Well, I don't know how far I will get with this:

Windows Vista Home Premium

Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 2.00 GHz

2.99 GB RAM

Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family

I still need to invest in a video card. How much are them?

A good card can be bought for about 150-200$ like the ATIHD4850, 9600GT, 8800GT all those cards are very powerful and will play newer games at higher settings.

i dont think that is real omg that is exagerated... notify.gif

They are...... there's no way they would put requirements that high and besides gamespot said that they haven't released actual requirements yet in there latest preview

TBH, if its more CPU intensive, then that might make CPU manufacturers get off the fat ars*s and deliver a few more decent products!

I think that it would dfinately be an advantage to see more CPU intensive games/apps

and alot of devs are currently saying that we won't see huge advances in gameplay until we can get more decent CPUs

So all in all, this game (even if some of the poorer systems cant run it) will be a big booster to the CPU market!

(and with that we will see better frame rates in games like crysis)

*EDIT*

Oh and if you have an AMD based system then you can simply use the AMD Fusion utillity in the expert profile to get a huge speed boost, so the required AMD based CPU would most likely be halved and the same for the required RAM/Memory

I don't really see what's your problem with these recommended and minimum system requirements... GTA IV is freaking detailed, and I think these are pretty real.. However, recommending a Quad CPU is a bit weird..

i was pissed off at the minimum video card requirements more than anything.

7900 for minimum? you've got to be sh*tting me!

crysis uses a 6800 for minimum and ive heard of people running 6150se's on it!

My single core albeit a good one is in trouble. The other GTA's for the PC diden't require anything like this. It's bigger than Crysus

Hmm interesting, my system usually sits casually betwen minimum and recommended with most modern games. This however has my CPU a mere .1 of a mhz under! I've got a Athlon X2 4400+ @ 2.3Ghz. I probably won't get the game until I've witnessed the release and all the possible problems and whatnot. I'll let you lovely people be the test subjects!

So is it going to need a full 16gb of free hard drive space? In reccommended it says 18 and in min. it says 16. I have enough space i'm just curious how much its gonna actually be for ppl that are worried about it.

Wowwww I'm so excited now, just now I woke up and go to here, what've i found? Yeahhh the official reqs. For my laptop:

Processor----OK (2.5GHz)

RAM----------OK (3 GB)

HDD----------OK (I have 100GB remaining)

Graphics-----Seems 9500M GS will fly it too

OS------------I have Vista SP1

Great my lappy match the recommended reqs......

Looks I don't need to build a new desktop.

Everything is OK except my RAM which fails by 0.5 GB.

Will there be lags?

On Recommended.

fu#k,i have to install sp3

SP3 is a very nice.

Most importantly (for me), it gave me a 9-13% boost in gaming benchmarks - both synthetic and real-time.

You don't even need to validate your OS install - you just grab it from near any downlaod site such as download.com.

It's quite worth installing.

As I have said previously it really looks like Rockstar have made the console setting the "minimum" requirement. If you look at the specs (disregarding the ram) they are suspiciously equivalent to a 360/PS3. I am just guessing here but I would say the minimum spec is what you need to run this game at console levels of physics and graphics at 1280 x 720 @ 20 - 30fps.

This is a novel move by Rockstar most developers degrade the graphics to below the console version so lesser PC's can run the game. If you look at Farcry 2 on the PC yes it has a low minimum spec but that spec does not play the game anywhere NEAR the quality of the console. Just like the console version doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the PC on High or Ultra High setting.

Now the recommended will be for those that want to play it with ALL settings maxxed at an appropriate resolution. This will be physics turned way up to accommodate 30 car traffic jams, further draw distances and an increased ped population. All these "better" things require more horsepower hence the need for the Quad2Core (or Duo2core eqivulent).

Are these the specs I expected ? well the minimum specs are what I and many others have always said a console is equivalent too. So there is no surprise there, I am curious as to what extra settings the PC has that would warrant a quadcore though. Either way if you have a PC that meets at least the minimum specs then you will pretty much get at least the same graphics, physics and AI as the consoles. If you have a better PC then you will get a better experience.

Oh and please stop saying these aren't official specs, IGN stated "Rockstar gave them the specs". Now if these specs were bunk don't you think Rockstar would have had them taken down in a shot, it isn't like you can't miss them they are all over the net now.

LOL. Glad I built a "recommended" rig this month. I wanted some future-proofing so it cost me a little over $1100 USD. I don't plan to keep upgrading and reselling my old parts.

Time to put some spin on this, PC fundamentalists, about how it won't cost a small fortune for get rid of one's old non-multi-core compatible and AGP socket type motherboards for a new GTA4 PC capable rig, while at the same time chastising console owners for spending far less on a device that will play everything that's made for it. Have fun, fundies!

EDIT: Browses past first page, looks like you people are kicking into overdrive.

I take it you missed the bit where the MINIMUM spec is all that is needed to run the game to the same level as the console then. So do tell me how much would a 2ghz duo2core and a 8600gt cost to run GTA 4 to the standard of the consoles ?.

The recommended is to run the game BETTER than the console version. In other words we will get a better game which will obviously require more horsepower than the consoles.

I only have 1GB RAM... what kind of requirements are those R*????? LoL

It seems like I need a new processor. No worries though, I have a AMD Athlon 4200 X2 at the moment, but I'm getting a Phenom X4 for christmas, so I should be okay.

It seems the game is more processor hungry than graphics hungry, my 9800GTX should cope fine.

mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.

You know as well as I do that minimum does not mean minimum. It means "this will boot the game" however, playability still varies from game to game and system to system. Hell, even the recommended specs for some games are too low for smooth playability.

Please, continue to argue for the sake of argument. Continue to reply on other subjects than the one I speak. I know there's no conversing with you. This is my final reply to this thread. Flame away.

So according to this, I will not play on at least minimum with a 6800, 1 gig of RAM, and a 2.4 ghz processor?

Come on.

Even Crisis's minimum is a 6800 GT.

f*cking ludicrous.

I would reccomend that you wait for AMDs 45nm CPUs before upgrading... they should be due soon after christmas, so don't worry about waiting too long!

I have personally decided to avoid upgrading my X4 9600 BE to a 9950, because I want a 45nm which shall make a big difference in performance for the Phenoms

I would reccomend that you upgrade everything else to get ready for the 45nm models, such as

*Your system Memory/RAM

*Your Chipset

(I recently upgraded to the 790FX Chipset - I would reccomend the 790*FX* rarther than the 790GX because the GX is more optimised for systems with slower GPUs, where as the modern CPUs are really bottlenecking the GPUs so GPUs don't really need a huge help like the CPUs do...)
