Console Gamers seeing the Light?

Just as there are pc gamers who end up selling everything to go buying a console for a specific game.

I am wondering Who owns a PlayStation 3 and or xbox 360 Who are going to sell their console to buy

a pc. Or have already. Just to play GtaIV On pc.

No I don't want to buy your console. (So please do not advertise or request Whispers)

I am wondering if you know what computer parts and components you are hoping make the cut

as you purchase your GAMING MACHINE.

Do you intend to play on your current crt/ or flat lcd monitor?Do you have a huge flat screen plasma high def Tv that you are accustomed to and hoping your new GAMING MACHINE

and new video card and push that ? Will your current Video Card make the cut? All or any of your parts?

There will be no flaming you in this thread. In fact I might even help you with identifying good parts.

If not me, there should be a few hundred in here to help you chose the right memory/hard drive/video card/motherboard /processor/cooling system for your new found GAMING MACHINE..

ps. If the mods lock this, Please consider unlocking this once they see what screen shots and videos look like on pc.

Well, I never had a PS3 or Xbox 360 in the first place, and actually started thinking of upgrading a few days BEFORE the announcement of GTAIV PC version. So, obviously my computer was giving me a little thankyou.

I have a feeling my 7300LE 128MB wont cut the chase, so thats going to be sold or given to my family, I'll either get a 8600GTS 1GB DDR2 (or 256MB DDR3). Or even a lower end 8800GT. The problem with having a Dell (As I do) is the puny power supply, so my 250Watt is going and being replaced with some around 450W-550W.

It's been a long time since I wanted a new monitor, I'll upgrade my 15LCD to a 19" Widescreen LCD.

Other than that, I think my hardware makes the grade, I have been slowly upgrading since I bought the machine (Upgraded from 1GB RAM to 2GB last year).

I am no console gamer. Anyhow, I have a CRT 19" monitor, which can go really high in terms of resolution. I never saw a reason to switch to an LCD or something of a larger size.

I switched from 18" to 22", the difference is amazing. In size. I dunno what kind of resolution your screen can pull off, but mine maxes out at 1680x1050. $400 it cost me.

I own a PS3 (soon to own 360), and I am waiting to upgrade, as it will be my big project for next year. I know none of my parts will make the cut, but at the moment I am enjoying my new 19'' LCD monitor, way better then that oversized monster of a screen I had from 1995. I am looking forward to having a PC that can handle this game, but I am afraid it won't come for awhile. So for now, I am stuck with the PS3 version, which I can't play because my PS3 is being fixed.

It actually can go all the way up to 2048x1536, but the refresh rate would be 60. I play at 1600x1200 at a refresh rate of 78 for all of my games except Crysis. That is the best advantage for CRTs, any resolution you pick would not be a downscale / upscale from a fixed native resolution.

The down side to having a crt, is just the simple fact that you have to measure the dome shape when you are measuring the size of the screen area.

with an lcd it's a flat surface. meaning a 17" lcd is about the same as a 20" crt.

and a 20" lcd similar to a 25" crt.

picture kicking the glass out of a crt and measuring the "actual view area" from plastic edge to plastic edge.

but the colors and shade on a low cost crt far exceed the abilities of the colors and shade of lcd or plasma.

on another note. refresh rate is what a crt has. response rate is what lcd has. crt is instant, but only happens

between flickers. Lcd is slightly behind due to the fact that it actually builds the image then drops it in thin layer strips.

If you see in my "rig" thread i have an lcd. i gave away my 25" crt , simply because it ate through all of my video cards.

to much work. and it weighed a ton. If i was just doing drafting or video conversion or cgi of any sort, I would have stayed with crt

simply because it looks better, but I am a gamer, and i can't keep buying video cards to push that Goliath.

plus the desk area of my new desk is smaller and the desk is cheaper, i don't need it bending in the middle. and it gives my cat some room to lay and play "swat the mouse hand" with his tail while i game.

You dont measure a CRT screen that way...

Its measured on the glass surface one corner to the opposing diagonal corner, not the plastic crap holding the monitor together... smile.gif...

No way. The way you measure a CRT size is by measuring the viewable area. A 25" CRT would most likely be around 24.1" viewable area. Viewable area can be directly compared to LCD size. It can in no way be only 20". That is a huge exaggeration. Similarly, my 19" is 18.4" of viewable area. I measured it myself.

Um I know.

as I said, you have to also measure the shape of the glass.

Because the glass is dome shaped..........

You know what

I am not going to deep in this, because it's not the topic.

Why would you play a game on the pc when you can have the ease of a 360. its so easy to use a child could do it. you just pop the game in and it start. no fuss with installing and finding the latest driver. Be safe, be simple, be 360!

Warning: we are not reasonable for any rrod, disk read errors, frame lose or overpriced accessories. see back of product for deatals.

I got a laugh out of that.

I do feel that is one of the reason's consoles sell more as they are easier to use, and make sure that you don't need anything upgraded, or have to worry about viruses, or other system problems. Sure the consoles aren't as superior to the PC's, but it is a hell of a lot easier for a kid to play on a 360 (pop in disk, grab controller, play, now worries), as compared to a PC where you have to worry about your graphics card not being able to play it, configuring settings, and worrying about drivers, and other criteria.

PC's are a bit harder to use for gaming, but they offer much better results, and other good things (internet, IM, 500GB HDD's, the ability to update it). As opposed to the console where it is just pop in the disc, and you are set. Atleast, that is what I went through with Console to PC gaming.

Selling a used 360 would barely net enough money for one high quality PC component. This whole thread feels like flame-bait on first glance.

And I use my 24" BenQ LCD for both console and PC gaming. I used to use my crappy 17" CRT for both, but the contrast on this LCD is superb... not to mention the size. Too bad I didn't have more cash to spend on a non TN panel.

I'm a huge fan of simstyle games and tycoon style games, and i feel that those games excel on PCs, as do RTS. I've just never been able to justify the cost of a great gaming PC, and having to keep up with technology. But i do concede to the fact that games look phenomenal on high end PCs. And you can't do much, if anything, in terms of mods for a console game.

If you wanna make the move to PC gaming then it would have to be for some worthy games like Crysis, or the PC version of FarCry2

Or if you think your a patient kinda guy, then try modding the GTA games (I've changed every car in GTASA to real cars!!)

PC Gaming is brilliant... Once you know what you are doing...

With Consoles, its all about simplicity

With PCs, Its all about Hardcore Gaming for the Ultimate Gaming Enthusiasts!!

I agree, it is very confusing at first. Trying to figure out what files you need to mod, you will need some help, whether from a forum or a guide. I started modding GTA VC about a year ago, and now I am modding every game I have, building my own PC (thanks to GTAF), and I have actually increased my console skills thanks to PC's.

The hardest part of the game when it comes to pc gaming, is the graphics.

Games are actually "crappied" down when they are new releases for a console

that is older than a year. But the pc version is not. The pc version is left at full

res and system requirements.

Yes you can can crappy the settings . By changing system settings in teh game's options

or you can monster your machine. with buying new stuff.

It's not hard, when you have a support group like the forums here. lol

Just gets costly sometimes.

Um, no. They look better, They don't have the blur on.

But drawing distance is still a bit wacky sometimes.

What the FUKC are you talking about? with teh sh*tty exception of GTA3 (being the first console-PC port) the games keep looking WAY better than teh console counterparts.

Get some god damned glasses, guy.

Back to the subject - I'm cure the consolers have no regret. If someone only has a console then they're likely not geeky enough or not interested in a gaming PC, and if the have BOTH a consoel and a PC they can afford another copy.
