I'm sorry, I just had to post this ridiculous article I saw on my Yahoo homepage. Who sues the goddamn Pope, honestly? And by a group of people claiming to be the heirs of....Just read.

August 17, 2008

A group of people claiming to be the heirs of the legendary Knights Templar are suing Pope Benedict XVI, seeking more than $150 billion for assets seized by the Catholic Church seven centuries ago.

They also want to restore the order's good name. Founded in 1119, the Knights Templar was a secretive order of Christian warriors who protected pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem during the Crusades. They fell out of favor years later, and members were accused of denying Christ, worshipping the devil and practicing sodomy. Many Templars were tortured and burned at the stake.

In 1307, Pope Clement V accused the order of heresy and officially dissolved it.

Fiona Govan, who wrote about the lawsuit for London's Daily Telegraph, tells host Andrea Seabrook the order is believed to have gone underground and continued to practice, but that there is no firm, historical evidence to support it.

Last fall, the Vatican published secret documents about the trial of the Templars in a book called Processus Contra Templarios, Latin for "Trial Against the Templars." The volume included a parchment apparently showing that, contrary to historic belief, Clement had absolved the order of heresy.

Now, a group called the Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ has filed suit in a Spanish court, asking for an apology from the pope and recognition that land and property worth about $150 billion today was seized from the Templars.

The Vatican will never reimburse the group, Govan says, because its members cannot prove that they are descendants of the Knights Templar.

She calls the claim "ludicrous" and says Spanish papers have suggested the issue is something for psychiatrists to decide rather than historians.

An apology from the Pope? Now that's classy.

Haha that's never going to happen. If it did, then everyone else the Vatican owes apologies and land too would want a piece of the pie. It would be a logistical nightmare

Anyways, not going to happen.

What right do they have to sue the Church? The Templars were found guilty of various crimes, there were confessions and, by the laws of the day, they were killed.

The families have no right to do this.

tommy vs. claude

If the Catholic Church had to pay 1$ for every thing they did wrong, they would be bankrupt. Bankrupt I say!

This is just like the lady who sued McDonalds after she spilled hot coffee on herself. Only in America! Only in the Vatican!

Yeah, the Crusades, that whole Inquisistion thing, digging up Pope Formosus and putting the corpse on trial.

There's been a lot of stupidity. But you cannot hold the current regime responsible for the old sins. It's like a black fellow in the 21st Century seeking money from a white family whose ancestors enslaved his.

Perhaps not the same thing but it's in the same ballpark. Using old wounds to further your own greedy ends.

While I totally agree with you there man, the thing is who the f*ck would even believe they are the familes of some historical figures killed almost 700 years ago?

They better off claiming they are the decendants of Jesus Christ's cousins and sue for being the true leaders of Christianity. lol.gif

That's retarded suing Mickey D's for that I could only imagine how that turned out?

Entering Court room:

Marshall: Please! Rise! court in session.

Judge: Please! be seated!

Defendant: Your honor exhibit #1 clearly warns the customer on the label.

Plaintiff: Ah!... hum... Ah!...crap!

Someone yells out....." It's not her fault she can't read?"

Judge: Dismisses case

Ronald McDonald dude does a guest appearance and moonwalks away with exhibit #1

Judge: Turns around and gives him the thumbs up.

The End

OT: They can't suit the Catholic church it is God's home and they will burn in hell for eternity if they try!

To be fair, at the time, the coffee McDonalds served wasn't hot, it was scalding. So much so that even drinking it would cause serious burns. She won because she was injured by coffee heated beyond reasonable limits due to negligence.

Not to say she deserved the amount of money she received, but there's no reason for coffee to be as hot as it was.

On April 22, 2005, police in Las Vegas took Anna Ayala into custody and made charges against her in connection with the finger in the chili.

Ayala protested her innocence but the mystery remained as to where the finger came from.

Then on 5/13/05 San Jose police announced that the finger was that of an acquaintance of Ayala's husband and had been lost in an industrial accident in December, 2004.

Then in September, 2005 both Ayala and her husband, Jaime Placencia, pleaded guilty to conspiring to file a false claim and attempted grand theft.

Wendy's says it has lost $2.5 million in sales and dozens of employees lost their jobs because of the hoax.

Yup! sure was and Wendy lost alot of business cause of it.

Got fingered

How can they even think they will win the case several centuries old. The entire social and political structure was different. Not to mention the laws and whatnot. This is pretty interesting. Idiocy on entirely new level.

Unlikely though it may be, they deserve points for effort. I mean, when was the last time someone dared to take on the Church like this? I expect a Church-funded smear campaign within the next few days.

The Roman Catholic church has brought nothing, but bloodshed to this world.

All crowns corrupt. A man says "I am Gods primary agent on Earth" and sooner or later you get a bloodthirsty loon in charge who takes it upon himself to abuse his authority.

The problem is that it's not just the inclusion of religion into political power that causes this kind of behaviour. Many secular political offices breed their own petty little tyrants

That doesn't mean that the office itself should be destroyed, because it can still be capable of doing good in the world, but merely that the inevitable change of regime can bring about a lot of trouble.

Good Pope, Bad Pope, Good Pope, Bad Pope, Good Pope, Bad Pope. Humans by nature are unpredictable and so it's easy for one bad apple to spoil the bunch.

I found the hypocrisy of the Pope rather funny when he said a few years ago, that he condemns the religion of Islam because Mohammed spread his religion with the sword.

I know you're a defender of your faith but you must admit that a lot of sh*t has been carried out by the Catholic church.

Well all I was saying that the Catholic Church is DIRECTLY responsible for the deaths of millions... also they have seized countless properties, wealth and possessions that are not theirs. They also tell their followers that contraception is bad which spreads STDs.

They have killed, tortured, murdered and massacred many people. For that reason I think this thread should be closed as it is as bad as having a thread with the topic of satanism.

Religion is only there so people have something to believe in... and it should stay just that, as soon as money is involved or as soon as people are being told what to do, it all goes tits-up.

Of course I'll admit it. I'm Protestant, I have no loyalty to the Pope. I don't like to throw the word around but I find several Catholic practices and ideas to be heretical. The house is rotten but the inhabitants are good people mostly.

All I'm saying is that almost every political or reigious construct has the opportunity to be abused.

Alll we can hope is that people learn from their mistakes. Why, even my own chosen branch of Christianity has its fanatics. The KKK, those sickos who shoot up abortion, too many to name.

You cannot repay the dead but you can attempt to ensure that no more lives are lost.
