I'm just posting this to let people know how IV runs with the Phenom II X6.

Settings -> everything to HIGH except Texture Quality which is medium, all sliders 100. Latest patch. 1280x1024

- Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T

- Video Card: Nvidia 9800GT 512mb

- RAM: 4 GB DDR2

- OS: Windows 7 64bit

Benchmark result: 40fps

I don't know ingame fps, but the game runs smooth so it doesn't matter.

I have the same setup as you except I have the X4 and the 1GB 9800 GT and DDR3 RAM(but DDR3 is overrated so don't worry that you still have DDR2). I just set everything to the same as you and got 40.43FPS in the benchmark. So if you upgraded from an X4 just for this game you blew your money. But then again, since the game only uses 3 cores at the most, the extra 2 don't mean a thing. Although you could run two instances of the game at the same time and ALT-TAB between them. Don't know why you'd wanna do that though. tounge.gif And the 1055T is 600MHZ slower than mine. So I'm getting gypped too. If this game loves MHZ then why isn't my extra 600MHZ making any difference at all? Unless you're overclocking, which you didn't mention.

I upgraded from a Athlon X2 2.0Ghz on which I was getting 25fps on all minimum (with the same graphics card). turn.gif

I didn't overclock, it's on the stock 2.8Ghz but maybe the Turbo thing turned on and overclocked it a bit. But yea, the game doesn't use more than 3 cores.

Turbo? What turbo? There hasn't been a turbo button since the 486 days. dontgetit.gif

When I said "...you blew your money" I didn't mean you specifically. I meant anyone who reads that who did that upgrade.

Newest CPUs (like Intel Core i3/i5/i7 and AMD Phenom II X6) have Turbo option, which increases the FSB multiplier when needed.

If you plan to buy this PC after Christmas, then sure do ask again like a week before. I mean in those upcoming months Intel and ATI/AMD are expected to release new products on the market, so we might build you even better PC. wink.gif

If you have 7300SE right now, I suppose the rest of your PC is just as old... so buying HD4870 is rather pointless.

Yes! Your system meets the recommended requirements for Grand Theft Auto IV.

It should run well on your computer at high visual settings. If you wish improve the experience even further, note that...

* Your video card has 576 MB video card memory. The Game-o-Meter team recommend a video card with at least 1,024 MB.

* The overall performance of your processor and video card is below the Game-o-Meter recommendation.

Why did you buy that 9500? 100 series GPU's(and their ATI equivalent) must be dirt cheap by now since Nvidia is up to the 400's(And ATI equivalently evolved).

There were no GeForce 100 series cards sold to individual customers (OEM market only). Same thing goes for 300 series. Both series consisted of rebranded prev-gen videocards.

5770 for $200? That is quite a lot. For $200 you should be able to get either HD6850 or GTX460 1GB. Both are much faster than 5770.

I see. Well, if GTX460/6850 are not within your budget then go for 5770. It's not a bad card after all.

Funny..I've played it on a w701..the 3800 is faster than a 8800GT and 8800Ultra, and it has a i7 and DDR3. I had no problems at all..

You trying to correct me again..nope

I've finally got myself a rig that'll play GTA4, but what I want to know before I actually buy the game is wether it'll run at a solid 60fps at any settings. I'll be playing at 1280x1024.

Specs:

Intel Q6600 @ 2.4ghz

GeForce GTS250 (512mb - essentially a rebranded 9800gtx)

2gb RAM

Windows XP.

*edit*

For anyone who's interested in how it runs since I got it, it's not too bad. Never drops below 25fps and averages at 35-40fps.

For 1280x1024 it should be fine.

I don't think you'll get 60FPS except at the beach and indoors though. Maybe at a lower resolution. Why are you obsessed with FPS anyway? Besides, you won't even notice FPS when you're busy doing something in the game(Unless of course you have Fraps running). And that GTS250 is essentially an 8800 since 9000's are re-branded 8000's.

I play on a 2GB version, and you have a faster CPU compared to my 615e. Look in my sig for what I get maxed at the highest res..
