I like the sound of polished visuals. I just wonder how polished they mean. a screenshot or 2 would have been nice. Oh well, back to work.

Be nice Dilly, we are supposed to be the more mature gamers.

Rockstar has revealed the first details of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The game was shown off at the Leipzig Games Convention today by PR man Steve Hahnel. He began by promising much improved visuals, saying they'll be "polished well beyond what they were on the 360 and PS3".

New features will include a replay editor. Whenever you're playing the previous 30 seconds of gameplay will be recorded, so at any time you can stop and watch what you just did. You can also edit footage - chop it up, add filters, switch camera angles and so on.

There will also be a montage editor that lets you link together multiple 30-second clips. You'll be able to share the movies you make via the internet and the Rockstar Social Club.

Hahnel also hinted there are plans to add new multiplayer options. Noting there is online play for up to 16 players in the console versions of GTA IV he added, "We're expanding on that" - but didn't offer any further details.

However, Hahnel did say there will be new filters so you can have more control over the type of matches and races you take part in. If you just want to play with pistols, for example, that will possible. The whole idea is to make it easier to find exactly what you're looking for.

The rest of the demo consisted of a playthrough of the Three-Leaf Clover mission seen in the console game. This was played using an Xbox 360 controller, and Hahnel confirmed you'll be able to choose this or the traditional keyboard option in the finished game.

The visuals do indeed look more polished - lighting is more realistic and there's a much higher level of detail on both characters and environments. Movement animations are smoother but could still do with a bit of work; Nico runs down stairs like he's got a wonky ankle. Still, as Hahnel was careful to point out, GTA IV is still "a work in progress" and there's "a lot of polishing and cleaning" to do before the game is released on November 24th.

So basically we are getting nearly everything we wanted plus that little bit more biggrin.gif . This is starting to sound like the best GTA port EVER. I dunno maybe all our bellyaching in the PC thread finally made Rockstar sit up and listen.

As far as improved visuals go, the company said 2560 x 1600 would be the maximum resolution

Take that, console boys.

Look at the graphics!

Oh my god.

If Rockstar pulls this one off, then I would say it is safe to say the delay was just to polish the PC version, and if they clean up the visuals maybe all the whinning here about it being delayed was a bit unfair. I have to imagine it takes awhile to optimize it for the PC. making sure framerates do not suffer and what not.

Awesome news indeed...

Although, still no Specs... But great news none the less...

I have a question about the 30Sec Rec...

Why is it only 30Sec and not 10/30Min or something like that ???

So adding replay (very nice with the editing abilities), increasing the number of players in multiplayer (should be a given), and polishing the game (of course) is in. Hopefully they can manage to get the personal radio station in there. I pretty much expected all of this. I doubt we will get any other added features though (added over console version). Sounds like they are just working on polishing the game now.

If they can do this and in polishing the game, fix the draw distance and give more smoothness/detail than in San Andreas (better frame rates mostly), I will be happy. IMO that would be an improvement for the PC fans. That's good, but R* still has a golden to opportunity to "WOW" us with features or with the look and feel. Doing so would really earn them some points with PC community, and they need that more than anything. We only need to do our part and BUY the game.

i guess they made the game in the first place with a quality level in mind and then had to optimize and remove stuff to make it smooth enough in the consoles. Now they are going to unleash the whole deal of awesomeness devil.gif

If R* gets this port right im gonna be givin away more cookies than anybody can shake a stick at cookie.gifcookie.gifbiggrin.gif

this seems to be going well now. those screenshots look like pc shots even. i hate that they don't say pc screenies - but what the hey - i can't think i have seen them before, and the date on them makes sense. the look all chrisp and happy.

i agree, it does sound like rockstar is paying good attention to this version for pc. i was excited before, but the news today is making me totally want november to roll around.

Yeah, the screens look very good, but I need them in my resolution (1920x1200). Let's really separate the wheat (PCs) from the chaff (console toys).

I remember some time ago before GTA IV was announced on PC some Console Fan Boys cried: "GTA IV can´t be ported to PC cause the Next Gen Consoles have much more Graphical Power than the PC" biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif LMAO

STRIKE! The screens look great! icon14.gif

I wonder in that one scene at that Police Station Niko is wearing a beard and he´s face looks really much more detailed.

Now, now, no need to bash the console gamers on here. I'm sure they will feel stupid enough for having played through it on their vastly inferior toys once all is revealed. This should serve as enough embarrassment to last a lifetime. tounge.gif

You know what this means too, don't you? More whining. So, it's a double-edged sword. We already hear enough whining from them about their own systems. This just adds fuel to the fire.

I wonder if their approach to this port will change their tactics in the future with the series. It will (should) certainly raise more questions and criticism if they continue to release on console first...after showing off how superior the PC is for such a game.

...but also that the game resolution can be set to up to 2560 x 1600

Yep. None of this post-render up-scaling garbage that they had on the console...so that it could output to 1920x1080. We're now talking pure, clear rendering resolution.

So now we realize that all the comments that allegedly came from rockstar as "We have no Plans for PC Version" and "Because of illegal Copies we are concentrating only on the consoles" were just stupid fakes and had nothing to do with Rockstar´s real intensions about the PC Version of GTA IV. smile.gif

I beg my ATI HD3850 card to get this game rolled with everything on highest detail happy.gif
