You see why I don't trust recommended system settings and those "canyourunit" sites? Because of that. http://i37.tinypic.com/qod9h4.jpg

It says that my GPU is too weak for recommended but I'm still able to play this game all details high and even AA was 2x and resolution were 1280x1024 when i remember and it run smoothly.

DDR-2-800 6GB Ram

Waste of money. 4GB of ram is barely needed for any game, let alone 6GB.

I know a few games that use 4gb ram that I play, so it's fair to say it is needed in this day and age, 6gb isn't a waste of cash if you have the money as you will need to update in the future, and if it's only 800mhz and you have the money, I would just go for it wink.gif

I have 4GB 800mhz, and I am updating to 6 or 8 GB after christmas.

Forgot to add .. If it's Vista 64 bit, then 4GB is the minimum for a decent gaming machine, otherwise your 64bit Vista will be a waste with anything under 4GB.

You seem like a smart guy wanna ask something, I got 4 gb RAM but since I only have vista 32 bit my PC can only recognize and use 3.25 gb of it...

ofcourse this sux as I wanna use the full 4 gb, if I get vista 64 bit will it improve my games (more importantly, will it improve gta 4)?

GTA IV is 64 bit ready. BUT, many other games does not fully supports 64 bits and you will lose performance of many games. I don't recommend 64 bit, anyway 3 gb of ram is enough for today's games.

Doesn't it also force your RAM out of dual channel mode? Since its only seeing 3GB's or 3 sticks of RAM considering if you have 2x4GB sticks of RAM?

Personally, I would go for Vista 64 bit with 4GB as todays games do actually use 4GB of ram, but that of course depends what games you play, GTA4 will definately make use of your 4GB, supreme commander and its expansion uses 4GB and crysis and warhead also uses 4GB, there a few more, and most upcoming titles, unless they aren't using the best technology, will definately make use of 4GB.

So, without 4GB ram, vista64 bit wont use it all, and it would be a waste of money.

As for if it makes GTA4 better, well it's not been tested yet so thats a wait and see thing, but I imagine it would be better on a 64 bit system as it looks like it's going to use 4GB easily.

I'm anything but a pro to be honest, I only know what I know because I snooped around proper tech forums before updating my PC a few months ago, I recommend doing the same if you want the facts on whats best for you wink.gif

You won't lose performance upgrading to 64 bit with 4Gb ram at all, in fact quite the opposite, as I found out a few months ago.

As I stated above a lot of games DO use 4GB ram, unless you play warcraft or something then yeah you won't notice a thing.

thx for the info, thinking about running vista 32 and 64 bit dualboot but then again that seems a bit stupid to do lol...

I have heard of people doing that mate, some older games do have problems with Vista64 bit, Arma - it couldn't accept over 3GB of Ram, you had to disable 1GB using a windows boot command.

Apart from that I haven't had any trouble at all, and all newer games are vista compliant, I recommend Vista for better performance wink.gif

Despite the fact that I scored WELL over the recommended system requirements, my video card still "isnt good enough" (even though I know it is.) It would also help if it read my specs right.

Display Card!: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 512MB /

ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB

Comparing your display card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB with the requirement NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

• Your display card is significantly more powerful in raw performance

Your display card fails the following requirements:

• 512MB memory, you have 320MB

lol wut?

No matter. I plan on upgrading to 2 GTX260 core 216 superclocked cards.

lol wow that isn't messed up or anything xD, but yeah your card is faster than both of those cards listed in recommended specs lol

Does anyone know if GTA 4 will take advantage of SLI or crossfire? I saw there was something about crossfire in the official read me, so maybe?

Those sites fail at showing me the right specs. My memory is almost up to 2GB, but it still shows me 1024MB and not enough ?!

Question:

My setup is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (so just 1 step behind the minimum).

HIS ATi Radeon X1650 Pro ICE-Q 256 MB

1 GB of RAM

That is probably not enough.

But what do you recommend for a system for about 500 EURO (should be 550 dollars)?

Intel C2Q or AMD Phenom?

I can run Crysis on High and the Can you run it program says I can't run GTA4, I can't believe it, I guess its because my CPU is very old but I know I won't have problems with GTA4, common Pentium 4HT 3,2GHZ (rated at 4.81GHZ) is a lot better than their minimum Core2Duo 1.8GHZ and still I can't pass the minimum requirements for GTA4, everything else is higher than the recommended, I know I won't have problems with this.

Really? When I had a dual core and 8800GT and I couldn't get above 25fps at high.

Can you run it program says I can't run GTA4, I can't believe it

Well with only a 9600GT and P4... you better believe it.

Seriously, you might bottleneck your CPU using a 9600GT, upgrade to a dual or quad core.

Actually all Pentium 4's are slower than all Core 2 Duo's because they run a lot less efficient

I think there's something wrong with your computer, I have a 8800GT and I run crysis @ very high on 1680x1050 at about 35 FPS with drops at 20-25. I don't like Crysis though.

Does resolution make a difference? I will run the game (if I can) on 1280 X 800. Are the requirements for the game for any resolution or for a specific one?

If my actual computer can't run it, I'll have around 200$ after christmas to spend on a upgrade, the problem is my motherboard can't support new cpu, I'm stuck with one of the first generation of the P5LD2 all the new version can support Core 2 Duo, but not my 1.0 release. But I guess I'll have to wait for SR2 that would not be a problem at all for my PC, I got a load of games that weren't supposed to work on it already, I run Fallout 3 and Crysis, Far Cry 2 also with no problems.

My PC can run it, but I dont have SP1 for Vista. Do you think it will run without SP1? I dont want to update to SP1.
