flicko
Expulsion Segregated. Solitary from the World. Because of my parents. Because of God. Because of fate. It's been so long since I've heard the voice of another, felt the tender skin of another. Felt at one with another, and there's nothing I can do about it. The place I call home is consumed by manure, and is as irritating as the beasts I lie with at night, taking up all of the room, eating the hay I use to keep myself warm, and contsantly groaning. Morning arises, I awake to the glare of the fiery monster that brightens our day, and conserves our very existence. How I wish sometimes that the monster would destroy this life we live in, why must it contantly punish me? Why must I be the banished one, whilst they live a joyful life, have kids, get married and are ultimately accepted into society? Why am I placed so low on the hierarchical structure? Why won't God relieve me of this tortured, agonisingly painful life? Why? The clock strikes ten and it's time to work. Time to clean the filth, whilst being watched constantly by those bastards. I crouch in fear as I wash the gutters, as they stand five feet behind me, whips in there hands and ready to lash. I miss a bit and I am forced to endure ten lashes, my back resembles those of a murderer or a rapist, yet I have done nothing to be treat this way. I cannot help the way I am, yet it is destroying my very belief. Thirty lashes later, I'm done with the cleaning, and it's now time for the hard work. With a rusty, ageing, stainless steel chain around my neck, they literally drag me to the hole, pick me up and throw me down. They then throw a spade at me, and order me to dig. Without hesitation, I go to my feet, lift the spade off the ground and begin to dig. If I find a stone I get rashons, if I find nothing I get one hundred lashes. Sometimes I find nothing for weeks, and when I do actually find something, the only rashons I get are leftover bread crust and a few raisins. I haven't eat properly for weeks. I'm dying and they do not care. Surely this act of supremacy is wrongful? Surely? Night falls and my day of hell edges closer to an end. Whether or not I get my hundred lashes or not depends on what time I can get to rest. If I find a stone then they will only throw horsehoes at me for a few hours, if I find nothing the lashes seem lenient compared to what else they do to me. Sometimes they stand me behind a horse and irritate it, forcing it to lash out and kick me. The force from a fully grown horses kick knocks me back at ferocious speeds, and I struggle to breathe for days afterwards. But they do not care. Sometimes they use the horse brands on me, and scald my skin until it starts smoking and numbs. They laugh at my pain. They do not care. Sometimes they strip me naked and throw me in the below zero temperature river, then haul me out and scrape down my skin with sharp rocks and sticks. The pain is too much to bear and I don't deserve this. But they do not care. When they are finally done with me they grab my legs and drag me along the hard, rough gravel, completely naked, before leaving me outside my stable. They then laugh as they watch me crawl into my place of rest, grab some hay and try to sleep. At most I sleep for around two hours a night, the pain and infections consuming my body make it nearly impossible to rest, added to the fact the horses cause me discomfort. But my day of severe hell is over. Until tomorrow. And all of the torture I endure from them on a daily basis, all of the pain they put me through, the disgusting stables I have to sleep in at night, has nothing to do with my actions. Why God, why must you give me this skin colour? Why must I be isolated from the World because of my ethnicity? why? ------------------------------------------------- So that's it, not too long and fairly straight-forward. It's basically about the way a native Black person was treat on a daily basis in the 1930's. They way they were isolated from society, simply because of there skin colour. To me it seems fairly bland, but it's all I can come with at the moment.

Lochie_old
Damn, the brutal world of slavery/racism.
mark-2007
I quite liked it, a good idea. I liked the desperate, questioning narrative too. Although it seems to be about slavery rather than racism, in which case, slavery was abolished well before the '30s.
flicko
Although it seems to be about slavery rather than racism, in which case, slavery was abolished well before the '30s. It's a bit of both really. And I'm sure that in the 30's, even when slavery was abolished, many white supremacists wouldn't obey the rules. And since this short story is set in a small, remote town, they would probably get away with it. Anyway, thanks for reading it and leaving feedback everyone. Yeah, a lot of people snuck slavery through, you're right. Nice job.

flicko
Aw man, that's a bit of a lost cause. To be honest I can't even remember where I left off, or what I planned to write next. I'll take a look at it tonight and read over where I left off, and hopefully I'll bump it back up as soon as possible. I'm going to finish the story, I just don't know when. I might continue to write it in Word, and not post until completed and I'm fully happy with it, because there's some chapters I'm not too fond of. Might modify them as well. Oh, and thanks for the comments everybody.
Oxidizer
Whoa, really? Boy am I glad you'll be re-reading it again tonight! And that you do got plans to someday finish it. xD It'd be wicked to see some new chapters coming from you.
Hayden
I noticed a few times you spelt "their" wrongly: "whips in there hands and". I thought that apart from those few small distractions it was all very well done. It puts an historic hardship into an artistic medium that really affects you, and makes you empathise with the character.
