10-15 on minimum-medium is good because of I can choose better videocard And what is about RAM? Maybe 4gb will be good?

p.s. I saw lots of videos on youtube who plays on such CPU (Pentium IV) and I can say that it is still playabe...

You don't need more RAM, for now. Just get a better CPU first and then a better graphic card, if you can.

10-15 fps might not be enjoyable at all. And I wouldn't believe everything that is posted on Youtube. You'll need to tweak your game heavily in order to get it to run at a decent fps. Too much fuss and no guarantees.

Yeah, before getting a different video card, I would go for a better CPU.

Even with those specs you posted, the CPU cant keep up with the video card, so getting a better video card wont help much.

Well yougamers finally released their benchmarking tool for GTA IV. You can test your PC here. Although I have to say, it is very odd that it puts the minimum / recomended requirements so close to each other on the scale, that the Quad core literally has no effect, so this might be of no indication at all as to whether or not your PC can really run it.

But I would say it is safe to say that you will be able to run the game well if you exceed the requirements by a comfortable margin.

Yougamers GTA IV test

Click on "Can you play it?" if you didn't figure that out already.

System Reqs are as follows:

Minimum System Requirements

Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3

1.8GHz Intel Core2Duo or 2.4GHz AMD Athlon X2 64

1 GB of RAM (Windows XP) or 1.5 GB of RAM (Windows Vista)

16 GB free hard drive space

256MB NVIDIA 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900

Recommended System Requirements

Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3

2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad or 2.1GHz AMD Phenom X3

2.5 GB of RAM (Windows XP) or 2.5 GB of RAM (Windows Vista)

18 GB Free Hard Drive Space

512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

can anyone tell me that why my pc is giving fatal error:RMN20 when i start game.plzzzzzzzzzzz tell me bcz i wanted play GTA 4

I can play on medium textures, with some occasional choppiness, and most other settings on medium on my AthlonXP 5600 (2 x 2.8ghz dual core CPU) , 2gb 600mhz DDR2 ram and 8600GT 256mb PCI card. What I have discovered though, is that by putting the textures on low and therefore being able to set the other setting higher, I get a game that looks as good and runs smoother!

The fact is, from my point of view, I don't think there is much difference between low and medium textures. I have seen high textures on a PC and there is a definite improvement there, but the difference between low and medium is very small indeed, by virtue of being able to increase other settings! I think tweaking the game as well with the commandline.txt option also blurs the line between low and medium.

I am sure some technical person could point out that the pixel equalization is not equal, or something, but as a gamer, I don;t see any difference at all between low and medium textures!

What do you think?

Also, for a hint, I use the extension -availablevidmem 1.5, which fools GTA IV into thinking you have 50% more video ram. Mostly I see this in tweaking forums as -availablevidmem 5.4, etc to add far too much, which causes problems. I have a 256mb card and GTA IV says I have 371mb to play with. This allows me to play on Low Textures (see above), and all the other settings on high. It seems to me Low Textures, plus all the other setting on high, plus smoother gameplay and no pop-in overall is better looking/playing than having Textures on Medium and then having other settings on Medium or Low and maybe having pop-in.

Love to hear your views on this! smile.gif

I doubt. Your CPU is below the minimum requirements and your GPU is alright. You might be able to run it decently on low settings.

I was asking this because I tested it on a notebook with Pentium Dual Core T3200 2.00GHz, 4GB RAM and GeForce 9300GS 256MB and it's playable with everything on low. With Ultimate Graphics Tweak it's even better.

ok its final just to be safe and all this is what im getting:

nvidia geforce 9600gt 1GB 256-bit GDDR 3

500W psu dont know the brand name but its $70 i think its corsair

so i think a 500W psu will do the job,and also,i'll only be getting it in 2-3 months so that sucks but until then i have many other cool games to play, all i need now is COD 4 and rainbow 6 vegas 2 and i'll be good,oh and Crysis, but now i just need to wait noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gifcryani.gif but in the end nervous.gifmercie_blink.gifsly.gifinlove.gifhappy.gifwow.giflol.gificon14.gif

Depends on what fps you consider playable. Anything below 20 isn't playable for me. Smooth gameplay is always above 25 fps.

sleepy.gif Thats great.but there is one thing you may consider,as you get a 500W PSU,then why not go for a HD 4850,4770 or 4830?Their prices arent much higher than the 9600GT and can perform a lot better.........

