I don't know what to think about this game. I guess I'll form an opinion only after playing it. Strangely, it didn't really wow me the way it did almost everyone else.

Little article on Rock Paper Shotgun with some gameplay experience (in the form of a conversation) went up a couple days back. My jaw dropped reading it and I am officially sold on this as I trust RPS more than any other game news source to be from the standpoint of true gamers.

Here's the article.

It's supposed to be Q1 2011, but there's still no official announcement yet. After the sh*tstorm the last batch of screens, and the last trailer caused at the official forum, I wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed right back to winter for polishing.

I mean, this doesn't look current gen

I just prepurchased on Steam.

Yeah, it's not gonna be what the first game was. It's gonna be a game of today, for both good and bad. I don't care, it looks positively bad-ass, it's gonna have cyborgs and guns and upgrades and stealth and.. that awesome baroque futurist style. I just know I'm gonna love it despite the inevitable flaws. icon14.gif

Eh, pretty much my thoughts at this stage. Not pre-ordering, but definitely giving it a go.

Hmm...'Tong's Rescue' exclusive mission. So they're holding Tracer hostage, and not just in-game rolleyes.gif

Will you be switching off the highlighting?

Good that they finally made it optional orly.gif

Looks like DXHR is going to come with some product placement:

It was the Australian advertisement and everything, with Shane Warne’s face hidden behind a packet of chickeny goods, and labelled with the Australian price. When I went back again to take a screenshot, it had changed to an advertisement for Adidas sports instead, indicating that whatever server was up and running delivering these ads was already working quite well. We’ve contact the Australian distributors, Namco Bandai, for further clarification on how these in-game ads will work, and will let you know once we receive a response

http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=186482

So a game set in 2027 will carry ads for 2011 products. It's causing quite a stir on the official forums, and Eidos Montreal has yet to respond.

Reports are in that Eidos and the Deus-Ex website have been hacked by a split off group of Anonymous, no reason was given for this attack, but they've stolen the details of over 80,000 people along with some company resume detail and back logs, so yeah, if you've bought stuff from the Eidos Store or the Deus-Ex website, keep an eye on your details.

I'm pretty active on that board, so I found out and have been changing my accounts info since then. I've started a topic in case anyone is active on the other forums (K&L Thief etc)

Real advertisements in the game? That has to be the dumbest idea since the aromatic toilet paper.

I hope it will be really good but for some reason i can't see it living up to the original. I hope it does but i had so much fun with the original DE and so many good memories of it.

There's some facebook unlocks that could be achieved pretty soon. I'll just quote the community manager from the official forums, and if the links don't work I'll clean them up tomorrow.

http://deusex.com/facebook

The gist: Work together to increase Like numbers to the Facebook pages and unlock assets.

My personal take:  I've spent a lot of time spearheading this project. I've procured an immense number of new assets, thanks to the help of many people, and I can't WAIT for them to all be unlocked.

Announcement below:

DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION FANS CHALLENGED TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT VIA FACEBOOK

Facebook Promotion Offers Fans the Chance to Unlock Exclusive Videos, Artwork and Behind-The-Scenes Footage

MAY 13, 2011 – THE INTERNET – Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix are offering Facebook users the opportunity to unlock a slew of exclusive Deus Ex: Human Revolution assets by encouraging other fans and friends to “Like” the official Deus Ex Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/DeusEx.  As more users “Like” the page, over 90 exclusive updates -- including new videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and other artwork -- will be revealed.

Fans can now pre-order Deus Ex: Human Revolution to receive exclusive downloadable bonus content from participating retailers by visiting http://www.DeusEx.com/preorder.

“Deus Ex has one of the most passionate, vocal and dedicated communities in all of video games, so offering a program that rewards that loyalty -- even before the game is released -- is a great way for us to give something back,” said Kyle Stallock, Community Manager, Eidos-Montreal.  “The Facebook community now has significant control over the release schedule for some of our favorite assets.  We have a ton of surprises and unlockables planned, so fans should invite their friends to ‘Like’ the page and start collecting these rewards.”

The new program, which launches today, offers more than 90 individual rewards for Facebook fans, including new wallpapers, screenshots and concept art as well as further details on in-game Augmentations, weapons and the story.

Previously, when the Deus Ex: Human Revolution Facebook page achieved 10,000 Likes, fans were rewarded with an exclusive wallpaper created by Eidos-Montreal Art Designer Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, that recreated the imagery from the highly collectible and super-rare PAX East 2011 tee-shirt.

The Deus Ex: Human Revolution Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/DeusEx) is where fans can keep up-to-date with the latest news, previews, videos and screenshots on the game; engage in discussions with other fans and development team members; and find out about other contests and promotions.  Fans can also visit the official site at www.DeusEx.com where they will find all of the game information and the official forums and join the human revolution at: www.twitter/eidosmontreal .

I hope it will be good. The problem these days is that they focus too much on the graphics and too much on making it console-friendly, and as a result they usually end up with something that would be found at the arcade.

All they need is the graphics of Half Life 2 and the non-linear gameplay and replayability of Deus Ex 1...maybe even further push the story length so that it's even longer and has more alternative pathways.

I'm surprised nobody bumped this to talk about the beta leak of the game. There are videos of leaked beta version on youtube and I have to say the game look amazing. It's Deus Ex alright.

I think this "leak" was actually released on purpose by the developer. It serves as a demo, kinda like Half Life 2 leak did back in the day.

HL2 leaked because some german kid bypassed Valve's security and downloaded the game from their servers.

I didn't phrase that well. What I meant was, the leaked version (if good) will have a positive effect on sales like Half Life 2 case.

If I didn't know it was this Elias Toufexis guy doing the voice of Jensen, I could have sworn that it was Timothy Olyphant.

And now I will never be able to hear it otherwise.

That was a nice tease, but I don't want to watch anymore.
