Gamernotnerd
They did it because some people like the classic top-down feel, others liked the 3D. They tried to give the best of both worlds. And please refine your grammar a bit, not perfect just a little better. wwwwandrarijaz

eli31
I say that the camera don´t allows some movements If you press up, you go north If you press down, you go south That isn´t like GTA1, this only gives 8 movements.

If you're on PS2 the analog stick offers many directions. 2. Do yah really need more than 8 essential directions? 3. To turn it to GTA 1 or 2 it'd be too much trouble. Ghost Bear
The upside-down camera is only playable with classics contols on PC version, but there many places in game where you completely can't see where you going - like under tram tracks or that bridge near Asuka residence. But it's still playable and besides you can't freewalk like with ps2 controller you always can select desired direction with 1st person view, wait a bit and you will got what you need. Using this way i completed "Sayonara Salvatore" - i turned in Sex Club Seven entrance way and throwed grenades until he died. But "Paparazzi Purge" is impossible to beat - you just can't see where boat is going - i only managed to make 20% damage or so. I can't imagine how i will fly Dodo with that
cant remember
Yeah topdown was only included for nostalgia's sake since it was the first 3D GTA. It wasn't intended to be played that way. Just to say in the previews "for the oldies, we have the classic topdown aswell". It was dropped in all subsequent GTA's.
Heihachi_73
The top down mode is sort of cool, except when you go underground and it goes into first-person 'bumper cam' which can be annoying if you never use that mode. An off-topic question, wasn't there a mod that changed bumper cam to 'Street Rod' cam? That's where you see the dash, steering wheel and all that; I wouldn't know how it would work though, since the window height is different in most cars (for instance, an Esperanto compared to a Flatbed). I will admit that they really did screw up on the analog controls on the PC. While it works perfectly when driving cars and even the Dodo, controlling Claude (and even Tommy in VC) in classic mode is terrible with that 8-way movement. On the PS2 it used the full 49-way movement or whatever it's called, and can actually be used with precision (like running on ledges instead of edging your way slowly so he doesn't fall off - on PC you have to swap to mouse control for that!). The other annoyance with classic mode is how fast the right analog stick aiming is when compared to PS2 - try using the gamepad only on PC to take down a chopper or the 'get X headshots with sniper rifle' rampage; it goes all over the place. The main reason I use classic mode though is to exploit the auto-aim glitch that lets you fire really fast without the reloading sequence (a shotgun for instance), and when I decide to play GTA at more than 1' away from the screen where no keyboard and mouse lie, but usually I use the PS2 for that since you can pause it without joy2key running, and enter cheats if need be.
