A little help with adding a reflection

I need to place a reflection texture for the water like the one in Vice City, which made the water look cool.I know you should be able to do that via particle.cfg but I dont know how.

I need it because the ocean water looks boring.I want a little more detail.But if you can do it for me, could you please make it reflect on a longer distance, because in Vice City it would only relflect on a short distance and when you would look at the water from the shore there was no reflection.

 

I guess you have the unmodified particle.cfg.Just upload it and tell me what to add to particle.txd.

Nobody knows?I bet you can add a reflection to the water but I don't know how.

It is possible to add a reflection to water, but it would be VERY hard. You would have to make a new Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file and get GTA to read it somehow. You may be able to edit limitadjuster.dll with Resource Hacker, but i'm not sure. After coding your DLL, you would have to add some kind of a file that tells the game what to do with the water, that is the tricky part. If you can find Y_Less, ask him, he has done a lot of GTA mods and hacks. smile.gif

i have a question, is the water actually a 3D model? i mean, a little square textured?, if it is it might be possible then add the reflection (like with the cars)... in theory.... because the model can have the reflection info, but if the engine is not set to use it, then a 3rd party source is need

I think the water model is created in render time like the bubbles textures or the loading bar texture.In San Andreas you could add textures and use them in game via effectsPC.fxp or particle.cfg.I thought that it can be done in GTA 3 too, but apparently not.

Well, the reflection on cars can be done with the modeling tool, but here the water model doesnt phisically exist and it's texture is situated in particle.txd not something like:water.txd and water.dff.

then you will need definitely the intervention of a DLL or an Asi file, ENB series do that for you, but i'm not quite sure if that will be of use for you
