fonnybone
Ok, i got tired of answering the same question every day for a month ! So i'm doing my part, this is a basics to where and how to edit car files.... BODY go to your GTA3\Models directory... open up TXD.IMG with the TXDtool At the left are the car names (find them). Click on the car you want, at the right should appear the textures for that car. Left-click to choose the texture you want, then right-click and choose export\to BMP. Save your .bmp file where you want and edit it to your liking. To import, follow the same steps but IMPORT\from BMP. Save. -CARNAMEbody64 = Exterior body panels. One square is often used on MANY panels.... Grayscale, but you can color it to have pearl or chrome effect. -CARNAME8bit128 = Interior, license/tags, headlights , tailights, grill... The outer shape/size are mapped and cannot be changed.Use the car color to reshape things a little. Be sure you note the RGB and use only that RGB in the carcolor file if you do so... WHEELS still in your GTA3\Models directory... open up MISC.TXD with the TXDtool At the right should appear the textures . Left-click to choose the texture you want, then right-click and choose export\to BMP. Save your .bmp file where you want and edit it to your liking. To import, follow the same steps but IMPORT\from BMP. Save. -trainvent64 = disc brakes. Only applies when using wheel_sport (#160) -wheel_WHEELNAME64= This is the actual texture you're looking for. The TIRE PROFILE is the black left around the rim. Leave SOME black though ! -wheel_sport64 = This is the only texture to have an alpha channel. What this means is that you can give parts of the texture different levels of transparency. This is why it is the only one that you SEE THROUGH. You can't edit the tire profile too much ... This might be a good time to mention how to resize the wheels. Now you must understand that it will RESIZE ALL THE WHEEL not just width or height. The wheels proportion is defined in the .dff files which we cannot edit yet. Also, you can't adjust track OR wheelbase. Basically, that means the distance between the wheels cannot be changed...yet. go to your GTA3\Data directory... Open up default.ide with notepad. - The wheels ID# are from 160 to 166 (DON'T EDIT !!! - Edit the lines starting from 90 to 150. - The last value is the tire size ( 0.8 is a good value for a car and 2.0 are monster truck tires ! - The value before the last is the wheel ID # (160 to 166 ) to change wheels on a car. LIGHTS go to your GTA3\Models directory... open up PARTICLES.TXD with the TXDtool At the right should appear the textures. Left-click to choose the texture you want, then right-click and choose export\to BMP. Save your .bmp file where you want and edit it to your liking. To import, follow the same steps but IMPORT\from BMP. Save. - headlight = Headlight pattern. This does not change the color of the light itself but rather the light it 'emits'. - shad_car = Shade under the car ! Actually, this is the texture you want to edit if you want an undercar neon effect. Replace the black with color ! REAL CAR NAMES go to your GTA3\text directory... open up "yourlanguage".GXT with the GXTtool Find the car name in the LEFT column. It's alphabetical so Banshee would be in the "B's". Now change the value in the RIGHT column to the name you want to see in the game. If it bugs, try to DELETE the original string and then ADD STRING. Make sure to use the original name. WINDOWS open up particle.txd with the TXDtool At the right should appear the textures. Left-click to choose the texture you want, then right-click and choose export\to BMP. Save your .bmp file where you want and edit it to your liking. To import, follow the same steps but IMPORT\from BMP. Save. - wincrack_32 = This is the broken window texture. This is the only way to tint windows for now. Of course, you'll have to break the windows to see them ! That's a good start i think PLEASE DO NOT POST QUESTIONS ON THIS THREAD, ONLY ADD TO MY POST OR CORRECT ME IF YOU SEE ANY ERRORS...

Stilton
Nice one fonnybone. Can I convert this to HTML and stick it in the How To's section on gta3mods.com? Then when people ask these questions, we can point them to said page.

chom
i know you said no questions but i spent all of today looking and i havent found anything that tells you how to make the wheels closer futher apart, im trying to make my own little monster truck mod from a perinnial but i couldnt see how to spread the wheels for stability. - edit - oh so now i see thwe bit that says: "basicly you cannot editthe wheel base....yet." buger oh well i'll just have to wait. spineshank08
could I add the ....... HIERARCHY BROWSER!!!!!!! The modded dff's hierarchy browser has to look like the original dff's browser! everything has to be in its sub-category ie boot_ hi_ok and boot_hi_dam go into boot_dummy bonnet_hi_ok and bonnet_hi_dam go into bonnet_dummy etc. Then you drag all of those objects into your main dummy ie banshee, so when your done all you'll see is: +banshee and that's it. BTW Open up an original kuruma.dff and copy everything in it's browser onto a piece of paper ie categories sub-categories, and use this for setting up other browsers b/c it has mostly every part used on the gta3 cars and is good when settin up other browsers..
