we all are missing is... Why are they "bad" words in the first place? Did someone just didn't like the words, called the swear words and said "YOU NO USE THEM!" or something?

Why is it any different from Google's point of view if they are paying the Administrator of the entire site, or the Administrator of a small forum? When money is involved, a contract is too. It's not just the terms and conditions of Google but also of the advertisers who pay Google to host their ads. Google, in turn, pays sites such as this to host them. No, it's not necessary that all advertisers agree to the same terms and conditions. Some advertisers find it okay to have their ads put up on sites that tolerate foul language while some do not. It's the job of Google to filter them properly. The ads that you see on this site are those that the advertisers have strictly prohibited Google from putting up on other sites that do not have swear filters. Whereas the ads that you see on other forums which are not paid by Google are those that have no restrictions as to where their ad is put up. That's the difference.
