Could i play it on 1024x768 (most recent games i cant play on 1280x1024 so im afraid this one not either) on low/medium settings?

C2D E4500 2.2GHZ

2GB

265MB 8600gt xxx

Asus P5b

XP SP3

I am worried about my videocard. Yes it says that the 7900 is minimum but the 7900 outperforms the 8600, maybe the xxx version is faster though, i dunno i hope so. If i upgrade it to a 8800gt with 512mb would i be able to play it better or is my processor still not fast enough then?

I am also thinking about a quadcore, my mobo supports it but is it fast enough for it or should i look for a new mobo? I dont know nothing about FSB speeds etc.

Sorry for offtopic, but do you think i am able to play it with my current system?

you'll be fine,at least you will run it.

Your processor is fine. smile.gif Quad core would be better for max settings, but if you upgrade to a 8800GT I think you will be fine.

Processor:

Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

Memory:

2044MB RAM

Video Card:

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Since I didn't get enough answers in my thread before it got locked (Reminds self to read rules), any possible way that I could play without terrible frames? -.-

I've never been a great fan of pentium D's i think there a cut down version....

I work in a pc store, so i've fitted and installed windows of loads of these machines

and they seem really slowish...

though, i've never gamed on one.. so...

Actually I'm not sure now that I will be able to run it with high because I have a big ass monitor (28") sigh.gif . Oh f*ck that. When I was able to run Crysis with everything on high and 1280x1024 then I will be able to run GTA IV too. f*ck that biggrin.gif.

Would it work with Service Pack 2 of XP?

That's what I have and I'm having issues upgrading to SP3

I'd imagine it would work on sp2, but i read a couple of pages back that the installer might not allow it to install on the pc if sp3 requirement is not met...

I could give a damn less about graphics, as long as I can run with decent frames on my rig, i'm completely happy.

I hate to break it to you but your CPU is not 5500Mhz or even 5.5Ghz, its a Athlon 64 X2 5500+ which doesn't equate to the speed of the processor. Its just AMD's way of naming their processors way back when the for example Athlon XP 2000+ @1.7Ghz was equal to a Pentium 4 at 2.0Ghz thus the 2000+ performance wise. It really has no meaning these days.

Its a 5200 sorry my bad... and runs at 2.6 gig according to dxdiag...

I also belive thats 2.6 x2?

if this game lags on high settings for me, i'll just get me a quad core... smile.gif

Well you don't add clock speeds together just because its a dual core, it doesn't quite work like that. Its like this, a single core processor is like one 2.6Ghz dump truck carting dirt back and forth while a dual core is two trucks going 2.6Ghz so its not faster just more efficient at processing the dirt or rather data. tounge.gif

well soon has the game arrives ill let you'all know the outcome smile.gif

so its pointless me getting a quad core then? - id have to get a new motherboard too man.....

Does having only 1.67 GHZ effect the game A LOT?

And does having a slightly less powerful video card effect it a lot?

Commenting on my dilemma from earlier.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2, and all the other hardware specs meet the Minimum Requirements. Apparently you need at least SP3 for it to work properly.

However after running the check I get this:

user posted image

It clearly states I need at least Sp3 however I passed with Build 2.

Well that online test doesn't really tell you much that you wouldn't know already. But about SP3. It wouldn't hurt to download it would it?

And can someone tell me if GTA 4 will be released tommorrow in Australia? That countdown at the top of this page is getting me excited devil.gif !

So, if I was to upgrade anything on my rig, what would you do first? I probably have enough to do just one thing.

Intel E6600 @ 2.4Ghz

nVidia 8800 GTS 640 (G80 core)

2 Gigs DDR2-800 Ram

Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard

I'm not running SLI, but as far as I can tell I couldn't even get another GTS 640 anywhere. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to get a GTS 512 (G92 core). It says that it's PCI-E 2.0, which my motherboard is not (not sure if that really matters a whole lot).

Or, if it would be worth it to get a Q6600 (the motherboard will take it).

Well I know but im confused why its saying i am 'A-OK' to go when my Service Pack is clearly one level below.

And also, downloading it = £30 or so.
