steve90
Hi there. Ive owned GTA4 since the midnight it came out and have only ever once been able to accept an invite from a friend and play online once. my mate that lives litterally around the corner cannot get into a game with me and vice versa. i can get into a game with people and play happily but cannot accept or have a friend accept invites. i just want to know if i need to change settings on my Netgear router or PS3 or what. No other issues with any other PS3 games. I personally think that this is absolutely outrageous that rockstar could sell a game and people would have to start changing settings on routers and stuff just to play. i cant believe they have made and sold a game to me that doesn't work online. however i just want some advice on what to do about this problem? the only error messages i get is.. "game no longer exists.." one. and thats when my friend or me tries to accept each others invites. both our NAT types are 2 and both have good connections. thank u to anyone who bothered to read all that and for any answers recieved Edited August 19, 2008 by steve90

Anyway, i have the same problem and often times it comes up with "Your Router is too strict" when trying to get into games. I did though have a Link to something that might help, i was on it just yesterday, i will post it up when i can remember or find the link. Ive never had the router too strict message. my mate is on bt homehub. could that be the reason? does anyone know why this happens with gta only or not? why does this not happen with any other game and why wont R* do f*ck all to help? cheers for your reply though mate. steve90
me too i have virgin broadband and on a netgear router. i cant understand why this happens. R* have really failed their customers and i know some people saying its not R* fault that some routers cant cope or whatever but the fact remains that they arent doing f*ck all, havent announced anything and people shouldnt have to change anything to play a game they paid 40 quid for. ridiculous. TwindSkittle
Both you and your friend should try this ( www.portforward.com )is might help. select your router then select Playstation network, then follow their instructions. it's not easy to do but not overly difficult either. But the majority of the issues are Gamefly's servers. Gamefly is the company that "hosts" the games for R*.
Acidhaus
Steve90: Try this link. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=353023. I just recently switched to a Netgear router and it is giving me fits. This was a good thread in the troubleshooting section. At the end of this thread, I go through a whole step by step of what I had to do to get a lot of my issues fixed this last weekend. Hopefully this helps. MC Devvo
It's DEFINETELY your router. I had the same problem on my Xbox with my Linksys router and I read these forums about fixing the problem and everything is now 100% better and never fail to get in a game or have anybody join mine. You just need to open certain ports. And by the way your NAT doesn't have to be set as open...mines on moderate and everything is fantastic with every game I play online whilst I maintain security to my network. Celtic_Assasinz
It's most likely your friends connection. BT Home hub has some issues with online games, particularly PS3 and 360. My friend has trouble getting online the same games as me at times. We've found it's better if he hosts a game. Usually he'd get dc'd during the game or straight after joining. But when he hosts it seems alright. I get the "game no longer in session" message now and again, but keep trying and it eventually works. It means your friend needs to send an invite after each unsuccessful attempt.
steve90
cheers to all that have replied so far and im looking into doing something with my router. eltic_Assasinzand are you saying that if me and my mate just keep sending and accepting invites it would eventually work? cheers. If it's the message that says something like "multiplayer game no longer exists" then yeah it will eventually work. I've had it happen to be numerous times when I know that the game is infact in existance. Most of the times I've perstistantly kept trying and eventually got into the game. I probably wouldn;t try 5 times in a row. Usually I give it 3 attempts. Try hosting your own game and inviting your friend, if that doesnt work then get him to host a game and invite you. Not sure if you know how to host a game or not, but just incase you don't. Go to custom match, select the game type you want. Then select at least 1 private slot. If you want randoms to join then best to select only 1 private slot. This will make you the host and you can select what settings you want in the game. Celtic_Assasinz
It should of been sorted when R* realeased the patch well it did for me. That patch only really sorted out their social club stats. More problems arised after that patch, especially the mic cutting out problem.
