Omega 7139
Well, I just completed the game, and I have several things I want to discuss. I should say that I chose to kill Darko and go for the deal. As for Darko, I had expected that I would let him go, because I was trying to play Niko as a merciful character. After watching Darko explain himself, however, I couldn't really imagine letting him live. He showed no remorse for betraying his comrades. If he had apologized and begged for forgiveness, I would have let him go. But he only laughed at Niko. I don't understand why some people would let him live, I'd like to hear why some of you did it. As for Dmitri, I chose Deal. This decision felt a little odd to me. Roman seemed to stress that working with Dmitri was the obvious choice because of the money. It would have seemed more natural if he stressed that revenge didn't make Niko feel better about Darko, so it wouldn't make Niko feel better about Dmitri. He did mention this, but he didn't stress it as much as the money. Secondly, Kate was very upset that I chose Deal. She was mad because I sacrificed my principals for money. I don't think she would have been mad, though, if she knew that the alternative to working with Dmitri was KILLING him. She's against Niko's violent lifestyle, after all. So, to sum up, I killed Darko because he showed no remorse for what he did, and I chose Deal because I didn't want to repeat the mistake of killing Darko (since it didn't help Niko feel better). The ending felt very weird for me. Kate shouldn't have been mad at me since I did the 'right' thing by not killing Dmitri. But the game made it seem like I worked with Dmitri for money. In my mind, I worked with him so that I would not commit revenge again.
GTAIV_Gangsta
The first time I completed the game I choose to kill Darko for the same reasons you did he seamed like a worthless peice of sh*t But I choose the revenge how ever because Dimitri annoyed the hell out of me through the game so I wanted to kill him. But I played through the game again to see what would have happened and I got to the part with Darko and I let him live to see what happen but soon as he started to run away I shot him lol so I had to reload the game and let him live. Then I choose the Deal to see how the mission was and I didn't understand Kate either like you said she don't like you killing but then again she don't want you working for him either, but it doesn't matter she don't out hahah that's what Kiki and Alex are for
Erados
I did it the exact way you did the first time, and hated my decisions and restarted the entire game just to let Darko live and kill Dmitri outright. Kate is useless. At least Roman offers free taxi services. And he's fun to kill.
Omega 7139
This article really goes into depth about the choice between Roman or Kate. http://www.destructoid.com/deconstructing-...ing-84806.phtml He doesn't care to explain, though, why Kate supports a murder, something completely out of her character. But then again, she didn't know that Niko would either work with Dmitri or KILL him. But then again, why didn't Niko tell her this? *Sight* The ending confuses me. Und3r5c0r3
I was also very merciful throughout the game. I can't remember executing anyone that I had a choice on. But at the end of the game, when I was face to face with the real scumbags, I soon found myself forgetting the meaning of the word "mercy" and I ended up executing every character I had the chance to execute towards the very end of the game. So I killed Darko without thought, and I enjoyed killing Dimitri too much (I hated the cocky smirk on his face in the beginning of the game when he betrayed Niko). Although I wish we had some control over Niko's emotions lol. When I killed Darko, Niko kept talking about how he didn't feel any better, and Darko called Niko a hypocrite etc. Well, if I controlled Niko's thoughts and emotions, I would have reasoned that the people that Niko kill, would also kill Niko if they were offered wad of cash. So the things Niko does aren't as... what's the word... lame? as what Darko did.
FiliGTAFan
I decided to let Darko live because he explained that if Niko killed him then he would be a hypocrite and I decided to let him run. And I thought that I should get revenge because Dmitri really deserved it! After trying out both endings I thought that Revenge was better because Kate doesn't actually do anything for you and she leaves you either way, Roman was better and helped Niko move in. And I have to say that the Deal ending had much more climax than the Revange one.
SentinelXS
1st time thru the game i killed a lot of the ppl i had the choice 2 execute...but i tend to backup my games by haveing a second save right before major events just in case....when i listened to Darko i felt that killing him would do no good if i was actually Niko....i have been in that position in reality...not killing someone but have wanted something sooo much that when u get it u arent really any happier or fee any more complete i killed Darko listened to what Niko and Roman had to say in the car and immediately restarted from my alternate save prior to going after darko....so i let him go...he seemed like a waste and w/ his attitude he probably wont last long in the city before he is beaten...stabbed...or killed by someone else anyway sooo...thats that and as far as the neding...same thing i made a second save and actually kept both endings and played them out individualy for a short time after each final mission to see which fictional reality i liked better....i decided that a world w/ Roman is better than a world w/o and ultimately in choosing revenge Niko still ends up wealthy and w/ the deal you lose roman AND kate...seemed pretty obvious to me and im happy w/ my decision 2nd time thru the game i let basically everyone go and ended up meeting up with a few of them again as random friend missions that were kinda cool...and 2nd time i didnt even think about the Darko choice i let him go like before and chose revenge....i was sort of in a hurry the 1st time thru and think i got a lot more out of my 2nd run thru -XS
Kyle17
On my first run, I spared everyone I could, even Darko. However, it took me ten minutes to choose to spare him. I think it was the right choice, that & I was trying to make Niko as humane as possible. As for the revenge or deal thing, I chose revenge because Dimitri pissed me off the entire game. That & I didn't want Roman to die, he's too funny to let die.
