Seven Reasons Why the New iPhone Sucks

The app store is by far the coolest thing to ever happen to the mobile phone business. Numbers have been released, and coders are making an upwards of 5 grand a day selling apps on there. The total sales numbers for the first month alone were 30 million. That is going to draw some big attention, no doubt. I can't wait to see what more professional developers come up with in the future, with bigger budgets and a lot more time to work with. Most of the sh*t on there now was thrown together in a couple of weeks, and a lot of it rocks hard.

The iPhone is also a really cool gaming platform. Nobody has released anything as of yet that really pushes it, but there are a ton of neat little games on the app store that are currently wasting a lot of my time at work, most of which are free. John Carmack, founder of iD games, has been quoted as saying "(The iPhone is) more powerful than a Nintendo DS and PSP combined." in terms of specs. Read about it here.

Sure, the phone has it's drawbacks, but there is currently nothing on the market even close to it in terms of a true mobile development platform. Weather you like it or not, Apple raised the bar and made everyone copy them with the iPhone last year. This year they took the bar and smashed everyone else in the face with it.

To most of the f*ckwits in this topic bashing the iPhone; odds are you know nothing about the phone, and you probably haven't used one. To the rest who have legitimately spent time with one and found it unsatisfactory; to each his own. I personally don't own one, I have an iPod touch. The only thing holding me back from getting the iPhone, though, is that AT&T isn't very good in my city. That will be changing soon, however, and when it does, I will be ditching my Verizon phone and my iPod touch for an iPhone.

And you're just another Macfag icon14.gif

Is one of the reasons cause you don't have one?

I don't have one either but I don't understand the hate.

Boo f*cking hoo its made by Apple. So f*ck.

You should all be happy that a product has been released that breathes new life into an ageing market. All of a sudden all the major manufacturers are shouting about their life changing tech and flooding money into research for new user interfaces and features.

I think some of you would deny a cure for cancer if Apple discovered it.

it's nothing do with with apple (for me) but rather how everyone hypes it up and calls it "the jesus phone" when the only innovative feature is a touch screen. Sh*t, my girlfriend's cheesy razor has more features, and it's three years old.

"iphone: big phones for little dicks"

Have you ever used one?

Its not "just a touch screen". Sounds pretty fanboy but seriously it is fantastic to use.

Plus I highly doubt your girlfriend's RAZR has more features since it had none to begin with. ;p

Good point that actually, this iPhone stuff is no bigger than the RAZR launch and the hype for that piece of crap.

I do agree with you Jay, the iPhone is pretty amazing, and many of you people in this thread are being so anti-Apple that if I said Steve Jobs, you would say anti-christ. Name a phone that can only play iTunes music, full movies, get directions, search the web, have tons of games, and still manages to be a phone. I realize that Apple sometimes get's products out to early, with too little of innovation in a new product, but that's how Apple sells. Much like how Microsoft can release a new OS, that is sh*tty at launch, and they make you wait half a year for a patch to fix it, but sometimes that doesn't even work.

Uhh...

The instinct plays MP3s, you can put mp4 videos on there, there is a microSD slot for expandable memory, it does real-time turn-by-turn directions, it has good web capabilities, it supports PAM, has a bunch of games, and has amazing voice quality. Plus, it doesn't use AT&T.

So: Samsung Instinct.

Are you mad at him because he's a "macfag" or because he's got your number?

My final thought on the Iphone is that most of the things I like about it are in the Ipod touch. Despite my previous statement, the camera is the only thing the Iphone, in my mind, has over the Ipod.

What the hell is it these days with the arguments over brand-names? It's happening with consoles, clothing, internet browsers and even f*cking phones. If you hate the iPhone, then don't get one and shut the hell up. If you love it, get one and shut the hell up. The same goes for anything you acquire/choose not to acquire.

I hate the term 'fanboyism', but it is an irritating enough phrase to describe this irritating behaviour. If the lives of members of Generation Y are so f*cking devoid of meaning that outright wars have to be declared based on which products you buy, then you may as well stick a gun in your mouths.

I wouldn't say mad, but to answer your question, the former.

Although the iPhone is not my type of handset ( I'm more of a samsung INNOV8/nokia n95 type of guy) I do agree with Lesfleanut here. Being an avid Symbian fan, I hate having to look all over the internet for the thousands over thousands of applications available there, just to find what I want. It's great having every single application under one roof. What's bad about apple's strategy is that they've locked the OS tight, and have very strict rules of approving an app. the symbian is better in this regard as it pretty much lets you do whatever you want with the handset.

However I hate to burst your bubble all you iphone haters. the Iphone/ipod touch have truly been revolutionary. Apple has shown the world that these handsets can be very eye-pleasing and still be fast at the same time. The interface is what truly makes it a gem. That's what people buy these handsets for. After Apple came out with the whole springboard type interface, with all it's transitions and eye candy, other manufacturers tried to copy it by adding their own interfaces to the handsets. Look at nokia. Ever since iphone became a hit on the market, They added a feature pack 2 to symbian enabled phones, which made their phones more iphone-like with regards to the interface (case in point: Nokia N78).

A lot of other manufacturers tried to copy the iphone physically and software-wise, but none even come close. They're either too sluggish, crappy interfaces , crappy touch sensitivity, not enough features or all of the mentioned.

The experience you get with these clones are not as pleasing as with the iphone.

You should really stop bashing the iphone, as it's great in it's own right. Before this was out, no other interface on earth was as pleasing as it is now thanks to the iphone which open the competitions eyes.

that being said.. Where's my Samsung INNOV8?

1. Pleasing is subjective.

2. I don't think we're bashing the iPhone as much as we're bashing Apple.

Agreed with makeshyft here, 100%.

As for myself, I ordered the iPhone a few days ago and I'm supposed to go pick it up sometime tomorrow. Hell, aside from my iPod I've never owned an Apple product, so it's not like I'm a loyalist to any brand.

Personally, my reasoning for buy one was that I just wanted a high-quality phone for college. Never mind the price, I like having an all-in-one device that can get sh*t done, fast.

Fair enough, but Apple was the first to make the phone, so there is no surprise there is something better. For everything good, there is always something better. With the 3G, it was mostly faster internet, that's about it. I do, however, think that it's a bit cheaper to go and buy a simple cellphone, and then get an iTouch. Because the iTouch is mostly an iPhone without the phone, and that is why I want one. I can get a cheap cellphone, but get a nice iTouch and I will be set.

That is exactly what I have, a cheap cell phone and an ipod touch. What really pisses me off is 1) I have to carry around these two devices everywhere, and one of my pet peeves is having sh*t in my pockets. 2) It sucks when I'm somewhere without wifi and I want to use my ipod to do something that requires internet.

No one dictates my opinion on anything but me. Care to quote me?
