A few hours ago, I decided to finally use San Andreas on the PS2 for the first time since I got it about half a year ago; in fact I've never actually used it. The disc was second hand and looking a bit old on both sides when I got it; granted it cost next to nothing instead of the ridiculous $59 I've seen it sold for brand new. Put it in the PS2 ready to start it from scratch, BMX, Ballas in a Voodoo and all, and it just sat there at the BIOS screen with the drive spinning up and down. I put it in the PC's drive and it spun up slowly and stopped, making the typical crackly sound of a stuffed disc on both machines. I clicked it in Explorer and it gave out the good old insert disc message. Just got it resurfaced about two hours ago, now it shows up in Explorer as SAN_ANDREAS complete with the directory listing, but still doesn't boot in the PS2. Bugger!

The DVD itself, bought from EB Games for a *massive* price of A$13.95, was a platinum version but strangely with an original version cover, in a generic DVD case and it had no map.

Looks like I'm going to be on the PC version for a bit, until I get *all of* $17.95 together for another cheap PS2 copy. Shock horror! Yes, the other one I sourced is $4 more than my previous one, yet both came from EB Games stores. The cover I saw was in much better condition though, it was a platinum one this time with everything inside; I hope the DVD is in better condition this time though. I have no idea how games end up damaged in this way, especially when they aren't exactly that old as it is. About a week after NFS Carbon came out, I was in a game shop and there was an 8-10 year old kid at the front desk complaining that Carbon wasn't working on his system. The disc (yes, it was an original) was scratched beyond recognition and there was no box or anything else with it, what the hell? I still have PlayStation 1 discs in perfect condition; I still have audio CDs nearing 20 years old for that matter, no skips or anything.

What I don't get with the usual posts of the same (but most likely fake) story is, are the 'gimmesananfreedownloadnowplzkthxbye' posters really that unaware of a thing called the legal system? Especially when most of them are about 15, have $4000+ worth of computer and AV equipment, maybe a sh*tty car, yet they can't get 20 dollars to get a game they really want.

There should be a test for all new forum members here prior to being able to post in the actual forums. If they have pirated games, write sentences improperly (e.g. everything they type is lowercase, UPPERCASE, has no punctuation or is in \/\/4nn4b3_|337, oR sPeLt LiKe tHiS, Or In This Manner Which Is Just As Annoying To Read), and spam posts by just adding 'ok' or 'lol' or their website or other BS that has nothing to do with GTA outside the off-topic forum, they should not be allowed to join.

I don't think they do, but they're bound to have an equivalent which sells it for a relatively low amount.

Hi everyone... No Wal-Marts over here unfortunately, but EB Games, Target, KMart, Big W, Myer and GameTraders (and smaller game stores) all sell it of course, but there's usually not much difference in the price.

Hate to tell everyone in the US, but it's not $9 over here! Had the rest of Australia discovered the Internet, there might have been some online stores showing prices, but of course, no such luck here. Anyway, both the PC version and PS2 version are about $44 over here brand new, only varying within a few dollars.

According to the manager there, they'll still do a swap when they get it in, regardless of the 7-day sticker on it. I guess I'm lucky this time.

@ OverTheBelow: I've had a Logitech Dual Action USB (PS2 clone) gamepad for quite a while, and also a crappy PSX+N64/USB converter which I need to resolder due to the quality of the original wiring, which broke after half a year of usage in ePSXe back in early 2003. Actually, the first thing I did when I got my then-new 1.2GHz machine was get the USB converter, and arcade stick, due to my immense dislike for keyboard usage in games like Tekken 3! That reminds me, I must also get around to repairing the arcade stick too, which suffered from two broken switches on the stick itself (metal ones, not rubber). You can tell I hate using keyboards in games! wink.gif

Unfortunately, San Andreas PC detects both the digital d-pad and the left analog stick as the same device and they're both hard coded to up/down/left/right (the same as III and VC, but however SA (at least on the PS2) has different uses for the d-pad AFAIK, which I wanted to make the same on PC). All I use the keyboard is for simple FPS/3PS shooting, in the GTAs it would be a simple pause, option/controls/standard and back into the game to kill hordes of cops; much more fun than using the auto-aim 'cheat'!

Update: Managed to swap over the San Andreas copy. See if this one works.

They should have Wal-Mart in AU.

There is a Wal-Mart in other countries, it is called walmart.com, they ship to other countries. There is also amazon.com which also ships to other countries. Forgot to add, that there is also target.com, all 3 of which have it for about the same price. Hope this helps.

So basically, if you want to buy the game at a discount, order it online and have it shipped to you, that way it will save you a lot of money.

Holy crap. Here in NZ, it is only $16.99 new and $11.99 used at Electronics Boutique (EB Games).

You shouldn't be paying that much.

Also, in your first post, did you say that you put your PS2 disc in your PC?

Or did i read that wrong?

Yes, if you have a DVD drive on your PC, it will read the PS2 disc. After all, if you have the San Andreas radio progam installed on your PC, it will only work with the PS2 disc. I have confirmed this. Hope this helps.

Whoa, thats cool. Yes that does help, but why do you say that at the end of loads of your posts?

PS2 discs are exactly the same as regular DVD-ROM media, or CD-ROMs in some cases (not GTA though). It's also an interesting way to compare the differences between the PC and PS2 versions themselves (like our censored San Andreas for instance). If we couldn't read the discs, we wouldn't have much to look at when it came to emulation (Google PCSX2; BTW, you might need an EPROM reader (expensive) or a mod chipped PS2 and some PS2 dev tools/discs/memcard reader for this, as you need to extract your own BIOS from it to use with this emulator 'legally', network and all). If you're still on a P4 or a 'slow' Core 2 it'll run sh!t slow though, on my system it got 3fps in GTA3 (which freezes if you start the mission 'Luigi's Girls') and 0.53fps in Tekken 4.

If I actually had a camera or phone on me, I'd go straight into the game shops tomorrow and sneak a few photos. As said earlier, second hand copies of SA cost between $10 (usually no book/map and a generic DVD cover) to $20 (basically mint condition), but new games in Australia are an absolute rip off. Some new PS2 (not PS3) games are still being sold for nearly $80!

Probably the only thing that's cheaper in Australia than anywhere else would be poker machines, you get 100 credits for each $1 coin and you still don't get anything back! biggrin.gif

@ Miamivicecity: You must be in a different location... I got my copy of LCS for $28.84 at Big W in February, which was the cheapest out of 6 places around the district. It's probably just a Melbourne thing, we've been known to be more expensive than everywhere else before, not just in petrol or your Coles docket either.

I got LCS for $25 near Sydney and VCS at the same price, I think it was EB Games but may have been JB-HI. Anyway there is any copy of PS2 III>VC>SA at EB here for about $14 pre-owned other wise $25.
