Doofey
My dad, my brother and I have started a snow plowing company. We just registered the business as an LLC. And my dad wanted me to create a logo. So this is what I came up with: [...] Got what I need atm. I really don't like the truck pushing the snow in the center S, but my brother likes it. So anyway to improve that? If not, I might just take it out. Please, keep this in mind when reviewing. The logo has been approved by my dad already, but if I can improve on it, then good. Also, this logo is gonna be used on everything, company letterheads, business cards, the equipment, apparel. I mean everything we can throw this on, it will be on. So remember that whatever you suggest has to work with all those things without changing it for certain things for the most part. This is really important.... The logo is trademarked, please don't post it anywhere. Don't even save it on your computer. Obviously cache is an exception, but thats it. Once I get some reviews and improvements, I'm going to remove the logo, hopefully before google caches it. Mainly cause someone in a city near us started a business with the same name, even though they can't use it since we already registered the name. Not sure what we are gonna do about that yet. I don't want them to find it and try to use it. Otherwise its gonna be a long hell in court. Thanks guys. Edited August 20, 2008 by Doofey
GentlemanSquid
why dont you make a vector truck scooping up the logo
Doofey
Eh, didn't think about it really. lol Haven't really worked with vector graphics so much, not really sure I could get it right for now. I'm seriously thinking that the truck is just getting to detailed for a logo. What would be better, trying a vector truck or just scrapping that whole idea completely? Trows
If you want to stick with the 'triple S' theme, i'd suggest keeping the logo more simple and sleek. It's necessary to use colours that flow well with eachother, otherwise the end result just looks cheap. Something I quickly knocked up. Since you are creating a logo for mass production, it would be best if you created it using vector elements. No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting. Doofey
What advantage does using vector elements have for mass production? I'm not seeing any advantage. And what I'm looking is to improve whats there, not change it entirely. Its already approved so I can only improve on the base. The truck wasn't there when it went through approval, so that can go entirely. The colors flow well except for the truck obviously, I threw it in to fast. But I believe for white backgrounds, it'll have to contrast more. Such as print or white vehicles. I can't do anything with that until we figure out what color trucks we are gonna have when we establish a fleet. So for now thats not important. I appreciate the ideas and apologize for shooting them down after asking for it, lol. But I don't think I was clear enough in that the overall design can't change. GentlemanSquid
What advantage does using vector elements have for mass production vector can change in size with out losing quality, which is what most companies use. so if you wanted to put a non-vector image on a truck it would be blurry but for a vector image there would be no loss in quality example from wikipedia
Doofey
Actually good point, early in the morning, wasn't thinking. The oval should still be vector. If I remember right, I rasterized the oval to cutout the SSS which I shouldn't have. The full name has not been rasterized nor the phone number. With the snow, even being rasterized, I just use a "free transform" method that gets rid of loss of quality issues. Basically, its just doing free transform many times will slowly making the layer larger. If it gets to the point where it is producing loss of quality, I can just take the original and make paths out of the snow. Which I should probably do anyways. So now that I think about it, I am using vector graphics, lol. See what happens when you stay up all night?

Doofey
Ok, scrapped the truck. I just couldn't get it to work and really didn't want to. Also, everything is vector based. So no matter what I resize it to, it looks fantastic. As well all of your ideas and help has helped out very much and I appreciate it. Let me tweak it a little more, get the colors just right and I'll post the final image for you guys. Again, thank you very much.
