chapapote
Do you remember the Downtown District, all right? There is a neighborhood marked on the map as "Altamount", west of Flotsam, and effectively, if you drive there the game says you are in Altamount. The weird thing is that if you drive west of the university the game also says you are in Altamount. What's the point of marking two different zones with the same name? Is this exclusive to the Spanish version?
Fokker
The University is not an area like Altamount, it is just a University that just happens to be in Altamount. It has it's own label because it (as all Universities are) is so big.
chapapote
Not only the university is between the two Altamounts, but also Avalon. Is Avalon part of Altamount too? I know this topic is quite stupid.
Fokker
Avalon is an area of it's own... here: http://www.gouranga.com/images/other/downtownGTA2-tags.jpg (http://www.gouranga.com/images/other/downtownGTA2-tags.jpg) The problem is not the areas, it is the university and it's raised walkways and back alleys that take you all over the South East quarter of the city, slicing through whatever area it is supposed to be. Lantyz
I've checked the navigation and local navigation zones with the Map Editor, and Chapapote is absolutely right: there are two unrelated area's called "Altamount". The "real" Altamount is the mid-South area of Downtown, while the other Altamount is a very narrow strip at the East and North of the University. I think it's an error, and that it should be called "Avalon", like the area right next to it. I've made a map with names here: Edited October 21, 2008 by Lantyz
chapapote
I've discovered a very strange thing (maybe someone else knew it). I've opened the GXT files in order to correct the wrong Altamount (I think it's impossible, the two Altamounts are together), but I've realised that there are some names for Downtown District districts which aren't used such as Romanova (a Zaibatsu territory, I think), Azimuth, Barking (Loony territories) and Kyabetsu (a Yakuza territory). They even have sound for their police reports. Check this video. You can hear at several points the name "Romanova". Lantyz
Indeed, nice find. If you want to correct the second Altamount, you have to use the map editor to rename the navigation zone "m43" (beware: there are more zones with this name) to "m42". You can also enlarge the zone so it will cover the road North of the University.
chapapote
I've managed to put the right name (it's the m43 which is just above the zone called policehq1) and it says Avalon now, but I haven't been able to enlarge it for I can't select the zone (I read somewhere that XP computers like mine could have problems with the map editor), although it's not important since I've done what I wanted, thank you. EDIT: What a strange thing. I've downloaded the GTA 2 Zone Editor and, according to the position in which places it, not only it has somehow reverted to its original name but also it seems that it was a true Altamount, although the false Altamount seems to have been corrected. According to the Zone Editor, the territory we are talking about it's above looniegang and it overlaps the university so that it only says "Avalon" at the north part. The strangest thing is that it says m42 although I hadn't touched it! Edited September 17, 2008 by chapapote
GAME MASTER
Altamount is where you do the mission of stealing 3 taxis from Loonies mission in Level 1 and the crusher will automatically crush the taxi. I doubt you said there are 2 different Altamounts? The territory we are talking about it's above looniegang and it overlaps the university so that it only says "Avalon" at the north part. The strangest thing is that it says m42 although I hadn't touched it! Are you talking about different area name that related to Loonies' territory?