Pentium4 2,4GHz + 768MB RAM + Radeon x1650Pro 256MB

Will that run GTAIV? (of course on lowest possible settings)

Not at all. Seriously, you can tell by just comparing them with the minimum requirements in the first post of this topic.

Well... this PC also doesn't meet minimal requirements of GRID, but it was playable (I've beaten whole game). I thought it might be similar with GTAIV...

Happily, I've got also second PC which runs GTAIV fine on 1920x1200 wink.gif

GRID is just a racing game, not an open world sandbox game like GTA IV. It might have run on low settings, but that won't be the case with GTA IV.

i decided not to get a 9600gt and wait 2 months and rather get a 9800gt 1 gb and 550-600w psu, will it perform ALOT better than the 9600gt?oh and anyone think if i take my pc to a trustworthy computer guy will he maybe be able to overclock my cpu for me with a 550 or 600w psu cuz i really dont want to screw up my pc

Yes, the 9800GT will perform better than the 9600GT. And again yes, if you're unsure about overclocking it yourself, it would be extremely wise to consult a technical person who has a decent overclocking experience.

Considering your CPU, I don't think it will make much of a difference. I get (on average) 20 FPS with my system and I OC'd the GPU to its limits(artifacts or system hanging depending which clock was adjusted) and it didn't make a bit of difference(So I left it at stock speed). That verfied that this game is indeed a CPU whore. Its hard to do a proper comparison since you have an Intel CPU. Also, I'm maxing out most of the graphics settings and you may not be doing that. I'm more concerned with visual quality than FPS myself.

Hi, I want to know if I can make GTA IV run on my PC dontgetit.gif

As far as I know, the requirements for GTA IV are:

Operating System: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 / Windows XP Service Pack 3

Minimum:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4 GHz

Memory 1.0 GB (Windows XP) - 1.5 GB (Windows Vista)

Hard Drive Space: 16 GB of free space

Graphics Hardware: 256 MB Nvidia 7900 / 256 MB ATI X1900

Sound Hardware: 100% DirectX 9.0c compliant card

Recommended:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1 GHz

Memory: 2.0 GB (Windows XP) / 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)

Hard Drive Space: 16 GB of free space

Graphics Hardware: 512 MB Nvidia 8600 / 512 MB ATI 3870

Sound Hardware: 100% DirectX 9.0c compliant card

Now, I got this biggrin.gif :

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 2800+ 1.81 Ghz

Memory: 1.53 GB

Hard Drive Space: 320+ GB

Graphics Hardware: 512 MB ASUS AH3450

Sound Hardware: Realtek AC97 Audio

So, you think I have any chance to run it on my PC with what I got? smile.gif

Thanks in advance!!! alien.gif

Nope, it will lag as sh*t.

I tried yesterday to play on Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 4GB RAM and ATI X1800 256MB - Result was 8.39 first time on benchmark then it was 21.37FPS

There is a chance that it would work but it will run horribly.

I've ran it on an AMD Ath 64 3700+ (OC at 2.6GHZ) 2GB of memory and an ATi HD2600 PRO and it sound spend most of it's time in the low teens frame rates.

This is a game which needs as many processor cores as you have, a minimum of 2GB (XP) or 3GB(Vista) of memory would also be a good starting place

yeah see but will these specs run at these settings?

9800gt 1GB

1.6ghz core 2 duo

2560mb ram

550-600W psu

and these are the settings i want to run

texture-high

reflection quility-medium

water quility-low

shadows off

detail view 20

draw distance 20

resolution-1280x1024 or 1280x800 or 1156x756 or something like that

so i figured ill be able to run those settings though my cpu is low i would rather run at those settings sothat my game isnt laggy to me i just want 20-30fps that possible with my pc?

Dude your prosessor is too slow, it needs to be atleast 2.4GHz Dual Core.
