There's no such thing as a 15 foot CRT, you Lie like a Rug! nervous.giftounge2.gif

I've seen a number of DVI splitters, so I suspect they'd work on any card so equipped. The thing that I had a problem with was DVI D and DVI I, or the Interlace version/analogue. I was just getting into that type of feature and the sales people weren't versed enough to help me get a handle on it.

leik oh em jeez!

the splitter will work but the two monitors connected to it will be picked up as one.

the 9600gt will do better for physics than the ageia card, and it's cheaper.

Two things:

- Aegia PhsyX isn't utilized that much, dedicating a whole GPU to it is a waste.

- NVIDIAs latest drivers (177.83) fully enable PhsyX on 8800 and above cards, so your two SLI'd GTs will be able to handle all the physics without breaking a sweat. Don't waste your money.

That's just plain retarded, but here's the thing, a Gaming Platform also running HDTV tuning and HDD recording, with Win OFFICE on the side, multitasking away.

From Max PC magazine, physics cards may have little use now, but even these guys speculate they could play a role in future apps. It's a product decidedly ahead of it's time, again, software is not in place to exploit it in a worthwhile manner.

I'll total $360 USD for the system I'm building come christmas.

SLI'ed 8800GT XXX's - $130 each

9600GT for PhysX - $100

(plus prices will drop by that time)

But then I'll probably get two Matrox G400's for extra monitors...

Wait, you're going to run two 8800GT's AND a 9600GT? I'm 99% sure that it won't work. Also, when in SLI mode, you can't run more than one monitor. The only way that I know of that will work with more than one monitor is if you buy an ATI graphics card to run the extra monitors. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Maxtron an AGP-only card?

The power consumption of that system would be absolutely astonishing with five graphics cards.

Chop out the 9600 and the Maxtrons and get a second ATI graphics card if you want to run SLI and have dual monitors. Or, just disable and enable SLI to run either two graphics cards or two monitors.

Windows doesn't support more than 4 monitors as well.

Let's not forget the heat this system will generate as well. I hope you are planning on water cooling?

not really, although there will be two 80mm fans onthe side of the case right over the expansion slots.

Are you like me and tend to run your computer without part of the enclosure on? I do that A LOT, in fact, I think it certainly helps keep air circulating while cutting down on dust getting trapped!

@Slam: always run with the sides on. For one thing it helps protect your parts physically (static electricity, should you happen to accidentally drop liquid on the PC it just makes the case sticky instead of the parts inside), apart from that, cases are designed for maximum airflow with all the panels intact. You're only making your parts hotter than they need to be.

@Leik: I give up. Waste $100 on your 9600 that won't be used and will just waste power. I'm just going to laugh when your system keeps overheating because of your stubbornness. I can only imagine how hot your Soundblaster will get between your graphics cards.

Trust me, I am not tampering or leaving the exposed case sides at risk. I've done it ever since I keep swapping RAM, CPUs, DRIVES, all the things one can do easily... when you monkey with as many computers as I do, cases REALLY get in the way, and a few of these are top and sides as one piece!

I also have cases where EACH panel comes off, and non seem to stay on without the others, it's always a laugh at the engineering ideas these cases go through!

The one 9600 won't be doing anything most of the time, and the two g400's are old POS cards that usually won't even have anything connected to them.

And if it does over heat I can always put one of the matrox's in another PC and sell the 9600 on ebay.

@King: any idea why the 177.XX series graphics drivers aren't available on Nvidia's site? The latest I see is the 175.19 that I'm running. Are the 177's beta or something?

Well, depending on the age of the Matrox cards, one could decide to call them POS, but as I said, in the day, they were the makers of multi display cards vs everyone else, though you see various outputs supported to. I paid for VGA to TV hardware when I started, now it's lost or sits in storage, no market for that old gear, now that was a waste!

177's are only "officially" out for the GTX 200 series.

EVGA.com supplies 177 drivers for my 8800GT as well as guru3d and other sites.

I reverted back to 175.xx because the 177 drivers gave me DPC latency issues.

EDIT: Wait I take it back my friend told me as of August 5th 8-series (G80 and up) all have official PhysX support and they have released WHQL drivers (177.83) which can be downloaded here.

I shall try the new drivers out on my 8800GT and hope they don't cause DPC latency issues like the "betas" did.

EDIT2: Just installed 177.83 drivers and I am pleased to report no DPC latency problems with these drivers! Yay!
