gamesguru
The Only Music DVD I've got is 'Michael Jackson: Number Ones'. I might get 'Gorrilaz: Demon Dayz' at some point; but I've already got the CD and can watch the videos on YouTube, so I don't really see the point. The New Pollution
I've never been much of a fan of music DVDs, however I have got one; Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads. It's an absolute classic, which I highly recommend for any music lover.
Slamman
I'm editing this old post because I feel I already mentioned the video releases mentioned here. Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii, Led Zeppelin's box set PULSE, Hell Freezes Over, Song Remains The Same, Too Hot To Handle-the story of UFO, Ramones -End of the Century, Heaven and Hell Sabbath with DIO, Obituary's Frozen Alive. Entombed's Monkey Puss (I have on VHS, however Ha!), Sodom's two disc set is very well done, and even VoiVod put out a DVD archive, however, never followed it up with the proposed sequel. Even the SODOM DVD is supposed to be followed up with another DVD set... It appears anyway. Edited January 10, 2009 by Slamman
Slamman
BUMP addendum; Forgive me over looking this but my intent was to also establish new The WHO discussion as well. Most recently getting The Amazing Journey 3 disc collection, I went through one of the discs already, covering the bandmates indivisually, discussing as well the pop art of the 1960s that the WHO used as part of their promotion, and because they were taking art in London at the time when the Swinging 60s were just happening at the time. The interesting thing this set seems to point out is that prior to Tommy, the band was seen in a different light. After Tommy, the Who proved that they could take a bold, audacious concept, never tried before, and pull it off. It's interesting and humorous to hear Pete talk about Roger, there is also some famous fans talking about their admiration for the Who, like Noel Gallegher of Oasis and Eddie Vedder... To hear Pete put down some actual multitrack performances on his own and play along with them, you get a look at how his own demo process proceeds. (He brought fully realized ideas to the band and then the individual members re-interpreted Pete's demos...in live performance within the studio) You also get to see The Ox, John Entwistle playing his bass in a studio as well as a bit of isolated track, you realize that he brought something totally amazing to an instrument that formerlly had little respect. Some of the interviews used here I have seen before on prior discs, not sure if that was the 35 Years of R&B release, but it seems like it. Not too much though, I assume some of it is dated. Pete tells of guests who came to the art school and showed presentations that were outlandish and striking, and that is all backed up with visuals as well, which is really nice. There is also some segments about Pete first hitting his guitar into his amplifiers and working with Jim Marshall while he was in London at the time, Others portions look at the loud and acoustic styles that he adopted and how he approaches the guitar, over the years. One thing I had missed before is how Pete uses his THUMB over the top of the neck to hit the low chords!! Amazing. Journey....for sure

Slamman
Since my last post I've bought 'David Gilmour - Live in Gdansk (5 disc special edition)' and 'Clutch - Full Fathom Five'. Both are rad as hell. Our local Best Buy didn't have it and I've no idea why, it makes no sense. There didn't appear to be space where it sold out. I know there appears few Eagles fans besides me, and perhaps Waddy, but I got Don Felder's book after Christmas and have been reading it and loving it. He has much to tell on the goings on with the various members and it's so emotional as well. In particular the experience of Hell Freezes Over the performance filmed he describes as a perfect Hollywood presentation of a concert, nothing was in reality what it seemed. The old demons they had fought with were being hidden away from public eye, and even though "Hell had frozen Over" for the very reunion to materialize, Felder describes the stressful months on end, after the 14 years between. He had hoped like everyone that the Eagles could put things in some perspective and become more like family friends, it sadly was not the real case. I see some similar circumstances within Pink Floyd, since the late 1970s to the Live 8 reunion.

Slamman
My want list has included Black and Blue, the seminal 1980s Rockumentary on Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath. I recall radio ads for the film but NEVER got to see it, only a small portion from a disc my friend got his hands on (an import IIRC), and it's still not gotten proper release. The California Jams 1 and 2, I had not been keenly aware of until looking back again for interesting things on YouTube, one of the key organizers has the MAking Of for both concerts on YouTube, which is about a year old already, but I was able to get Cal Jam II on DVD off eBay, still unofficial. Sure, it maybe obvious The Eagles played Cal Jam 1, hence my interest now, but Jackson Browne was filling in for Don Felder due to the birth of his son Jesse, and he missed the gig! He was totally bummed, but his family life was more important. Black Sabbath's original lineup played along with some others, even Earth Wind and Fire, it's still quite interesting to see performances recorded in the daylight. Deep Purple with Richie Blackmore, just all around fantastic!
