cold fusion 33
Hi guys, I have a problem, yet again... Well, today I decided to try and fix my PC, and in the process have two hard drives instead of 1. I got one of those IDE cables, one of those that have 1 main male socket which splits into two cables which enable two hard drives to be fitted. So I started it up with both hard drives plugged in and it worked, I could see both hard drives on my computer and it was all ok. But later on I decided to install linux (Pardus 2008), I unplugged the hard drive that had Windows XP installed on it and I put the CD in and started installing it. I got to the install part that asks you what to do with the hard drives and I asked it to install the boot loader, about half way through this it said there was an error with the installation so I rebooted. Fair enough, I thought it was something to do with Pardus, so I got out my Ubuntu CD and tried installing that and the same thing happened. Giving up I plugged my XP HDD back in and tried to start Windows, but it only got to the boot screen (Not even the Windows one, the one where it just says Packard Bell and F2 for BIOS options and F12 to network boot, and even then I couldn't enter either.) So I did a little cable swapping and such and now Windows is running but I only have one HDD visible to the PC. What has happened here? Does my XP install not agree with my failed Linux install? What can I do guys, please help CF33
Svip
Your BIOS sort of controls where the boot goes. I would have recommended you NOT to have removed your other hd before you began, otherwise you wouldn't have f*cked your boot record up. Linux can easily install next to another OS. Your current solution is to reinstall.
cold fusion 33
Ah, I thought I was doing the right thing and I did the complete opposite... Damn. Well, now I think I have an even bigger problem, when I turn the PC on it gets to the BIOS boot screen but the HDD's aren't even running, I can hear that they aren't spinning at all! They're both plugged in and everything so I don't know what's happening. I think that somehow both my PSU and motherboard are failing as it has trouble realizing even my Windows through one IDE cable. I think the PSU is failing as the computer strangely shut down and the computer said something like 47K:50k OUT OF RANGE. Thanks for the help Svip, any more advice?
