Matchmaking

If read stuff about GTA:IV being a Games For Windows Live game, and about their "trueskill" matchmaking system. And it depresses me. Will there be matchmaking in GTA:IV, or will there also be a serverbrowser?

 

In my opinion, match making is the worst that happened to online gaming since... well since ever I guess. An explaination for those who don't know what it means:

You get dropped into a server, without you being able to choose which one. It could be that you get dropped into a full server, it could be that you get dropped into an empty server. It could be that the server is modded to hell, it could be that it's a standard server. It could be that it's a listen server (running from somebody's PC. Usually extremely laggy), it could be that it's a dedicated server (usually not laggy)

 

And it seems like developers are liking it more and more . To name to recent games that incorperate matchmaking: "Far Cry 2" and "Left 4 Dead". That's right, even Valve, who was one of my most favourite developers, because they cared about PC gamers, have crossed to the Dark side

 

I'm not alone in my dislike of matchmaking. Shortly after the Left 4 Dead demo was released, people began to protest. In a matter of minutes, the thread concerning it grew to about 30 pages. (I'll post a link if it's allowed. Some good comments where made there)

 

So, what do you think about it? Are you OK with it? Or do you hate it? And is it actually known if there will be any matchmaking in GTA:IV?

if the online is the same as seen in the demo, i won't buy it

 

 

What's your opinion?

matchmarking was a sh*ty way to avoid dumb console boys to pick a server by themselves

 

if R* make a sh*tty matchmarking system for the online of gtaIV i won't buy it

 

 

pc gamers are smart, they can think, we don't need that kind of BS

but i don't think that you have to access a MP game only with matchmaking...

being positive, I think that it will be good to make sure that people who just drive around dont go onto servers where people want to do some instence shooting,

 

 

and I am sure that the SAMP and MTA teams will make online mode which allow you to use custom severs,

 

and obviously, console gamers (N00Bs) will have the simple stuff, whilst proper PC Gamers will know about things like SAMP, and so we can be confident that if we are playing on a SAMP server, we wont find Noobs on the server!

, yeah, that's right. But I think there should be a serverbrowser with the game, it shouldn't have to be modded.

L4D ahs matchmaking but you still can un the console and the command connect [ip], and im sure the server browser will let us join games wit the full game.

 

I preordered yesterday and have been trying the demo and i like it, it will sure keep me busy while GAIV comes

In multiplayer, there's now custom search filtering, so you can search for only games that have auto aim on or off, for example, or any other finely tuned criteria - one of the few contentious issues about the console versions. The way you interface with the settings will be different - you can choose from your phone if you want to just do a quick match or a full custom search, and from there you'll go into a pre-lobby with a list of all the available games, and you can then apply further filters which will change what's available. The number of players in multiplayer is going to be increased from the 16 players on consoles, although the final number is unconfirmed.

On the pc vs of fare cry 2 i know you can select from a list of servers. they also do have DS also. i dont see anything to worry about. even halo 2 has dedicated server on the pc.
