@death783: Your PC cannot run GTA IV. It's too weak. You'll have to upgrade to a whole new PC if you wish to play IV.

Canyourunit is a crock of shat.  Apparently, my computer that can't run CoD4 (I have tried) on lowest settings, can run GTA4 jsut fine. Amazing.

System specifications?

Specs: AMD Something or other 2.6Ghz dual core, 2gb 800mhz DDR2 RAM, ATi 3400HD, Windows XP SP3.

Cant run cod4 at anything higher than 20fps standing still. No way in hell it can run gta4.

I'm thinking of buying a new computer, and was wondering if it could handle gta IV

AMD Phenom II X3 2.60GHz CPU

ASUS M4A78 Plus Crossfire Chipset Mobo

4GB OCZ PC2-6400 800Mhz DDR2 RAM

Sapphire ATI HD4850 1Gb Gaming GPU

Seagate 500GB (7200)32MB SATA2 HD

Sound MAX 7.1 Intergated Audio APU

LG SATA 22X Lightscribe DVD Writer

I realize it'll probably have to be on lowest, but i'm just wondering if I'll get a decent frame-rate.

-thanks

Lowest? Nah. You should be able to run it fine on medium settings. I have an almost similar setup except that I have a quad core and 512MB HD4850. I run the game between 30-40 fps on medium settings. Your tri core should not affect you much and besides, you have double the VRAM I have. You can even try and push it to high settings, but I'm not sure what fps you would get. You'll have to try that for yourself. But medium settings, definitely. icon14.gif

thanks, and could someone tell me if $860 USD is a good price for this computer?

Well, if you're building the PC yourself, you could get something better in pretty much all aspects for that price. But I guess since it's a prebuilt, the price is fine.

If you're fine with building the PC yourself, let me know and I could put up a build wink.gif.

hey everyone i want to know if i'll get 20-30fps with these settings and specs:

XFX geforce 9800gt

2560mb ram

corsair 550w psu

1.6ghz core 2 duo

now the settings that i want to play on:

texture-high

medium reflections

medium water

view distance-30

detail view-30

shadows off

1280x720 res

will it be possible to reach 20-30fps?

Nope, you won't be able to run the game at that fps on those settings. Your CPU falls below the minimum requirement. The graphic card is decent but it's not going to help if the CPU is weak. You'll need to play the game on the lowest settings. You can, however, play the game on those settings if you upgrade your CPU or if you overclock it. Your PSU is good, so if you wish to overclock, you'll only need to take care of the cooling and ensure it is proper too. Consult Google for specific info related to overclocking your processor.

are you sure because im running on a 1.6ghz and a 8500gt with high textures at 15-20fps,but because im getting a 550w how much do you think i can overclock to?

Consider yourself pretty lucky then. Most people would have struggled to get that fps on a similar system.

Which Core2Duo do you have? Is it an E2140? Provided you have the appropriate/sufficient cooling, you can overclock it to a little over 3GHz.

yes it is a e2140,thats actualy good considering i'll save money because i dont have to get a new cpu right?

Well, theoretically speaking, the overclocking should give you a decent performance boost. But upgrading to a quad core and overclocking that would be even more awesome.

that depends,if i cant get a quad core ill overclock my dual core but the chance that im getting a quad core is very high because at the moment that is all i want for christmas, the one im getting is a Q9400 where it is a core 2 quad 2.66ghz cpu,how will that baby perform?oh and is a quad core compatible with all games, what im asking is if i play like splinter cell double agent the game wont pick it up as a single core cpu right?but anyway will i run at those settings with a 9800gt and a Q9400 at 40-50fps?

hey guys i just wanted to know,i can maybe get a 9600gt tommorow and according to benchmarks and videos the 9600gt is a little slower than the 9800gt but i might as well just get the 9600gt tommorow,oh this is my real question:

i have a 350W psu and i know the 9600gt is not a high end card and i will save alot of money if i dont get a new psu,i run the 8500gt fine on a 350w psu and will i be able to run the 9600gt on 350w psu, please if anyone has a 9600gt and a 300W+ psu tell me guys pls...

I had to upgrade my 450W because with the 9800GT in, the PSU would shut down my PC. Of course I also have 2 disc drives 2 hard drives, and a PCI IDE/SATA controller. Most people don't have that much stuff in their PC. I'm skeptical that the 350W will work with the 9600. Don't be fooled if it boots up fine. Sometime my PC wouldn't shut down until I started playing the game. I'd say 500W would be the bare minimum. I'm not sure what if any overload protection features a PSU that old would have other than a fuse inside.

I ended up getting a 650W PSU. I was only looking for around 600 but I got a great deal on the 650W.

but ram takes 7W every 128mb so i figured, this is my pc specs so as you can see my pc isnt that huge:

350W psu

2560mb ram

1.6ghz core 2 duo cpu

and a 8500gt,only till a few days then a 9600gt

anyway 7W every 128mb so i maybe figured i remove a little ram so maybe keep 1 gig or should it run just fine with 2560mb ram and a 9600gt,because my cpu is very low though i figured that it will use alot less power am i right?but the main question is will it work with no issues on a 350w psu with my specs?

If you want to play GTA4 you still can't because your CPU is too weak.

i was just saying that my cpu is enough and i only want 20+fps so thats why im asking if a 350w psu is gonna be enough for a 9600gt?because i really want more performance even if i get 18fps minimum i dont care as long as i dont have a 8500gt anymore, but will a 350W psu be enough?

350w will be fine for a single graphics card.

400W would be better, but your 350W should be also okay for that 9600GT.And i also think you will get more than 20 FPS.
