GTA VC cannot find enough availabe video memory

Question

motisingh

Hi guys,

My first post so please be gentle. After years I have decided to play VC again. When I start the program, the message above appears (not enough available video memory). I have a Dell laptop with Vista (shudders). My VC is not modded at all and just been re-installed. This is my Vital Stats:

Chip Type: Ge Force 8600MGT

DAC TYPE: Integrated RAMDAC

Adapter String: Ge Force 8600MGT

Total Available Graphics Memory: 1535MB

Dedicated Video Memory: 256MB

System Video Memory: 0MB

Shared System Memory: 1279MB

Model: Dell XPS M1530

Processor: Intel ® Core 2 Duo CPU [email protected] 2.10 GHZ

Memory (RAM): 3070 MB

System type: 32-bit Operating System

I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I thought I'd give as much information as possible, so one of you kind people could help me.

If you need any other information please let me know

Hmm, could be a driver issue, get the latest drivers for your GPU.

Google a program that will install M\mobile GPU drivers.

Tried that, no luck, thanks for the suggestion though.

Have you got Vista SP1? From what I've read, you get this problem when you use a nVidia/ATI card without Vista SP1.

I know this will probably result in a shed-load of "loser" abuse, but please tell me how I check lol

Make sure your hardware acceleration level is set to Full, if it is not already, set it to Full, and see if it works.

I'm not sure about this, but can you go to your BIOS and see if there's an option for system video memory and see if you can change it.

Thanks but no luck.

I miss Vice City, I used to love just driving around...no game can compare.

I have not tried runningVC on our VISTA laptop yet... you may want to check out the pinned Vista thread in the troubleshooting section--- lots of suggestions there--

Yh I tried it all before, its a shame. Is there anything even close to being as fun as vice city that does work on a vista laptop?

Try a different game and see if it works. I reccomend Far Cry, or SA.

I believe the video memory is shared with the RAM? If so, see if there is an option so it does not share the VRAM with the System RAM. It may help.
