I played it again during lockdown and it held up really well. Not a remaster I really need, but one I will take without any complaint. But will I rock out to the concert sequence again?! They're supposedly in full production on their next game and it's rumored to be Alan Wake 2 and something else in the same Wake/Control universe. Originally, it was meant to be an open-world horror game for the PC and back in the day the gameplay footage was mind-blowing. But due to consolitis it ended up being a linear little game. From what I remember, going from open world to linear had nothing to do with console limitations and everything to do with story and creative direction. I'm not sure the game would have been anywhere near as good if they had followed through with the original concept. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of open world mode. Something maybe like Alan Wake's American Nightmare mixed with the original safe during the day, dangerous at night open world concept they'd originally planned. Although I'm sure I own a 360 hard copy, I never got into it even though I love the setting and the idea behind it. I remember the buzz at release when 6-7 years waiting on a title was the most gigantic thing ever. Thankfully these remasters give me the best chance at going back and replaying. If your going to play for the first time I seriously recommend shelling out the few dollars for this updated version. It really looks great. The original doesn't look bad, but this is worlds better. It makes it a better experience because you can really see all the details in the settings and creatures while all the high tension is happening. Not sure what the FPS is but everything is nice and smooth. Oddly enough I played the original not long before this remaster was announced. Wasn't until later that I became more properly interested in gaming. When I joined the forum I wasn't seriously interested in any other games but GTA, mostly. I really wish I could experience AW again, like a virgin, for the very first time! really though, it's a masterpiece. in my top 10 games of all time for sure! so great it has come to PSN aswell. This is probably my 5th or 6th time playing through and I'll say the remaster was worth the few bucks for this run. I've got too many games going atm but now I'm itching to finish the Alan Wake DLC for Control. I'd not pretend that I understand the story on a deep level, but I dig the atmosphere and setting. There's nothing like it out there. I wish we can get more AAA games that are set in small rural towns with a semi or full open world. I think a setting like this would fit a detective type of game (maybe a spiritual successor to L.A.Noire?). It also happens that I like movies and TV shows that are set in this type of setting, such as Fargo, Prisoners, No Country For Old Men, True Detective (Episode 1). I got a free XB360 digital download of it with its DLC's when I bought the special edition cirrus white Quantum Break XB1 console when they came out.
